Nigeria Has Moved Beyond You, Group Slams Atiku

Nigeria Has Moved Beyond You, Group Slams Atiku

By Dansu Peter

The Proactive Coalition of Nigerians (PROCON) has condemned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's persistent interference in Nigeria's democratic process.

According to PROCON, Atiku's recent policy advice to President Bola Tinubu is a desperate attempt to revive his failed campaign.

In a statement signed by its national president David Onuh, PROCON criticized Atiku's outdated ideas, advocating for subsidy removal without addressing structural issues, and prioritizing profits over people.

He said Nigerians rejected Atiku's leadership style in the 2023 elections, recognizing its incompatibility with national progress.

The coalition praised President Tinubu's vision for social advancement, inclusivity, regional unity, and economic diversification.

PROCON urged Atiku to respect the democratic process and allow the current government to implement its vision.

“The choice of Asiwaju over Atiku was a collective effort by Nigeria populace which is evident to the fact that Atiku’s brand of leadership was not only unfit for Nigeria’s present challenges, but it also carried many risks of selfish interests over the  national good,” the statement said.

“Atiku who had previously held the second-highest office in this country, had his tenure so much left to be desired. It was one that spiraled from many controversies over policy decisions, and to questionable alliances, making his legacy looking contentious.

“This his blatant attempts to reassert himself into the national dialogue with claims that the government should adopt his manifesto exposes a disconnect between his selfish priorities and the needs of the citizens.

“We are sorry to tell him that, Nigerians moved past his vision for a reason, and his latest appeals will not resonate with a public that has already weighed his leadership style and found it lacking, let alone to be considered.

“Nigeria is obviously better off without Atiku if one of its most seasoned elders and past presidents ever declined to support him at any point in time.

“Atiku’s drive for privatization is a risky venture which is believed to prioritize profits over people. Being known for who he his, it is evident that Our natural resources would be privatized to Atiku’ himself through proxy means, and others would be in the hands of his allies, in a deceitful presentation as a route to efficiency and Advancement which would end in no fruition.

“We all know that a sale of national resources frequently concentrates them in the hands of a few number of people, which disadvantages affect regular Nigerians. Atiku stance on selling Nigeria’s refineries and other infrastructures would have obviously converted public resources into private assets, leaving the populace at the expense of a full private manipulation.

“With this knowledge that his manifesto and track record are heavily focused on privatization, notably of Nigeria’s refineries and other national assets, the majority swiftly rejected his Presidential aspiration in 2023. With this decision, Nigerian unanimously avoided creating a nation that would surely become more divided and resentful.

“Having a leader with so much obsession with oil as the foundation of Nigeria economy is a catastrophic flaw in any strategy. In an era where every economies are already diversifying and shifting to sustainable industries, technology, and renewable energy, Atiku’s focus is one which betrays a lack of understanding on the full potential Nigeria’s economy has.

“No one is moved by the manipulative political tactics by Atiku Abubakar any longer. Nigerians already made it clear at the polling units that they don’t agree with his views and ideals, and wouldn’t want him on the presidential seat.

“Firmly based on an antiquated form government, it is obvious that his strategy is incompatible with the goals of a country aiming for econmic innovation, equity, national relevance, and growth. Nigerians no longer desire leaders who still uphold outdated ideas of power in the present changed political trajectory. Atiku’s action embodies an era where political elites profiting was prioritized over  the growth and advancement of National populace.

“The Proactive Coalition of Nigerians is convinced that there are valid worries that Nigeria might have returned to a course of nepotism and cronyism if Atiku had been elected by Nigerians. With the climate of suspicion surrounding Atiku's political ambitions because of his troubled past and dubious ties, he is to be distrusted rather than trusted, and therefore needs to be ignored by Nigerians and the Presidency.

