Appeals to Government and NGOs to Invest in Women
Former member of the House of Representatives for Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency in Benue State, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Dorathy Mato has extolled Nigerian women for their determination to succeed and make tremendous impact on their respective communities against all odds.
Mato made this known yesterday during an interview with journalists on the biennial convention of National Council for Women's Societies (NCWS) held in Abuja with the theme: Invest In Women and Accelerate Progress.
Hon. Mato appealed to all levels of government to take the initiatives and aspirations of women as top priorities to place them on the wheels of transformation and development so that they would explore the frontiers of academic, economic and financial knowledge and be empowered to contribute momentously to repositioning Nigeria for the benefit of all.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu was represented by the First Lady of Imo State, Chioma Uzodinma who stressed the importance of individuals, the corporate sector, and Dev partners in bolstering governmental initiatives to invest in women.
The President of the National Council for Women's Societies, NCWS Hajia Lami Lau said that despite the contribution the womenfolk in the society, they continue to face barriers that impede their full participation and hinder progress.
National Council of Women's Societies, also known by its acronym NCWS, is a Nigerian non-governmental and non-partisan women's organization composed of a network of independent women organizations in Nigeria binding together to use NCWS' platform to advocate gender welfare issues to the government and society.
Mato was at the convention with Hon. Mrs. Pauline Tallen, former Minister of Women Affairs; Mrs. Dennis Akura, wife of the Special Advisor to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Mrs Phillip Achua, wife of Konshisha LG Chairman amongst others.
