Report making the round suggests that a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore may be inching close to dumping the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as some supporters loyal to him on Thursday invaded the Peoples Democratic Party Secretariat at the Ogo Oluwa area along the Osogbo/Gbongan Expressway, Osogbo, lowered the party flags and set them ablaze.
The signpost of the PDP erected in front of the building was also vandalised and the party logos and emblems were removed by the aggrieved supporters, who rained curses on the party.
The PDP secretariat at Ogo Oluwa was the only secretariat of the opposition party until crisis hit the party and a faction led by Mr. Soji Adagunodo moved its secretariat to the Bisket area along Ikirun Road.
The supporters had gathered for what one of them called a routine congress of the Dr. Bayo Faforiji-led PDP faction, which is loyal to Omisore.
Omisore; a former deputy national chairman of the PDP, Tajudeen Oladipo; a former Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan; and other chieftains of the party attended the congress.
Omisore declined to speak to journalists but the Director-General of the faction, Bade Falade, who was a member of the House of Representatives, told journalists that Omisore and other members of the faction were still in the PDP.
Falade lamented the alleged hurried manner the congresses of the party were conducted about two weeks ago without inviting the Faforiji faction to participate in the congresses.
He said, “We gathered here today for what is our routine congress to brief our people about what happened between the last congress and now. But before we know it, our supporters who are aggrieved lowered the flags and set them ablaze. They are aggrieved and they have genuine reasons to be aggrieved but the burning of the flags was not done at our own instance. They did it on their own.
“We are still in the PDP. Otunba Iyiola Omisore is in the PDP, he has not left the PDP. When the case in court is determined, then we will know the next step to take.”
