The Oluwo of Iwo Land, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi Adewale, the Telu I has reiterated that he is not a second in command (Alase Keji Orisa) to any deity as it's commonly believed in Yoruba tradition.
The Osun monarch in a note sent to News Proof, titled "Alase Lori Orisa: Yoruba Common Sense Perspective" said a critical analysis of the meaning of ORISA in Yoruba language connotes, THOSE CAREFULLY, EXCEPTIONALLY AND INEQUITABLY SELECTED BY THE CREATED.
He said, it is the belief of the Yorubas that those refer to ORISA are people with extraordinary powers or exceptional qualities and had used such powers or qualities to contribute immensely to the development of humanity in their lifetime, which were later revered and turned to an object of worship.
The Oluwo argued that as a king, he is more than any Orisa. He said Kings are made by the Almighty God, which is more reason why Yoruba culture refers to Kings as KABIYESI, which means UNQUESTIONABLE. He acknowledged that only God Almighty is UNQUESTIONABLE. He further argued that by now sharing the same name with the Almighty God, it is an aberration to refer to King as a second in command to ORISAS (gods)
Oba Akanbi, the Telu I, however, enjoined all Yoruba leaders to rise above referrED to ALASE KEJI ORISA, and themselves as God's incarnate by solving various problems as may be faced by their subjects
"An Oba is made by God and anyone who occupies such seat is expected to act as a father for all and never subject himself to a lesser being."
"KABIESI in Yoruba language means an unquestionable being, who is that? God of course. If a man shares a name with God to be unquestionable, I think he should rise above being a second in command to other exceptional beings because that is what he is too," the monarch said
