Free Basic Education: Alimosho's SBMC, LGEA Take Campaign for Pupil Registration to the Streets

By Dansu Peter

In a bid to boost school enrollment for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic session, officials from the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) and the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) have taken to the streets to encourage parents and guardians to register their children for free basic education.

The awareness campaign was observed in several locations, including the bustling streets of Egbeda, Ikotun Oke-odo, Igando and Alimosho. Officials from both the SBMC and LGEA were seen actively engaging with the public and urging parents to take advantage of the free registration and tuition from kindergarten (KG) classes to Primary 5.

The officials emphasized that the registration process is entirely free, part of an ongoing effort by the Lagos State government to ensure that every child has access to quality education without financial barriers. They highlighted the importance of early education in shaping the future of children, particularly those from underprivileged communities.

"The future of our children starts with a solid foundation, and this initiative ensures that every child can have access to that foundation, irrespective of their family's financial standing," a representative from the LGEA stated during the campaign.

As the 2024/2025 academic session approaches, the SBMC and LGEA have called on parents to seize the opportunity to enroll their children in public schools, stressing the Lagos State government's commitment to improving the quality of education and facilities in the region. The campaign has been widely applauded as a proactive approach to increasing literacy rates and reducing the number of out-of-school children in the area.

This street-level outreach is part of a broader collaborative strategy by the two educational bodies to ensure widespread awareness and access to free basic education across Lagos State, aligning with the Lagos State Government's educational goals and policies for the year.
