One of the three House of Representatives members from Kogi state and from Kogi East, Rt Hon. David Idris Zacharias, is a ranking member who is representing Idah, Ibaji, Igala mela , and Ofu federal constituency, at the green chamber .
His first appearance was in the 9th House between 2019-2023 were he performed creditably well and was reelected for the 10th House in 2023 general elections, a situation that was rare in the history of the federal constituency.
At the inauguration of the 10th House in June , 2023 , Zacharias was appointed as Chairman, House committee on Federal Capital Territory FCT Judiciary, a situation he accepted with mix feelings considering tue sensitive nature of the committee and his intentions to achieve greatly during his stint.
Aside his committee assignments, plenary , oversights and adhoc committee activities, his vision and mission for his constituents was a corollary to the success story he achieved in his first term, hence his determination to improve upon it .
Zacharias was also appointed as a member of Petroleum (mid stream), Navy, Oil and Gas, Foreign affairs, Petroleum Resources (Up FCC stream), FCT, Banking Regulation, Delegated Legislation, Petroleum training Fund, Special duties, women affairs and power.
With chairmanship of FCT Judiciary committee including other critical government parastatals, he was positioned to work not only for the constituents, but development of the country in all areas.
One year down the line, the federal lawmaker has again proved his mettle and leadership acumen displayed in the previous four years of the 9th Assembly, that was already desiring his re-election in the forthcoming 11th House that is far away in 2027.
This unarguably was dependent on his short stint achievements that included in the area of Health, Education, provision of pipe borne water , renewable energy and electricity, including social services, empowerment, capacity building/training and employment opportunities.
To ensure quality health care and stable basic and secondary education, he provided drugs worth millions to different hospitals, clinics and primary health care centers as well as renovated cottage hospitals in Ejule, Alloma, along others in the federal constituency.
In the area of Education as one of the core of social services, he provided for the payment of WAEC and NECO for the secondary school students of the federal constituency across board not taken cognizance of any criteria, including the distribution of over 200 Jamb forms to selected ones and distributed Books, Biros, Tables ans Chairs to basic schools pupils in the constituency.
He provided renewable energy (solar street lights)to rejig security across the constituency with 2,000 streetlights and provided electricity through extension of light to various communities.
Rt Hon Zacharias also extended the construction of boreholes to all nooks and crannies particularly to forestall the acute water shortages, that was prevalent across the constituency.
He also provided job opportunities to several unemployed people across the federal constituency, which included the Navy, Air Force, Police, Army, facilitation of Law School admissions and employment into FCT Judicial Service Commission among many others.
In the area of infrastructure development, the grading and modernization of Owowolo road, facilitation of Ochadamu to ogedebeje junction road repairs and maintenance that was a death trap was timely rehabilitated through his appeal to the federal government.
He was unrelenting in his giant strides towards instilling a lasting legacy in the area of empowerment, capacity building and training as well as development particularly for women and youths who are more vulnerable in the society by training and providing start up packs.
Financial supports and engagements worth over 60 million for women that are engaged in petty trading and activities across the constituency.
With this efforts of Rt Hon. Zacharias' and commitment to improving the lives of his constituents through comprehensive and targeted interventions in various sectors.
The positive development displayed in the last one year was enough parameter to be used in measuring successes in a modern and modest society.
