The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has hailed the Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir. James Aondoakaa Iorpuu for his proactive intervention on disasters in the State, through awareness creation and sensitization.
The NEMA team were in Makurdi yesterday Thursday, 12th October 2023, to ascertain the volume of water and also partner with State Government to ensure that, the affected persons get support from Central Government.
Speaking during the assessment tour on some residents living along the river banks, the North Central Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Eugene Nyelong said the tour of selected States including Benue that are predicted to be affected by flood was to get first hand information about the damage impact.
The Team Lead/North Central Coordinator specifically hailed the BSEMA ES for a high sense of transparency and accountability in their entire operations.
Giving update on the flood, the Acting ES, Sir. James Iorpuu said the aim of the tour was to monitor and assess the water level in preparation for the alerts flooding in Benue State which 8 local Government Areas will be affected.
The BSEMA boss commended the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Iormem Alia for taken a proactive measures to reduce the impact of flood through setting up the Emergency Flood Committee to work with other high level stakeholders for immediate action to mitigate the impact of flood as well as support the affected persons.
