BSEMA Boss Applauded MSF For Its Health Intervention In IDP Camps

The Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Anodoakaa Iorpuu, has commended the Medicine San Frontiers (MSF) for its consistency in delivering health care services and other interventions to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in verious camps for their wellbeing.

The Ag. BSEMA ES stated this today Tuesday, 27th June 2023, while receiving the teams of Doctors Without Borders in his office at SEMA headquarters Makurdi.

Sir James Iorpuu said the Benue State Government led by Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, through SEMA office is committed to collaborate with humanitarian partners to meet the needs of IDPs and have no doubt that, together with International and Domestic partners as much more interventions will be directed to Persons of Concern especially the IDPs who are taking shelter in camps and host communities, assuring them of the State Government readiness to prioritize health care services to the Persons of Concern.

Earlier, the team lead on behalf of the team, Mr Almed Biral said, they have been in the Country since 1996, and he highlighted the challenges confronting the IDPs at Ortese camp as: limited SEMA staff on ground, the distance of health clinic in Hiirnyam which is three (3) kilometres away from Ortese, poor water supply and poor drainage system for the IDPs particularly at Ortese camp, and the issues of insecurity among others as they will continue its out patients activities in Ortese and primary health care services in Agagbe, Ichwa Mbawa and the host community.

Mr Abdukarim Rashid in his separate speech, appreciated the ES for his warm welcome and commended his achievements, assuring him of the transition plans of MSF is currently carrying out in both IDP in camps and host communities.

He added that the MSF is planning to downsize some of its activities in some IDPs camps.

While calling on State Government to fill in the gaps in other interventions activities, especially in the health care delivery services across the camps, he also called for monthly coordination meeting with stakeholders to enable them discuss challenges regarding the role each has to play in catering to Persons of Concern.
