Wikipedia, the world largest encyclopedia in human history was launched on January 15, 2015 with a vision to create a digital encyclopedia which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.

The idea that people around the world would collaborate to build an encyclopedia seemed unbelievable but today, Wikipedia has grown to more than 35 million articles in hundreds of languages, used by millions of people across the globe. It has grown rapidly into one of the largest reference websites, attracting 374 million unique visitors monthly as of September 2015. There are over 70,000 active contributors working on more than 38,000,000 articles in 290 languages.

The founder Jimmy Wales recently told the BBC that Wikipedia had a difficult birth. "The first version of Wikipedia was called Nupedia," he said. "It was very top-down, very structured. I beat my head against the wall for two years, I knew the system was too complicated, but I didn't want to fail."

To ensure that Nigeria-related topics are covered on Wikipedia, one amazing editor of Wikipedia, Olatunde Isaac has since been coordinating Wikipedia programs in Nigeria. He co-founded the Wikimedia Foundation's affiliate in Nigeria and he is the Manager of Wikipedia Education Program in Nigeria.

He is an outreach coordinator of the Wikipedia Library who established the Yoruba Language Wikipedia branch of the library on 12 January 2016. As Education Manager, he had organized several seminars and workshop to recruit editors from Nigeria. In 2015, he served as member of Individual Engagement Grant Committee, a committee under the
Wikimedia Foundation programs and event grants. Isaac is a Wikipedian per excellence and a notable Wikipedian in Africa, a continent that is under-represented on wikimedia projects.

Isaac's contributions are not only useful to the Wikimedia Foundation but to the world at large. In a telephone interview with our correspondent, he said "I believe in the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation. The WMF's mission is not about me, it's not about Jimmy Wales but about millions of people across the world that find the Wikimedia projects useful and helpful."

About 5 million entries on Wikipedia are all written and edited by volunteers and for his contributions, he hasn't received a penny. An editor like Isaac is the life blood of Wikipedia, an increasingly vital resource that millions of people across the world get accurate information.

Olatunde Isaac is a prolific writer of Nigeria-related articles on Wikipedia. He created his first article on June 2014 and has written over 500 articles on Nigeria-related topics with improvements to thousands of Africa-related topics. Isaac is believed to have the highest number of articles by a Nigerian across all disciplines on Wikipedia.
He was born in Ondo State on 4th April, 1987 but moved to Lagos State when he was 10 years old. He attended State High School, Ibereko Badagry where he obtained the West Africa Secondary School Certificate before he proceeded to Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State for a Bachelor of science (Hons) degree in Biochemistry. He observed the one
year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program at Government Secondary School, Usha Kadu, Nasarawa State.

He worked briefly as an assistant medical laboratory scientist at Dynamic Medical Diagnostic Centre, Ikotun, Lagos State and a college teacher before he decided to give more attention to Wikipedia in 2014. He became an established editor of Wikipedia on 3th June 2014 and has since been coordinating Wikipedia project in Nigeria. He is always ready to train as many youths that are ready to join other Wikipedia editors globally.
