Buhari To Herald Consensus Building Roundtable

President Muhammadu Buhari is to herald the forthcoming consensus building roundtable meant to improve interaction between the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and the other arms of governance and relevant agencies in the country.

In a statement issued by Comrade Salihu Othman Isah, the Special Adviser to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN and made available to the press, the minister is expected to use the opportunity to present his justice sector reform agenda in the event to be declared opened by Mr. President on May 31.

“The Office of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice will use this opportunity to present his justice sector reform agenda and key priorities. He will also engage the leadership of the National Assembly, the Judiciary and relevant Ministries as well as the agencies whose work interface the justice sector. This roundtable presents a unique opportunity to interact with the development community in Nigeria as well”, he stressed.

He further emphasized that the objectives of the roundtable is to initiate a dialogue on the policy issues that will enhance the relationship between the three arms of government among others, to improve the justice sector in Nigeria; and the administration of criminal justice as well as fostering support for the President Buhari’s policies on anti-corruption, security and improvement of investment policies.

Isah listed other areas to include the development of measures to improve communication between other arms of government, relevant heads of agencies and the Office of the AGF as well as improve procedure for the review and enactment of relevant laws, regulations and policies that impact on transparency, accountability, crime prevention and improvement of the economy.

It would also set out to “review any problems that may have arisen in the past or that are inhibiting smooth administration of justice in Nigeria as well as the presentations of the AGF’s Justice Sector Reform Agenda and the draft National Anti-Corruption Strategy.”
