Ahead of the February 26 convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a top contender for Gboko/Tarka Federal House of Representatives Seat in 2023 Mr Cosmas Akighir has expressed support for Sen Dr George Akume in his aspiration to become the next chairman of the party.
Akighir who tasked the People of Gboko/Tarka, Benue and indeed all States of the Federation including the National Government to eschew all forms of political differences and support Akume said, he is a leader with growth mindset and is capable to lead the party to the path of success in the 2023 General elections.
Speaking during a consultation tour in Ikyumbur, Mbadim, Mbatiav, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, Akighir extol the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs as a visionary leader who has served in various mandate to serve as the party chairman.
He said, "With his wealth of experience as a former Governor of Benue State for 8 years, 3rd term Senator and served as minority leader in the Senate and Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is the most qualified for the number one office of the APC.
‘Sen Akume is one politician with great exposure to advance democratic culture with highly influential politicians as friends and associates across Northern and Southern Nigeria.
“I hereby call on all APC card carrying members across the country to support George Akume so that he will continue to bring more innovative ideas for the benefit of the party and Nigerians", Akighir said.
Also, Akighir in a letter to the students' union representatives, Benue State University Chapter, Makurdi, solicit support for the minister charged them to look beyond sentiments but rather expedite prayers for Sen. Akume who he added is the most credible with impeccable leadership experiences.
He added that Akume’s choice will be easy to sell to members of the party due to the weight of experience he has garnered over the years. ‘’He is one politician with great exposure to advance democratic culture with highly influential politicians as friends and associates across Northern and Southern Nigeria’’.
