HE Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia's Giant Leap In The War Against Insecurity In Benue State

It is common knowledge that security is the priority of any serious government. It is a secured people that guarantees a developed nation. Nothing works with insecurity. Security is therefore a non-negotiable part of a government with focus and good intent for the people. 

Benue has suffered heavily in the last 12 years and literally collapsed under the weight of insecurity. What began like the outburst of some disgruntled elements became the destruction path of a sinking state. Countless lives were lost, Farm lands were abandoned, children dropped out of schools that ultimately became camping grounds for IDPs, the economy took a downturn and the state became chaotic. 

However, since the assumption of office, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia began a search for a lasting solution to the issues affecting security in the state. Stakeholder consultations and meetings with communities and interactions with security chiefs became a daily routine in the activities of the governor. He began to identify and implement solutions to curb insecurity in the state. Governor Alia's launch of a security outfit and distribution of vehicles to security operatives last week is one of such solutions to Benue's security challenges. The launch marks a significant milestone in the fight against insecurity in Benue State. This bold move demonstrates the governor's commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of Benue people, acknowledging the pressing need for enhanced security measures.

The security outfit, comprising 5,000 gallant officers christened Benue State Civil Protection Guards will complement the efforts of existing security agencies, in tackling security challenges more effectively. This localized approach allows for better understanding and addressing of community-specific issues, fostering trust and cooperation between security personnel and residents.

The distribution of 100 operational vehicles and 600 special combatant motorcycles to security agencies is a crucial aspect of this initiative. Mobility is essential for effective law enforcement, enabling rapid response times and efficient patrols. This investment in logistics will enhance operational efficiency, allowing security personnel to cover more ground and respond swiftly to emergencies. 

The Launch of the operation "Anyam Nyor" meaning the arrival of tiger, will foster collaboration amongst security operatives and send a clear signal to criminals that the Alia administration means business and is ready to handle insecurity headlong. It must be noted that beyond security, the creation of the security outfit will also have economic benefits, providing direct employment opportunities for 5,000 youths and the many indirect benefits. This injection of jobs will stimulate local economies, contributing to the state's overall economic growth and development.

It is instructive to note that Governor Alia's initiative promotes community engagement and trust, which are very essential components of successful security strategies. By involving local youths in security efforts, the governor fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, encouraging residents to collaborate with security agencies.

There is no denying the fact that there may be challenges but while challenges may arise, Governor Alia's security initiative presents opportunities for  capacity Building,  Enhancing the skills and expertise of security personnel, intelligence Gathering, Improving information sharing and coordination between security agencies. 
It also brings about Community Policing,  Strengthening relationships between security personnel and residents, Crime Prevention, Proactive measures to prevent crimes and maintain law and order.

Therefore, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia's inauguration of the security outfit, Benue state civil protection guards, Launch of a joint security task force "Anyam Nyor" and distribution of vehicles and combatant motorcycles to security operatives,  demonstrates his commitment to addressing insecurity in Benue State without reservations. This comprehensive approach has the potential to enhance security, stimulate economic growth, and foster community engagement. As the state moves forward, it is essential to monitor progress, address challenges, and build on successes to ensure a safer, more prosperous Benue State which is the collective responsibility of one and all.
