Herdsmen Attack: Plateau Residents Say Governor Lalong's Sanctimonious Display Will Not Redeem Him

Simon Bako Lalong
Most residents in Plateau State have expressed their disappointment in Governor, Simon Bako Lalong for his criticism of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom over the Anti-Open Grazing Law and acceptance to establish "Cattle Colony" proposed by the Buhari-led Federal Government. Many members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have also expressed their disappointment in him as well.

A trader at the Terminus Market along Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos, who identified himself as Peter CY said Gov. Lalong lied when he said that Plateau State is experiencing peace. He said not quite long some communities in the state were attacked by Fulani herdsmen. He noted that Lalong has lost the goodwill of the people to him and his sanctimonious display will not redeem him because it is too late.

A keke rider at First Gate, Dadin Kowa, Jos who said his name was Usman, applauded Lalong saying that he is the best governor Plateau State has ever produced because of his good policies and he will still vote for him in 2019 general election.

Pam, an electrician along Bukuru express way said Gov. Lalong is trying to impress Buhari to support him for re-election in 2019 by becoming a "Yes Man" to Buhari. But from his tour of Plateau State and the anger burning in people's heart, Lalong image cannot be redeemed and he is perceived as the enemy of the people.

One of the commercial drivers in Plateau Riders, Jos who identified himself as Yusuf said they also want Lalong to establish the Anti-Open Grazing Law, but the governor rejected it. He said he like the courage of Gov. Ortom in implementing the Law and said further that they are hoping for the same law to be established in Plateau State as a necessary step to curbing Fulani herdsmen/farmer clashes and that they will resist vehemently any attempt by Gov. Lalong to establish "Cattle Colony" in Plateau State.
