Omo-Agege is a man of Grace- Group, By Ode Williams

By Ode Williams

The  non political group knowns as Concerned Nigerians For Better Nigeria (CNBN) has describe the Deputy President Of the Senate, Federal Republic Of Nigeria. Olorogun Ovie Omo Agege, as a man of "Grace"

The group made the assertion in a press statement signed by the chairman of the group Olorogun Godwin Obire (JP) titled. "A Profile in Grace" on Monday 22nd, March, 2021 and made available to newsmen.

(CNBN) said. Grace is the kindness that only God bestows. It is a divine blessing or an unmerited favour from the Almighty. It is the extraordinary phenomenon that enshrouds a person, making it possible to surmount various life challenges. (CNBN) noted that further research indicates that almost all the virtues of life issue from grace and a look at both the cardinal and the theological virtues; prudence, justice temperance, courage, faith, hope and love reveal that none of the above virtues can be possessed by a person without the special spark of God. The grace of God becomes the substance mostly sought after for a meaningful life.

The group claimed that to this end, a fall from grace is to lose dignity that may lead to a disgrace. It is a fall from the sacred to the profane, the edifying to the stultifying and from the sublime to the ridiculous. A fall from grace is the loss of the solemn radiance and a stripping of the divine aura. The group said that grace is the je ne se pas that explains the mystery behind the profound accomplishment by a few in various areas of life that present enormous challenges to others. On the other hand, while most men grope in the dark or in their shadows, only the favoured encounter self realization and attain their full potentials in life.

"CNBN" further asserted that the grace of God is the most suitable vortex that underpins the life of Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing the Urhobo Nation and people of Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta State. Ovie Omo-Agege was born on August 3, 1963 into the family of the erudite and incorruptible Nigerian jurist, Justice James Omo-Agege and Ms. Francesca Okwendo of the Wanogho Royal Family of Orogun. The birth of every child is an epiphany of hope wrapped in a canvass of diverse possibilities. As hard as parents may strive for an upward social mobility of the child, it requires the grace of God to twang the transcendental cord that excites the critical elements in the child for self awakening.

Thus, while his peers at a very early age floundered, Ovie Omo-Agege flourished with a clear vision of his life mission. He pursued the vision with incandescent passion, valour, candour and honour. Ovie Omo-Agege attended and left primary school as the teachers delight. He proceeded to St. George’s Grammar School, Obinomba in Ukwani LGA, Delta State and obtained good grades in West African School Certificate. He pursued a course of study in Law at the prestigious University of Benin, (UNIBEN) and earned LLB, and a BL from Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1986 after completing his professional legal training at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.

In 1990, Ovie Omo-Agege moved to the United States of America. He immediately assumed the position of a Foreign Associate in the Law Office of Charles O. Agege in Los Angeles, California. As a Foreign Associate, he counseled foreign clients on Nigeria law and prepared litigation strategies for clients. He anchored an extensive portfolio of responsibilities in matters involving personal injury, breach of contract, fraud, securities, real estate, banking, letters of credit and other financial instruments. In 1992, Ovie Omo-Agege was admitted into and remains an active member in good standing of the State Bar of California, United States District Court (Central District of California) and the United States Supreme Court, Washington, DC. Almost thereafter, he founded the law firm of Agege & Associates also in 1992 as a Senior Partner. By 1996, Agege & Associates became Agege & Esin through a partnership merger. The new firm was naturally broader in scope, with operational scope involving international wire transfers, insurance, professional malpractice, suits against foreign entities under the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act (FSIA) and Domestic International Commercial arbitration, admiralty and marine litigation practices, and extensive criminal defence litigation.
According to the statements further said,
Ovie Omo-Agege later attended Tulane University Law School, New Orleans where he obtained an LLM (Masters of Law) degree with distinction in 2002. Only the initiated will appreciate that to achieve a sustainable success and stability in politics requires a combination of vision, passion, courage, intellect, humility, sagacity, perseverance, godliness and character. It is the consistent application of the above set of variables that incubates grace which is the summary of virtues. As a little known courageous young adult from a far less known community, Ovie Omo-Agege dedicated his life as a change-agent that would transform his abjectly neglected area to national limelight. Equipped with a frontier spirit and Law degrees, he set out to restructure the psychology and consciousness of his people.

Based on his stellar pedigree, he was appointed the Executive Assistant to then Governor James Ibori and later as Commissioner, Special Duties, Government House and subsequently the Secretary to the Government of Delta State. He ennobled the three offices with remarkable skill, exceptional diligence, elegance and panache. Buoyed up by his compelling leadership convictions and calls by a broad spectrum and critical mass of the people of Delta State to vie for the governorship office, Omo-Agege joined the race in 2006. He became a leading contender for the gubernatorial nomination of the PDP. He secured the highest delegates among contestants from his Senatorial district though Dr Emmanuel Udughan who later became the governor finally emerged as the party’s 2007 candidate. Omo-Agege also contested to be governor in 2011 but did not succeed.

Upon leaving government in 2007, Omo-Agege became the Chairman/CEO of Techsprings Limited, a dredging and oil services company based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He held this position until he was elected to the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015. He demonstrated an extraordinary acumen in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles and in 2015, Ovie Omo-Agege was elected a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Delta Central Senatorial District on the platform of Labour Party, (LP).

A prodigy in Parliamentary practice, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has several motions and bills to his credit. He is a detribalized patriot whose love, dedication, sacrifice and passion for Nigeria are legendary. A man who canvasses the centrality of morals in the dynamics of power. A classic public speaker whose incisive contributions in the Senate engender responsibility, nation building and hope. Sen. Omo-Agege’s quality representation resonates resoundingly with his constituency. He has parlayed his cognate experience into monumental achievements in Delta Central Senatorial District and beyond. In human resource and capacity building, through the Ovie Omo-Agege Foundation, Sen. Omo-Agege contributes to the upliftment of the human spirit and dignity.

Adding that, going to his constituents, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege is simply a colossus, purveyor of morals, the Angel of history that has been so anxiously awaited, the peoples Prometheus, jinx-breaker, visionary, reflective scholar and a soldier of democracy. Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has to his credit several awards, honours and traditional titles. Traditionally, he has been conferred with the Obarisi of Ughelli Kingdom, the Uvo of Mosogar Kingdom, Ohovwore of Eku, Obarisi of Orogun Kingdom and the Obarisi of Effurun-Otor Kingdom, etc. Never fight a person under grace because the grace they carries will disgrace you.
