Ripples Nigeria - Senate President, Bukola Saraki, finally met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday evening at the Presidential Villa, Abuja over the lingering 2016 budget impasse
The Senate President met the President and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in the company of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and the Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun. Other leaders of the National Assembly were also present.
It would be recalled that Dogara had met behind closed doors with the President earlier in the day with Saraki, who also billed to meet with the President conspicuously absent.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, Saraki said the controversial issues about the budget had been laid to rest and assured that in a matter of days, the Appropriation Bill would be given the backing of the law for onward implementation by the federal government.
He said: “We just finished a meeting with the president and VP. We came to let them know some of the solutions that we found in moving the budget process forward and we are happy to say that we have agreed on the way forward and we believe that this process will be completed in matter of days rather than weeks. So, it is good news to Nigerians and all of us. We have found a way forward and in a meter of days the budget will be ready for president’s assent.”
