A paramount traditional ruler in Osun State, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has urged the Are Ona Kakanfo-designate, Otunba Gani Adams, to use his appointment to promote Yoruba tradition and culture devoid of secret society and cultism.
In a congratulatory message, the monarch urged Adams to always remember that with his new title, he is saddled with the responsibility of defending the Yoruba race.
He advised the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) leader to prepare to wage war against ritual killings, which he said continued to claim many lives. Oba Akanbi noted that though Adams had been defending the race before he was appointed, he must give the race a new direction of hope, peace and unity.
He said: “I have no doubt in your ability to defend the race because I have met and discussed with you before. I have monitored your activities and your tours around the globe, promoting festivals and culture and tradition of the Yoruba.
“You must now try and identify those who have passion like you to work for the race and collaborate with them. I believe you can initiate the process to purify our culture and make it shed its excesses.
“So, as I am felicitating with you on the new appointment and responsibility. I pray that you will live long to enjoy your new office in sound health and wealth. You will never experience untoward circumstances in the course of discharging the duties of the new appointment.”
