Ambode To Boost LASPOTECH Morale At 25th Convocation Ceremony

Gov. Akinwumi Ambode, The Lagos State Governor will personally be the  Chief host/guest  at the  25th Lagos state Polytechnic Convocation ceremony slated for Thursday, 9th March, 2017.

  Tagged ‘LASPOTECH ALOFT AT 40’, the institution has started rolling drums to mark her 25th Convocation ceremonies and 40 years of it existence with lots of programmes to make it grand.  

  LASPOTECH which took off as Lagos State College of Science and Technology (LACOSTECH) in 1977, has invested huge resources in human capacity building through the training and retraining of students, who are today occupying strategic position in all the strata of the national economy, especially in the Media,  Banking, Insurance industry, Engineering, etc.


 At a well-attended press briefing to highlight this year’s convocation ceremony, the rector of the institution, Mr. Samuel Sogunro, who was basking in the euphoria of having the governor Akinwumi Ambode consented to partake fully in this year’s occasion told the audience that LASPOTEC is poised for greater achievements.

  In his words, the Rector who was surrounded with most of his lieutenants said that “the exploit of the institution in the provision of excellent and qualitative graduates over the last 40 years, has positioned the polytechnic as the number five polytechnic in the country and number one in Lagos state.

“We will continue to work harder through provision of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment that will make it number one polytechnic of choice in the nation.

“Our vision is to be a ‘Polytechnic  of Excellence’, offering world class  educational services. Our mission is  to produce  skilled  manpower for commerce and industry using modern  facilities  and  competent personnel for the benefit of all” Sogunro declared.

Meanwhile, Huawei Technologies has donated  60 computers, inverters and a video conference facilities to the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu in order to boost ICT in the school.

In order for  Lagos State government to instill entrepreneurship in youths, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Afrifone, a phone-producing firm, to establish a mobile phone repair and assembly laboratory in the institution. The proposed laboratory is to teach and empower students and staff.

Speaking with NEWSPUNCH ONLINE reporter after the Press briefing, Sogunro who was preparing to go for the Jumat service; one of the programmes highlighted for the ceremony said that “this (laboratory)  which would be hosted in the Faculty of Engineering will promote the image of the institution and add value to the students. There are a lot of graduates out there without jobs. That is why our focus is for the students to use their hands to do things that will profit them not to look for white collar jobs.

 “We will place more emphasis on revival of Agriculture issues in the polytechnic with a view to revive the fish and palm oil farming. Reclaim some of our landed property being encroached on illegally by some people, and boost the gari industry. We have  over 12,000 hectares of land  on agriculture and we are partnering with serious farmers to actualise this’’.

 The school will be graduating 9,228 students across all its schools.
