Baiwa And The Politics Of Decorum in Nigeria

By Abubakar Yusuf

Nigerian politics with it's attendants all comers affairs, had some level of decency or it's actors temperament varies from one situations to the other.

For Hajia Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma, the former APC National Woman Leader, is coming from another angle entirely with strong believe in the politics of development, advancement, and transformation not of the actors alone, but the entire country.

Therefore, from her wealth of experience from the wholly private sector crowned with public service resume, anchored on transparency and administrative wizardry, the former National Woman Leader combined all these into the political fortune of the All Progressives Congress APC since 2015, soon before and after he left the public service to join active politics.

In active politics , the former National Woman Leader adopted a sane approach towards political decisions and mobilisation, but in her character left an indelible mark on the sands of time during her stint.

She ensured that aside the global requirements along domesticated desires , women were given a crucial role to play after the extensive mobilisation of women during and after the 2015 and actively the 2019 general elections, that saw the APC winning with a landslide victory.

As the point woman of all Nigerian women, and rallying point, Hajia Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma ensured a significant roles for women and extensive mobilisation that saw them playing a leading role in that dispensation.

She recommended and made position  for women inclusion both at State, National and international level and supports, that saw the UNGA making a declarative position in the 74th General Assembly.

Baiwa who represented the women presented a position paper for more attention to the women at the global level, and at the national level.

This made adequate representation at the 2019 government of Former President Muhammadu Buhari , when she led the women on a visit to the Presidency with a plea to include them on the Boards of Federal Agency which was obliged.

Women representation at the Executive and Board of Agencies, Departments, Parastatals  and Ministries saw alot of women that made wave towards the end of the Buhari administration, and even in the present dispensation.

As a strong advocate of women emancipation, Baiwa having participated actively in the last general elections of 2023 , also strongly recommended women inclusion in the current dispensation but particularly on merit.

With high level tolerance, two subsequent former National Woman Leader of APC that served after her tern in office, was appointed as Minister Designates to her elation , even with glaring decisions taken at the top echelon of the party.

Traditionally, she was supposed to be the next Minister in order of heirarchy, but unperturbed by the current situations and as a strong party woman, she took the decision of the new government in the interest of the country.

Having served diligently and made series of recommendations on behalf of the women folk, her strong believe in the dynamic of politics and political development, saw the whole exercise as in the best interest of the ruling party and Nigerians.

Her rare acceptance and decisions, had portrayed another approach to a sane and prosperous political development Nigeria desires.

Her disposition and reward for party loyalty many not be immediate, but will come not later than expected in line with the sane democratic practices and party norms.

But, since politics is all about reward system, for a political enigma like Hajia Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma, the Former National Woman Leader of All Progressives Congress APC should be considered now than later.

No doubt, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had the political wisdom to carry along dedicated political juggernauts, that had sustained the party to the current level of progress, as a stich in time , therefore saves nine.
