The need to promote Unity amongst the Igbo people of Lagos and to show love and mutual understanding to her host community, Lagos state will be some of the agenda of the newly crowned The New face of Igbo, Princess Ada-Okeke Amam by the Igbo Political Coalition in APC, Lagos State.
Princess Ada Okeke Amam, a social crusader, international business woman, philanthropist and community advocate revealed this at the weekend during her coronation and award as the new face of Igbo at an impressive ceremony in at the SWAN center of the national stadium in Lagos.
The occasion which was chaired by the Anya Igbo, Chief Chris Ekwilo , the President of Igbo speaking Community in Lagos state amidst other notable guests were full of Igbo cultural dances, folklore, indigenous foods and drinks. There was a lecture by a female lecturer to cap it all.
Over the years, Princess Ada Okeke-Amam, has silently assisted those in needy to achieve their dreams. The Adorable Social Club, An all female organistion which She founded a decade ago has executed charitable works across Nigeria And West African countries.
Her new project, Adorable Foundation International has also served as an avenue to campaign against drug abuse; promote women empowerment; revive moral values in the society,and as well as creating job employments amidst agricultural projects.
In her own words, the silent philanthropist who abhors noises especially when put smile on faces of those in need says “ the need to make the world a better place than I met it has been a motivating factor for me to achieve mush within a short time.
“I believe you don’t need millions of naira in your account before you can make a change. That cloth you are throwing away can be of help to some. Those food you want to empty inside dustbin can keep up to 10 families alive. But some people believe it has to be gigantic before it can be meaningful. I disagree”
Commenting on her newly bestowed award as the New Face of Igbo in Lagos sate, Okeke –Amam revealed that her folks must have felt the impact of her contributions to the society, hence the need to offer her the honour.
“This is a cherished award. I didn’t lobby for it and neither did I know that something good was coming. I am just being myself doing good because it has been imbibed in me from the cradle. And I am happy at the turn out today. Look at the people, the music etc ; it is just as we were at home in Igbo land, but we are here in Lagos. The love we exhibited by coming here to share in the joy of the award should be reciprocate in any other situation we might have found ourselves. But to me as true daughter of Igbo land, I will continue to promote unity among all, most especially our igbo folks’’
On how she found time to cope being a busy woman with lots of assignments; to this she says ” I pre-plan my programme ahead in order not to clash with each other. There are some that I send representatives and there are some that I have to go myself. Luckily I have an understanding and loving husnbad. We share same passion for giving back to the society. Same passion for making the voice of the voiceless heard’’. Okeke –Amam who gas taken her children along on many occasions to visit prisons and motherless homes, so that that they can know the need to share very early on life enthused.
On a parting note, Princess who has been described as been humble by all and sundry opined that humility does not kill.
“Being humble is inborn. I have seen people marveled at my humility and simplicity. Many have seen moved to tears whenever I come so low to help people. What did we bring to this world? What are we going to take along? We need to be humble. It doesn’t pay to be pompous. Humility is not just good in God’s eyes but also in human eyes also.
Present at the occasion were traditional rulers from all the tribes in Lagos state, culture lovers, Academics, women groups etc.
