The Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir. James Iorpuu on Monday June 19, 2023 interfaced with a team of United High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC) in his office.
The UNHCR's team who had earlier held a close door meeting with Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia also visited the new Acting ES BSEMA to congratulate him as thank him for taking his time to visit refuges settlement in Ikyogen, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Speaking, the team lead Mr.Tesfaye Bekede, Head of Sub Office UNHCR - Ogoja appreciates the Acting ES on his open door policy, informing him about their activities in refugees and IDPs camps in Benue State.
He thanked the SEMA and expressed that both the Head of Sub Office, Ogoja and Field Office in Makurdi will strengthen their partnership with BSEMA, calling for stronger coordination meeting with humanitarian partners.
Responding, the Acting SEMA boss, Sir James Iorpuu, thanked them for the visit.
He said that his tour to IDPs camps across Benue State and Refugees settlement had offered him opportunity to ascertain the challenges facing the IDPs and the Cameroonian Refugees.
He also commended the UNHCR for their numerous intervention to the Persons of Concern, increasing number of internally displaced
Sir James Iorpuu while decrying the poor condition of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in all the camps he visited reiterated his commitment repositioning the agency for optimal performance, even as assure the UNHCR and other humanitarian partners of effective partnership.
