As the world set aside today 5th October as day to celebrate teachers all over the world, Mr. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, the founder and initiator of Sesi Whingan Foundation, a non-profit and non-governmental organization has joined others to celebrate and advocate better working and welfare conditions for Nigerian teachers.
According to a report by Gold Adedoyin of Current News Now, the young philanthropist said teachers' roles are key to sustainable growth of any society. He, however urged governments at all levels to pay more premiums to teachers and their welfare.
“I am using the medium to commemorate with teachers all over the world, and in particulars to the nation builders in Lagos and Nigeria at large."
"Lets me also use this medium to advocate for more reward to teachers in Nigeria. As a widely travelled person, I notice the disparities between the treatment of teachers in Nigeria compare to other places of the world."
"Teachers in Nigeria should be rewarded bountifully like their counterparts in other parts of the world. They should be rewarded for their contributions to the growth and development of the human element of production. They are panacea and developer of the knowledge needed for development of the society. So, they should be rewarded immensely here on earth for their efforts."
"Let me quickly say this that one of the cardinal point of my NGO is education and warfare of the teachers is a top priority.
We have made it a point of duty to touch pupils and teachers lifes in so many ways."
"As you may recall, my NGO the sesi whingan foundation distributed food items and facemasks to some students and teachers in Badagry area during ravaging pandemic. God willing, we will continue to do more by God's grace," Sesi reportedly said according to Current News Now.
He concluded by wishing Nigerian teachers more rewarding years ahead.
Mr Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan is a young philanthropist based in Badagry, Lagos State.
Since 1994, 5th of October Of every year has been marked as the World Teachers Day by UNESCO. The day has since been celebrated to commemorate the teachers and anniversary of the signing of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers and the 1997 Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel.
