The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Badagry Command, confirmed the incident, attributing the crash to excessive speeding. The accident, involving a Lexus car with no registration number, occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Unit Commander Mr. Williams Manga stated that the command received a distress call at 8:40 p.m. and responded promptly. “Upon arrival, we discovered it was a lone accident. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding, resulting in his death, while the second occupant sustained multiple fractures and internal injuries,” Manga explained.
Efforts to transport the deceased to the hospital, however, were disrupted by family members and local youths who blocked the expressway, insisting the body should not be taken to the mortuary.
“They became violent, preventing our team from performing its duties. To avoid further escalation, our officers had to withdraw,” Manga said, urging the public to cooperate with emergency responders during such incidents.
The injured passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the wrecked car was eventually removed from the scene.
The FRSC reiterated the need for caution and adherence to speed limits to prevent such tragedies on the road.
