Familiar with scandals, the Nigeria's Senate is currently enmeshed in a fresh corrupt practice of sale of best Local Government awards involving the senate committee on states and local governments, News Punch has learned.
According to Thebrief's Exclusive report, the Senate President Bukola Saraki is resolved to investigate the allegation of extortion labeled against the senate committee.
The committee had allegedly written to some local governments, demanding N400,000 from them for the award of “best-performing state”, a source confided in TheBrief .
The source said the senate president was peeved when he got wind of the allegation, and he vowed to launch an immediate investigation into the matter.
“The senate committee was accused of demanding money from some local governments for the award of best performing state,” he said.
“A governor had alerted the deputy senate president who informed the senate president. So, the matter will be investigated.
” The senate president has zero tolerance for corruption. Although, nothing is confirmed yet, a thorough investigation will unravel those behind this.”
