The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) in conjunction with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees Migrants (UNHCR), today Thursday, 22nd June 2023 held a coordination meeting with Humanitarian organisations in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area.
The Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Sir James Anodoakaa Iorpuu, in his warm welcome remarks, appreciated all humanitarian partners who have being rendering services to Cameroonian Refugees, calling on them to sustain their consistency in providing the needed support to Persons of Concern until peace returns to Cameroon.
Sir James Iorpuu also expressed his readiness to improve collaboration between the Agency and humanitarian organisations in the State, comprising mostly of International Agency and domestic partners assisting both the Ikyogen Refugees settlement and IDPs in the State.
He emphasized on effective and quick information sharing between his Agency and partners would help him succeed, insisting that SEMA office is open for any discussion that would bring innovative ideas that would reforms the Agency.
On his part, representative of the Kwande Local Government Council, Mr Cornelius Kor, appreciated the humanitarian partners for the sacrifices being rendered to the Cameronean Refugees and assured them of adequate security through out their stay in Kwande Local Government.
Adikpo Field Office Mr Sunday Shawuru commended the Benue State Government and the field workers for their support to the Refugees and other Persons of Concern.
Mr. Shawuru added that the Commissioner will soon visit Benue to interact with the new Executive Secretary to draw up plans on how to address the Emergency situations in the State.
During the meeting, achievements and challenges relating to humanitarian activities were discussed as well as challenges facing the humanitarian organisations in the Refugees settlement were identified and suggestions were made.
Humanitarian partners/stakeholders at the meeting including National Commission for Refugees Migrants and IDPs (NCRMI), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Save the Children Internation (SCI) Foundation for Justice Development and Peace (FJDP) RHEMA CARE and CUSO International, after making their reports on the various activities/interventions under review and challenges were called upon to present their findings on Gender Based Violence (GBV), shelter construction, registration and documentation of Refugees, border monitoring, psychosocial support, and detention monitoring, health care WASH, education and livelihood among others.
