A youth leader in the state, who also doubles as the the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Youth Development, Akanbi A. Saheed Afonja made the commendation in a Press Statement made available to the media on Friday, 7th May, 2021.
Afonja said the youths in the state are very grateful to the ruling APC over what he described as harkening to the voice of the young people by subsidizing 50% of the party nomination fee for the forthcoming local government elections, just as it did to the female contestants.
The youths in the party had earlier canvased and appealed to the leadership of the party, through the office of the Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Youth Development, to consider subsidizing the party's nomination fee charged for youths contestants, just as it did to the women. The plea, the party leadership obliged almost immediately.
According to Afonja, the commendation became necessary considering the spontaneous positive response to the request by Youths to the party hierarchy in this regard.
He said this uncommon gesture, will not only allow and encourage youths participation in politics, but will also enable the youths in governance to take decisions that will determine their future.
He also argued that youths participation in governance, especially at the grassroots will reduce youths agitation and foster peace in our various communities.
He, however urged the youths across the state to seize this golden opportunity and get themselves involved in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
He advised youth to shun all forms of violence and thuggery as the elections fast approaching.
