The University of Calabar has concluded plans to honour Dr Idorenyin Etukodo, a lecturer in the department of Mathematics and Statistics who recently refunded the sum of N500,000 he received as salary in error to the University.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Zana Akpagu described Etukodo as a sincere and honest man even as he disclosed that an honour will be conferred on him on a date to be determined by the management.
Prof Akapgu said that the act was exemplary and shows that sincere people still exist in Nigeria.
He said "Honesty still exists. There's hope in this exemplary behavior.
"Surely Management will find a way to recognize him for this. An honour's award for honesty to be conferred on him, on a date and occasion to be determined by Management.
It will be recalled that the University Bursar, Beatrice Igwe, in an acknowledgement letter dated August 16, 2017, confirmed the receipt of the money even as she described the act as "a show of honesty and integrity".
