An explosion has occurred in New York, United States of America.
The explosion occurred on Saturday at about 8:30pm, which is about 2:30am in Nigeria, in the Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan, which houses the United Nations Headquarters, where world leaders are to gather from Monday for the 71st UN General Assembly.
Some of the world leaders have started arriving the US for the General Assembly.
The US Secretary of States, John Kerry, is reported as one of the early birds in the area for the UNGA.
President Muhammadu Buhari is also scheduled to attend the UNGA.
The explosion occurred in an area less than two miles from the UN headquarters.
According to available information as at press time, 25 people suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the blast.
The explosion in Manhattan came hours after a pipe bomb exploded in a Jersey Shore garbage can shortly before a charity race there, which was meant to benefit Marines and Navy sailors.
The explosion was said to have occurred in the area of 23rd Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
Speaking in Colorado, not long after the explosion, Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, said: “I must tell you that just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on.”
