The Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC has devised series of programs to improve learning crises in Nigeria, particularly at the Basic Education level were inculcation of learning by pupils had become insurmountable.
The commission through the convergence of stakeholders, using workshops, talk shops, seminars, symposiums and in house orientation had devised and proposed many solutions into resolving the lingering national issue.
Since solutions to sustaining the template of impacting Basic Education on the pupil desire multifarious approach, the quest to sustain the tempo cannot be overemphasized.
Aside , the divergent policy framework introduced by the commission, it has adopted the local and traditional mode to assimilate the desired learning mode at the basic level.
For the attainment of quality Basic Education, the need to operate within the demands of SDGs 4 in line with the global requirements of decades of action of 2020-2030 agenda, the commission needed to exploit all avenues that will guarantee Basic Education in the country.
Hence both the local and international agencies, like the NBS and UNICEF among others had synergized to achieve the common goal of impacting Basic Education in pupils, through the introduction of 'mother tongue' in all it's activities at the Basic level.
Though, the scourge of not understanding Basic Education using the official language have militated against understanding message or to even solve simple Mathematics, therefore 'mother tongue' will be a leeway.
Under the leadership of Dr Hamid Bobboyi, the commission has resolved to attend to the situation through series of interventions that trickled down to the use of local language, 'The Mother Tongue.'
The positive development of deploying 'mother tongue' will assist greatly through the multiple approach of using the instructional materials, language to address poor teaching, insufficient parental guidance, and lackadaisical attitude from stakeholders at the state level.
With its determination, the commission's efforts at coordinating ideas and deploying it to the preparation of roadmaps that will drive the new template and policy is sancrosanct.
Along with others sister agencies and Education stakeholders, it had also used the National Language Policy 2022 decision to achieve the desired results through the use of 'mother tongue' to improve Basic Education.
The dogged efforts by the commission, harnessing both local and official template to drive the new policy will resolve the lingering and difficulties in impacting Basic Education in pupils particularly from primary 1-6.
The positive development is expected to benchmark learning crises prevalent in Basic Education across the country.
