When the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), his aim was to become the governor of Benue State so that he would deliver the good people of Benue State from the dungeon of neglect of civil servants, pensioners and development.
He abhors abysmal and amorphous governance which had adverse effects on the good people of Benue State in the past. As a result, he has taken into cognizance the welfare of Benue civil servants and pensioners as one of his top priorities.
The people of Benue State call him "Mr. 25th" because of his prompt payment of salaries and pensions on the 25th of every month. When 25th falls on Saturday or Sunday, the payment is made on 24th or 23rd.
Gov. Alia with his consistent payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities has exposed the callousness of those who deliberately subject civil servants and pensioners to perpetual sufferings and excruciating pains.
With the payment of salaries and pensions on 25th of every month including numerous ongoing projects in the state, Alia is already setting the standard for his successor after he might have completed his two terms in office in 2031.
What Alia has achieved in less than one year of his administration has evinced that by the time he completes his first term, Benue state will be significantly transformed while his second term will take Benue State to unprecedented heights.
Anyone who has the intention to succeed Alia as governor in 2031 will have to maintain the 25th payment because when the payment of salaries and pensions is consistent on the 25th of every month for 8 years and civil servants including pensioners are used to it, coming on board as a governor to change it by giving excuses would lead to public resentment.
