The Emir of Kano is under investigation of alleged misappropriation of over N6 billion/
The Kano state’s House of Assembly had launched an investigation of the emir, following allegations of funds misappropriation, “defamation of character, breach of oath of office/oath of allegiance, abuse of office privileges and protocol, and political and religious interference”.
The Assembly Monday suspended the probe of the Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II, following the intervention of several prominent Nigerians including acting President Yemi Osinbajo, former military rulers, General Ibrahim Babangida, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
The prominent Nigerians were reported to have prevailed on the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to ask the state assembly to let go of the probe in the interest of peace in the state.
But Comrade Oyayeye of Coalition of Civil Society on Movement for Good Governance condemned the intervention of Osinbajo, IBB, Dangote and others, describing it is a wrong signal in the anticorruption war of Mr. President.
Oyayeye in a chat with News Punch's Publisher, Dansu Peter said, if the calibre of the Acting President, IBB, Dangote could intervene on behalf of the Emir Sanusi over corruption allegation, it shows President Buhari's corruption fight is losing human face.
He said; "If Sanusi is innocent, they could have allowed the State Assembly to end its investigation and establish his innocence. But with Osinbajo, the Acting President and a supposed clergyman halting such huge corruption probe, with the likes of Dangote, IBB and co, it means a lot".
"They have no doubt dragged Buhari's corruption fight to the mud. Who intervened for a common man who stole handset at Osogbo and was sentenced to life imprisonment? Who will intervene for an ordinary Nigerian, if caught in such act? I am beginning to conclude that President Buhari's war against corruption is faceless, selective, targeted at the helpless," he lamented.
