Stop blaming Buhari alone for the security challenges in Nigeria - Etim

By Dansu Peter

Honourable Bassey Etim, the Senatorial Candidate  for Akwa Ibom North- East Senatorial District in the 2015 general elections has asked Nigerians to stop blaming president Mohammadu Buhari alone for the current state of insecurity in the country.

Rather, Etim asked Nigerians to hold the  Senate, Legislators and  State governors  accountable for not doing enough in assisting the Federal government in putting  an end to the security crises in the country.

Etim in a statement made available to the Nigerian in Abuja also reacted to the judgement of the Supreme Court  that declared Senator Bassey Akpan as the authentic winner to represent the people of Akwa Ibom Ibom North- East Senatorial District.

He charged his teeming supporters to put behind them the judgement and look ahead of 2019.

Describing the outcome of the Judgement as repugnant to equity, justice and fair play, Etim added that he do not blame anybody hence the Apex court is the  final court of the land

"The outcome of the judgment is repugnant to equity, justice and fair play  thereby making the judgment unreliable. I am hurt but feel honoured and happy that you appreciate my efforts by fighting a just cause. Since after the judgment, I received over 5,000 calls and text messages from the constituents and beyond. However, I was touched by the fact that a lot of youth(s)/ women are unemployed, high rate of poverty, no industry, deceitful empowerment strategy, abandonment of the widows / less privileged in government representation, inadequate laws to address the wanton killings in the country and lot more.

"By this judgment of the Supreme Court, the words of  Jutice Aputa JSC, as it then was is glaring in this circumstance ‘‘We are final not because we are infallible but we are infallible because we are final’’. However, I believe in the words of Mahatma Gandhi which says ‘‘There is a higher court than the court of law and that is the court of conscience. It supersedes all the courts’
"Injustice in judgment can cause disarray in the society. I know how disappointed the good conscience minded could feel.  I urge you all to look beyond the judgment and never stop believing that fighting for what is right is Godly.

In life, one must chart a course like a man of destiny, don’t stop and look around the hill, knowing that beyond the hill there are more and more hills.

"My passion to serve the people of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial district was never about one election therefore I urge you to get your Permanent Voters Card and get ready to vote for a credible person that will give you effective representation".

Recalling the zoning factor which according to him has been in existence since 1978, he said  that his participation in the race was based on the  numerous factors including the zoning arrangement among the three Federal Constituency to wit: Uyo Federal Constituency, Etinan Federal constituency and Itu – Ibiono Federal constituency.

This rotation he said has never witness two different persons from the same Federal constituency representing Akwa Ibom North East simultaneously. "This is a well-known fact to the PDP leadership in the state, just like the rotation of the Presidency of Nigeria between the Northern and Southern part of the country being known to all and sundry", Etim added.

He thank his supporters for their  prayers, support, mobilization and commitment in ensuring that equity, justice and fairness is respected in the selection of the Akwa Ibom  North East Senatorial District representation.