“Understanding these dangers of having a choice of Atiku, Nigerians already made the prudent decision to back Tinubu's presidency in order to prevent them. It would have been brutal and detrimental to Nigeria to have a president whose goals are not in line with those of the people, but it's a blessing that Tinubu is far more suited to lead the country than Atiku because he possesses the vision, accountability, and sincere dedication in leading the country right despite the inherited problems and challenges being faced.

“Now under Asiwaju leadership, things have changed from how it used to be. The president has demonstrated an awareness of the necessity in making investments related to Nigeria’s future, one which is in contrast to Atiku’s thought and actions.

“President Tinubu has reflected a vision which encompassed  social advancement, inclusivity, regional unity, and economic diversification. In a wise comparison, while Tinubu's ideas stand to benefit the present and future generations, Atiku's proposals are focused on short-term advantages that frequently benefit a small number of elites, and not even sustainable for the present generation.

“It is important to note that, the 2023 decision Nigerians made was motivated by their desire for a leader who is honest, accept responsibility for his actions, and is dedicated to the development of the country. Atiku Abubakar must understand that Nigerians have already moved on from his rejected outmoded ideologies and self-serving ambition.

“Hence, demanding  that the government embrace his platform is very disrespectful of the people's choice, and he needs to sit down in Dubai quietly till his next routine of Presidential campaign. We are focused on the future, not the past, and Atiku's political style is just obsolete.

“The days of profit-driven governance and self-serving agendas are finished. Nigerians demand leaders who are willing to strive for the common good, who prioritize the country's interests before their own, and who welcome economic diversity. In these difficult times, Nigeria needs this dedication to a resilient and egalitarian economy.”

UBEC / NCDMB Strategic Partnership; Moving Basic Education From Blackboard To Smart Board

UBEC / NCDMB Strategic Partnership; Moving Basic Education From Blackboard To Smart Board

By Abubakar Yusuf

The efforts of the leadership of two prominent government agencies , the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC and Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board NCDMB is the desire to move the country from analogue to digital era in line with the global trend, but also to address essentially the scourge of Out of School Children OOSC that was becoming a norm inspite concerted efforts by the commission.

Since Basic Education is the foundation to all levels of Education to be acquired by our pupils and students , the moves could be regarded as timely and desiring in the current dispensation.

The partnership and the concept of collaboration between UBEC and NCDMB consummated through a Memorandum of Understanding MOU is a spring board towards containing permanently not only the scourge of Out of School Children OOSC, but wholistic migration of the system from the old order to the new digital technology.

with the consummation driven by the current technological advancement and disposition with focus on Smart Schools and Education at the Basic Education level , it is glaringly obvious , that aside out of school children OOSC, Infrastructural development and rejuvenation, administrative reorientation and advancement, robust policy framework and thrust , and competitive approach towards Basic Education development in Nigeria became imperative.

With UBEC having laid a solid foundation for digitization and technological advancement with the creation of 37 Smart Schools spread across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory FCT,  which included all the six geopolitical zones and the establishment of the state of the art Digital Resource Centre (DRC), for seamless interconnectivity, trainings, capacity building driven by new global program of digitization and technological breakthrough.

The robust foundation that brought about synergy between two government agencies with one having the financial flare of intervention has open a new chapter of more collaboration between other government agencies, the private sector and organizations , as well as well to do individuals to key into the development of Basic Education spanned from the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) to Senior Secondary Schools (SSS).

It is also an eye opener for other high profile government agencies and the private entities like the NNPCL, NMDPRA, NUPRC, NPA, NIMASA, CBN, TETFUND , NSPMC, PENCOM, NSITF, ITF, FIRS among many others including Multinational oil companies to key into the needed collaboration so as to broker similar Memorandum of Understanding MOU with Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC,  to expand the scope of management of Basic Education beyond government sponsorship and attention.

Having discovered the scope of coverage by the NCDMB to access rural areas and communities, no doubt, the impact of the new policy of technology impact/ transfer will attract uniform approach both at the urban and rural communities in the country.

