Bayelsa Guber: Groups want former REC, Briyai cleared for APC primaries

Several civil society groups have called on the leadership of the All Progressive Congress,APC to clear Frankland Oyeins Briyai  to contest the governorship primaries of the party in Bayelsa state.

The groups made up of the interfaith youth council of Nigeria, northern youth association of Nigeria, the advocacy for the empowerment of Nigerian women initiative among others said a level playing ground must be ensured to enable all the actors in the race prove their worths to the people.

Led by the President of the  Inter-Faith youth council of Nigeria, comrade Ishaq Godiya Adamu,the groups said the antecedents of Briyai when he was the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner,REC in Cross River state makes him stands out among the crowd.

The groups said party primaries must and should be conducted with the highest standards of transparency and sincerity for the entire process to be deemed credible and in the best interest of our nation democracy.

"At this juncture, we must state in vivid terms that we are deeply displeased  with the developments pertaining the Bayelsa State APC governorship primaries.

"The disqualification of one of the leading aspirants in the person of Dr. Frankland Oyeins is totally anti democratic and anti progressive step.

"Dr. Oyin comes in as one of the very credible aspirants with towering credentials and it is only fair that the APC should have accorded him the level playing ground to exercise his fundamental rights as a worthy party man.

"We are aware that there are strong forces who feel threatened by candidature of Dr. Frankland Oyeins,we urge the party not to be drawn into the needless fears of those who do not mean well for our democracy.

"We therefore use this medium to appeal to the All Progressives Congress to immediately clear Dr. Frankland Oyin to contest the APC Party primaries in Bayelsa State"they said
