South West Development Commission Bill Passed, Kabo To Get Police Service Commission Institute

On Thursday, 27th, September, 2024 during the sitting I presided over, six bills scaled first reading, including the Police Service Commission Institute Kabo (Establishment) bill.

The bill, sponsored by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Malam-Madori (Jigawa East), would soon be listed for a second reading.

Establishing the institute is part of our efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force (NPC) for effective country policing.

Also, the South West Development Commission (SWDC) Establishment Bill was passed for a third reading.

The passage follows the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Special Duties.Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (APC, Borno), said the bill's intent was well structured for the socioeconomic development of the South West Geopolitical Zone.

While commending the committee for a job well done, I pointed out that the commission when established will address the infrastructural and ecological challenges in the South West geopolitical zone.

I noted that the essence of the various development commissions being set up, is to fast track development of the entire country. I commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the North West and South East Development Commissions and I expressed optimism that he would assent to the South West Development Commission.
