A source familiar with the situation of Yusuf Buhari, the only son of President Muhammadu Buhari, has provided insight into the president son’s condition.
News Proof had yesterday reported the story of Yusuf’s motor bike crash on Wednesday.
The presidency later confirmed the story, saying Yusuf was in stable condition.
But the source who preferred not to be named said when Yusuf was brought to the Cedarcrest Hospital, he suffered severe head injury and was immediately put on “mechanical support” to prevent him from dying, Daily Nigerian reports
The source said the president’s son suffered a severe head injury and femoral fracture after the ghastly bike crash around Gwarimpa area of the capital city.
According to the source, Yusuf’s level of consciousness was 5 in the scale of 15.
He said research shows that if the best scale is 3 to 4 after twenty four hours, 87% of those individuals will either die or remain in a vegetative state and only 7% will have a moderate disability or good recovery.
“In patients with a scale from 5 to 7, 53% will die or remain in a vegetative state, while 34% will have a moderate disability or good recovery.
“In patients with a scale of 8 to 10, 27% will die or remain in a coma, while 68% will have a moderate disability and/or good recovery. In patients who have a scale from 11 to 15, only 7% will be expected to die or remain in a coma, while 87% would expect to have at least a moderate disability and/or good recovery,” the source added.
Other inside sources hinted that since there is no air ambulance in Nigeria, a presidential jet will be kitted with medical personnel and equipment to transport Yusuf to the United Kingdom or Germany for treatment.
Since assumption of office in May 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari had on several occasions sought medical treatment in the UK.
