Following Africa’s correspondent for The Globe, Geoffrey York reported phone conversation that will ensue between President Donald Trump and his Nigeria's counterpart, President Muhammadu Buhari, fresh tweet by York has said Nigerian, who are eager to hear their President Speak should not expect immediate reports on Trump-Buhari call. He said they must await White House or Aso Rock releases.
Meanwhile, Nigeria and South African presidencies, have confirmed a request from the White House, to speak with Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Jacob Zuma.
Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmaad, wrote on Twitter: “President @MBuhari will speak to @POTUS, @realDonaldTrump today at 3:45 pm (Nigerian Time) from his London residence.”
“The Presidency confirms a request from the White House for a telecon between President Zuma and President Trump this afternoon, 13/2/17,” the South African presidency also wrote on their official Twitter page.
Earlier media reports has it that President Donald Trump would make a call to both President Zuma and President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.
Africa’s correspondent for The Globe, Geoffrey York, disclosed this via his twitter page.
He said Trump will be speaking to both African leaders in respect of celebration of Africa day.
York wrote: “Today is “Africa day” for Donald Trump. He speaks by phone to Nigerian president Buhari at 3:45 pm (Lagos time); then speaks to Jacob Zuma.
“Trump is scheduled to speak by phone to Zuma today at 5:10 pm, after speaking to Buhari first.
“Buhari’s phone call with Trump today will be fascinating; many Nigerians frustrated that Buhari has been gone from Nigeria for over 3 weeks.
“Nigerians, having heard almost nothing from Buhari for 24 days, are wondering how Donald Trump will even locate him for the phone call today,” he wrote.
Buhari is currently on a medical vacation in the UK and has been out of Nigeria since January 19.
He was initially scheduled to return February 5, but he sent a letter to the Senate asking for an indefinite extension of his vacation.
