Oluwo Escapes Assassination
A first class paramount ruler, the Oluwo of Iwo, HIM Oba Adewale Akanbi last Wednesday escaped death by whisker as some heavily armed touts attacked the monarch.

The assailant, it was alleged, were planted by a fierce rival, Mr. Abiola Ogundokun, in order to foil the scheduled installation of a chief in the town.

While the terror last, a police officers who came to maintain public order, Sergeant Ikuesan Taiwo, was not luvcky, as he was axed on his head bythe miscreants who later took to their heels to avoid apprehension.

Narrating the incident to our reporter, an eyewitness said dangerous weapons such asbaxes, pistols, stones, sticks, charms were brandished by the youths who targeted to murder Oba Akanbi, as the monarch prevailed on security men not to be provoked to respond despite the humiliation.


The witness said the youths, who insisted that
the Oluwo cannot install Sooko while, threw
stones and pebbles profusely at the direction of
the monarch.'

However, one of the perpetrators named Saheed
has been arrested and kept in the police net for
interrogation.

But a palace source said from findings, it
was revealed that the miscreants were
instruments of Mr.Biola Ogundokun, the
dethroned Otun Balogun of Iwo, who has earlier
vowed to make Iwo ungovernable for Oluwo by
causing public unrest.

Mr. Ogundokun, who have been having a running
battle with the traditional, it was said, had
the threatening the police to release the
apprehended boy and halt further arrest of the
ring leaders.

Despite the security threat, Oba Akanbi installed
Prince Taofeeq Adedimeji Tadese as the pioneer
Chief Sooko of Elee royal house of Adagunodo
ruling house.

Prior to the installation, miscreants allegedly
hired by Mr. Ogundokun strategically positioned
themselves with harms to disallow the success
of the chieftaincy induction, claiming that Elee
compound is not for Oluwo while majority of the
actors were not native of the compound.

According to the palace source, an elder of the
town, Chief Mojirin of Iwo was also kidnapped by
the angry youths at the wee hour of Wednesday
for his loyalty to Oluwo.

The police has declared other ring leaders such
as Rilwan Afolabi popularly addressed as Afoo,
Cology and Arolu wanted for attempted murder,
kidnapping and public unrest.

Oluwo appealed to security operatives to bring
all the perpetrators to book and prayed security
agents not to entertain any petition from
Ogundokun henceforth.
