How Gani Fawehinmi Predicted Long Ago That I'll Be Aare Ona Kakanfo - Adams

Gani Adams
The newly appointed Generalismo of Yorubaland, the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Otunba Gan Adams has said the late human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi had long ago before his death referred to him as Aare Ona Kakanfo.

He said the late activist had on many occasions called him the Generalismo, but he (Adams) often laughed off.

Gani Adams made the revelation in an interview with the New Telegraph newspaper.

In the inter, the Yoruba traditional military general spoke about some myths associated with the title among other burning issues affecting the Yoruba race.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

"Since I received the letter confirming me as the Generalissimo from the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, many questions had been thrown at me because of the myth associated with it. But I will let you know that we have been in the process for some time."

"Infact, when Chief Gani Fawehinmi was alive, he used to address me as the Generalissimo, but I never took him serious nor was I interested, this was so because of the negative impression people have about the title. But I came to understand that there is no title that does not have its positive and negative aspect."

"Because of the impression I had about the title then, I told people I was not interested in the position, but my interest in the chieftancy title started in January this year, when we went for Oodua Progressive Union World Congress."

"After the opening ceremony, some of my friends ask me what would be my reaction if the Alaafin of Oyo confers me with the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo, I turned them down, I told them I was not interested. I told them I had been conferred with 52 chieftaincy titles and that I don’t need that of Aare Ona Kakanfo."

"Some of them sat me down to educate me further that, I should not be scared about the circumstances my predecessors died, that I should not reason that way, because death is inevitable and it will come whenever it will come and in whatever form. They impressed it on me that, if God does not want me to die at a younger age, he knows how to preserve my life."
