Ikpea, Ubogu urge Super Eagles to win WAFU cup as Independence gift

The home based Super Eagles have been urged to win the Fox sponsored WAFU cup ongoing in Ghana.

The Super Eagles led by Salisu Yusuf qualified for the final of the sub regional championship after pipping hard fighting neighbours, Benin Republic  1-0 in the semi final on Thursday.

Speaking with the press shortly after the game, Rev.Samuel Ikpea, the national chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters club expressed his happiness on the exploits of the team in the competition. 

According to him, the performances of the team so far is a strong indication that the country's football is set to regain its pride of place in world football.


" I am particularly impressed by the performances of this team in the competition. I want to implore the boys to continue to work harder and bring home the trophy as Independence gift to Nigerians," Ikpea stated.

He went on to disclose that the supporters club are set to storm Accra, Ghana, to encourage and support The team to victory.
Speaking in the same vein,renowned sports philanthropist and managing director of Micura Services limited, Chief Michael Orobosa Ubogu ,was optimistic that the Super Eagles will return to Nigeria with the cup.

He hinged his belief in what he describes as a resurgence in Nigerian football.

" Our football is getting back on track.  I believe self belief and the hunger to succeed will propel the team to success. I also want the players to win the cup for us as independence gift," Ubogu ,who is also the sole sponsor of the age long Maritime football championship added.
