Senator Ademola Adeleke |
Alhaji. Khalid Abass, the principal of Ede Muslim High School, Ede, Osun State has been arrested by the police in connection with the certificate scandal involving Senator Ademola Adeleke, the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the September 22 governorship election in the state.
The principal was arrested on Wednesday in respect of a school leaving testimonial that he issued to Ademola Adeleke, whose eligibility to contest the coming governorship election in Osun was being challenged on the basis of academic achievements.
It was reliably gathered that the nabbed principal is currently cooling off his heels at the Nigerian Police Force-Interpol, Alagbon Close, Etiosa, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Two aggrieved members of the PDP, Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu, had approached an Osun State High court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital alleging that Senator Adeleke did not possess Certificate as required by Section 177 (d) of the 1999 constitution and prayed the court to set aside the primary election of the party that produced Adeleke having not met the required qualifications.
The presiding judge, justice David Oladimeji, however, explained that granting the prayers of the plaintiffs may subject the court to mockery if the Senator thereafter presents the certificate.
He then adjourned the case to give room for the senator to respond to the allegations and slated the matter for definite ruling on Wednesday, August 1st 2018. But the ruling was halted as the plaintiffs lawyer barrister Olufemi Ayandokun opted for out of court settlement.
Consequently, the court again adjourned the case to August 6 for hearing of all pending applications.
