The National Assembly Management has informed the National Assembly Legislative Aides’ Forum (NASSLAF) of strict security measures to be implemented around the National Assembly complex due to a planned nationwide protest starting August 1, 2024. The measures aim to ensure the safety and security of staff, legislative aides, and visitors amidst the anticipated demonstrations.
Key Security Measures:
1. Restricted Entry*: Only authorized personnel, including NASS staff, legislative aides, and essential service workers, will be allowed entry into the complex. This restriction aims to prevent unauthorized access and maintain a secure environment.
2. Heavy Security Deployment: A significant security presence will be visible around the National Assembly complex to deter potential disruptions and ensure a peaceful environment.
3. ID Card Requirement: All individuals seeking entry into the complex must present their valid identification cards. This measure ensures that only authorized personnel gain access to the premises.
4. Visitor Restrictions: Legislative aides are advised against bringing visitors to the National Assembly complex during the protest period. Members of the National Assembly are also encouraged to limit the number of visitors to minimize potential risks.
5. Limited Access Points: Entry into the complex will be restricted to the main gate only. This measure streamlines security checks and prevents unauthorized access through alternative entry points.
6. Cooperation with Security Agents: Legislative aides are advised to cooperate fully with Sergeant-at-Arms and security agents during security checks. This collaboration ensures a smooth and secure entry process.
7. Optional Work Attendance: Legislative aides are not required to report to work during the first 10 days of the protest if they feel unsafe or sense danger. This measure prioritizes their safety and well-being.
8. Suspended Bus Services: The NASSLAF and PASAN bus services will be suspended during the initial period of the protest until the situation stabilizes.
The National Assembly Management urges legislative workers to exercise caution and vigilance during the protest period, prioritizing their safety above all else. By implementing these measures, the Management aims to ensure a secure environment for all stakeholders involved.
