Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia on his inauguration day on May 29, reaffirmed his willingness to put smiles on the faces of the good people of Benue State through people-driven governance.
He reassured civil servants and pensioners that he would clear the backlog of salaries, pensions and gratuities so that Benue State will begin the process of putting the foundation for better things to come.
He believes the processes of good governance have gone astray under the administration of Samuel Ortom and is determined to fix that. Specifically there is an erosion of transparency, independence and accountability which have made the people of Benue State to lost hope in the government, but he has come to renew our hope and reignite it to shine be so that we will finds reasons to become lovers of our beloved state.
Gov. Alia said good governance, safety, a chance to grow economically and professionally - those are some of the important things his government will take as top priorities.
According to him, corruption is the enemy of development, and of good governance. It must be got rid of. Both the government and the people at large must come together to achieve this progressive objective.
The backbone of any improvement of governance, its development as well as its protection from any form of wastage or excessiveness, is a mechanism to place laws under the microscope of revision and modernization until they resonate in tune with the methodological development and new administrative technologies. Gov. Alia will ensure this happens.
If someone thinks that education, health, infrastructure all are different sectors and issues and they ought to be fought independently, then they are mistaken. Alia believes that there is an underlying pattern in the process and they must be revitalised with the urgency required to begin the process of transforming Benue State.
Gov. Alia believes that governance is about giving Benue people an opportunity to engage with him on subjects that they are responsible for, believing in their capacity to deliver, and allowing them that platform to project their work for the benefit of all.
