Segun Adewale, an aspirant for the office of governor in Ekiti state, has disowned a parody Twitter account being operated in his name.
Adewale deplored the move by “frustrated and disgruntled politicians” trying to link him to the parody Twitter handle and the obnoxious comments therefrom.
”To hold Otunba Segun Adewale responsible for comments of some individuals who have been exchanging insulting tweets with sponsored agents of Governor Ayodele Fayose on Twitter is not only mischievous but shows clear desperation from those who are uncomfortable with Adewale’s entry into the governorship race and his mission to fight poverty in Ekiti”
Rather than the fake social media account, “Otunba Segun Adewale’s personal Twitter handle is @segunaeroland and Facebook account is “Segun Adewale”, both of which he has had for over 5 years”, the statement signed by Tosin Jegede, Director-General of Otunba Segun Adewale Foundation, stated.
“We wish to state unequivocally that Otunba Segun Adewale holds fellow Ekiti citizens in high regards. He is cultured and would not have spoken or written in any manner that may undermine or denigrate his own people.
“His records as a young lad at Ipoti High School (in Ekiti) clearly shows he his level-headed and an ‘omoluabi’ (thoroughbreed).
Adewale believes “the time to eradicate poverty in Ekiti is now and so, he is determined to use his knowledge to achieve wealth creation in the state”
Moreover, Adewale stated the spoofy social media was the handiwork of "politicians who are intimidated by Adewale’s decision to join the race for Ekiti Government House come 2018”.
Adewale cited hi-profile Nigerians such as ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonthan, who found themselves in similar situations and had to cry out as he had done.
He urged political tolerance among politicians and their followers.
“My motivation to join the contest for idea is public service delivery and I will not be distracted from this objective”, Adewale stated.
