The House of Representatives member representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, has given an account of his stewardship since his assumption of office barely six months ago.
The young philanthropist turned politician today, December 28, 2023, rolled out loads of his achievements and the efforts he has been making to reinvent Badagry Federal Constituency for development at a breakfast media pally in his home at Ibereko, Badagry, where he hosted high-profile media personalities in the corridor of Badagry.
At the media chat attended by News Proof's senior editor, Mr. Gbedozin Elijah Akonasu, the MHR said he has been able to secure the reconstruction of some major roads in Badagry. He said these roads' construction will commence next year, as they have already been captured in the 2024 appropriation bill. He also mentioned that he has facilitated the construction of buildings in some schools across the three local councils in Badagry.
Hon. Sesi revealed that he belongs to over twelve committees at the National Assembly. Prominent among those committees is the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), where he is the Deputy Chairman. Other committees he listed to belong to are the committees on public service, customs, basic education, and border communities, among others. Prince Sesi said he carefully chose these committees, as they are committees that will benefit his constituents. He particularly mentioned education and his passion to ensure that no child in Badagry Federal Constituency is denied basic education.
In the media conversation, the MHR revealed that he has sponsored over eleven bills that have been listed for second reading in the House of Representatives. He said those bills are relevant bills that will deepen our national institutions and foster development in Nigeria.
Sesi reiterated his commitment to the development of Badagry and meaningful empowerment for his constituents. He revealed that the kind of empowerment he intends to do for the people of Badagry is one that will be sustainable and largely benefit the beneficiaries. According to him, to attain this, he would ensure that he obtained the necessary data on individuals and that they were empowered with what would actually empower them effectively.
Other efforts he mentioned he is making to influence Badagry are the establishment of a maritime university, adequate funding from the Administration Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON; listing Lagos State as an oil-producing state and member of the Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC; federal government scholarships; and massive federal employment, to mention a few.
On youth empowerment, Honorable Sesi said he is already working on the establishment of a tech hub in Badagry, where youths could acquire highly paid tech job skills that will make them highly competitive in the global job markets both home and abroad.
