An Open Letter To Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai Of Kaduna State, By Terfa Naswem

An Open Letter To Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai Of Kaduna State
Your Excellency, I have observed your leadership both appointed and elected for a very long time and it behoves me to write this open letter to you at a time I see it very necessary to do so.

One of the greatest things that make someone an adorable leader is the ability of that person to prevent his hatred for a particularly group of people affect his right sense of judgement and leadership. A good leader is always careful with his words and actions because all these can give those he governs and others a positive or negative impression of who he is.

When you were the FCT Minister in the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, you contributed to making Abuja the way it is today by ensuring good structural work and urban planning which I commend you for that. You also have impressive records of good leadership in most of the places you served.

But your words and actions on many occasions show that you are someone who hates Christians and I want to let you know that a good leader does not lead effectively by discriminating against people because of their religion, tribe or ethnicity but your leadership is more of a discriminatory leadership.

Before the 2015 general elections took place, I was among those who relentlessly supported and campaigned for Buhari and APC both on and off social media. Despite the fact that Buhari is a Muslim and a Fulani, I still supported and campaigned for him hoping and believing that he will lead Nigeria better than Jonathan. Most people supported Jonathan because he is a Christian and some supported Buhari because he is a Muslim but I did not support and campaign for anyone based on religion but what I believe such a person can do for Nigeria to be a great nation.

When most Christians refused to support Buhari with the fear that he might Islamize Nigeria, I wrote many articles which I convinced them to vote for Buhari that he will not Islamize Nigeria and many ended up voting for him.

I hate injustice and discrimination based on religion, tribe, ethnicity or others and you have shown to be discriminatory. You would have been an adorable leader but your religious discrimination has placed you in the dark corner.

I want to let you know that you have shot yourself in the leg by your religious discrimination. You should not underestimate the power of social media. It is as a result of the power social media have that Presidents and governors now appoint Special Assistants and Advisers on Social Media. And if you continue with your religious discrimination, you should not waste your resources to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because it has been rumoured that you are nursing the intention of one day contesting. You will be vehemently campaigned against. I understand that you were one of those who motivated Buhari to contest for President in 2015 and he also encouraged you to contest for Governor. But if you want to be the President of Nigeria in future, you must make majority of Nigerians to be convinced that you are a better leader because many see you as someone who is an ardent anti-Christian and you still have time to prove them wrong including me because if you don’t, even if Buhari will raise your hand as someone he supports to contest for president, majority of Nigerians who have bad impression about you will not vote for you.

It is my fervent desire that you will be the kind of leader that can bring positive change not just to Kaduna State but Nigeria at large by being better than you are now.
