BIRS Meets With The Ministry Of Land, Survey And Solid Minerals; Seeks Legal Framework To Enforce Land Laws

The Acting Chairman Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mr.Emmanuel Agema and his team met with the management team of Ministry of Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals to deliberate on possible ways to increase the Revenue of the state as regards certification of lands and payments of Ground Rents.

The Ministry of Land, Survey and solid Minerals is responsible for administering land for mutual use and benefit of all citizens of Benue State.The Ministry issues Certificates of Occupancy to individuals, businesses or organisations. While the collection of revenue generated, are done by the Benue State Internal Revenue Service.

Recall that, The Benue State Government slashed land fee by 50% to encourage residents to regularise their land titles. The BIRS Chairman Mr. Emmanuel Agema, in his statement maintained that he seeks a legal framework  from the Ministry of Land, Survey and Solid Minerals through its Legal department to take legal measures for enforcement and ensure compliance of individuals, business and organisations with land titles. Therefore, encouraging the public to make use of the 50%Slash which in turn generates internal revenue for development of the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Land Survey and Solid Minerals, TDL.Adah Steven Terlumun suggested that a committee should be formed between his legal team and some members of the BIRS team inorder to synergies and work out modalities for implementation of this law.
