President Muhammadu Buhari has express confident in the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo despite insinuation from some northern elements that the Acting President is purportedly plotting to undermine the President to succeed him in 2019.
This revelation was made by the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, who just arrived from the United Kingdom where she went to visit her ailing husband.
She had departed the shores of the country for the UK to spend some time with her husband barely 23 days after the President went abroad for further medical consultations.
Recalls iIn the past weeks, there had been grumblings, veiled as passing opinions and with a vitriolic undertone.
When at last it came, the hail of criticisms––harshly accusing him of consolidating his power base ahead of the 2019 election––was a viral online polemic by a Dr. Ismaila Farouk.
The opening paragraph of the diatribe accused the Acting President of ‘tactical’ nepotism and cronyism that has seen key strategic cabinet positions filled by people linked to him.
But Mrs. Buhari on return from UK said that her husband appreciates Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for his loyalty.
She made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by her media aide, Suleiman Haruna.
According to the statement, Aisha returned on Tuesday morning from the UK, where she went to visit her husband, who is on medical leave.
On arrival, she conveyed the appreciation of the President to Nigerians over their constant prayers.
She called on Nigerians to continue to be strong in the face of challenges and to support the federal government in implementing the agenda for which they were elected.
“Mr President thanked the acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo for his loyalty and called on Nigerians to continue to support the acting President in his effort to actualise the mandate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC),” she said.
