The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State Wednesday, May 10, 2023, suspended two former governorship aspirants, Senator Barnabas Gemade, Professor Terhemba Shija, and five others for anti-party activities.
The State Chairman of the Party, Comrade Austin Agada who announced the suspension of the duo and the five others yesterday during the party's expanded executive committee meeting in Makurdi disclosed that those suspended had worked with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to ensure that APC did not have a candidate following their rejection by the people at the primaries.
Comrade Agada explained that having failed in their initial mission they were still conniving with the PDP to frustrate the victory which the Benue people freely gave to the Governor-elect, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia.
He lamented a situation where Senator Gemade could not win even his polling unit in the just concluded elections, indicating clearly that he had worked with the PDP to frustrate the APC victory at the elections adding that even at the polls he was still sabotaging the interest of the party.
Comrade Agada pointed out that in the circumstances the party in the state could not fold its arms and watch few persons toy with its hard-earned victory in pursuit of their selfish interest to destroy the party.
The five others also suspended included the ward chairman of Mbawar, that of Iwarnyam and his deputy, the ward chairman of Mbatsen, all in Konshisha Local Government, as well as the APC Secretary in Obi Local Government.
They were also referred to the Fact-Finding and Disciplinary Committee.
The meeting was attended by all members of the state executive committee, all the 23 Local Government Party Chairmen, and all the 276 APC ward Chairmen in the state.
The Fact-Finding and Disciplinary Committee set up by the party has Hon. Chief Terlumun Akputu as Chairman, Dr Onma Ogenyi as Secretary, while other members of the Committee included Hon. Emmanuel Abba Yaro, Hon. James Tor, and Hon. Success Ajuma.
The party also accepted the nomination of Hon. Ada Ochejila by the people of Ohimini local government to fill in the position of Assistant State Secretary which became vacant due to the resignation of Hon. Musa Ohimini who had resigned from the position.
The State Congress also passed a vote of confidence on its Chairman Comrade Austin Agada.