With focus on the vulnerable areas of the North, South, South East and the West of Lagos state with special attention due to high population figure and coverage , as well as more infrastructure and manpower to accelerate Basic Education and Out of School Children OOSC constraints.

The NCDMB - UBEC Smart Schools Development Initiative  tagged NUSSDI , a new collaboration that is capable of bringing to fruition robust policy on Basic Education and removing the intricacies of problems and difficulties towards the development of a well articulated learning process and outcomes in the country.

The convening of the Memorandum of Understanding MOU under the leadership of Dr Hamid Bobboyi as the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC was another improvement to impacting Basic Education on Nigerians at that level.

Heat Transfer Enhancement on Staggered Perforated Circular Pin-Fin Heat Sink:AnExperimental AssessmentNdah Abdulrahman Alpha And Aondoyila Kuhe

Heat Transfer Enhancement on Staggered Perforated Circular Pin-Fin Heat Sink:AnExperimental AssessmentNdah Abdulrahman Alpha And Aondoyila Kuhe

Abstract.

This experimental study examines how forced convective flow affects heat transfer
properties in a rectangular channel with staggered pin fins featuring different perfo-
ration patterns under constant heat flux conditions across Reynolds numbers (Re)
ranging from 2.0 103
to 12 103

. The study compares cylindrical pin fins with solid
pin fins and those featuring circular longitudinal (L), longitudinal/transverse (LT),
and longitudinal/transverse/vertical (LTV) perforations to determine optimal perfo-
ration configurations for enhanced heat transfer performance. The experiment uses a
Peltier module to generate heat on one side, utilizing the Armfield Free and Forced
Convection Heat Transfer Service Units HT 19 and HT10XC. The results showed that
perforated pins significantly raise Nusselt number (Nu) over solid pins: 7% for L, 30%
for LT, and 64% for LTV perforations. Pressure drops are reduced by 10% for L, 17%
for LT, and 25% for LTV perforations relative to solid pins. At lower Reynolds num-
bers, the overall enhancement ratio peaks, notable for reaching a 40% rise with LTV-
perforated pin fins. Additionally, fin effectiveness improves significantly: 14, 34, and
57% higher for L, LT, and LTV perforated pin-fin arrays, respectively. This study
showcases potential applications in electronic cooling systems, promising improved
heat transfer efficiency.
Keywords: pin-fin heat sink, Peltier module, perforation pattern, heat transfer
coefficient, electronic cooling
1. Introduction
The relentless push for higher performance in microelectronics, coupled with the
drive for miniaturization, has made efficient thermal management a paramount concern
in modern electronic design.

As electronic devices become more compact and powerful,
the ability to dissipate heat effectively is crucial to ensuring their performance, reliabil-
ity, and longevity. The relationship between component temperature and the opera-
tional efficacy of electronic devices is well established–lower temperatures generally
equate to better performance and a longer lifespan for these components.Heat sinks play a critical role in managing the thermal loads of electronic devices.
By facilitating heat transfer from heat-generating components, heat sinks help main-
tain temperatures within safe operating limits. The challenge lies in designing heat
sinks that not only efficiently dissipate heat but also fit within the increasingly
constrained spaces of modern electronics.
Perforated fins are especially effective at improving heat transfer because of their
greater ratio of surface area to volume, resulting in lighter heat sinks and more
uniform temperature distribution compared to solid fins. Research consistently shows
that heat sinks with perforated pin-fins outperform those with solid pin-fins in terms
of thermal efficiency [1–5]. Studies on various pin-fin configurations further under-
score these findings [6–10].
Additional studies have further underscored the advantages of specific perforation
geometry. Ibrahim et al. [11] highlighted the benefits of triangular perforations in
reducing pressure drop and increasing the Nusselt number, while Chingulpitak et al.
[12] noted that enlarging both the quantity and size of perforations in pin-fins results
in better thermal performance.
Chin et al. [1] demonstrated that perforations enhance convection heat
transmission by 45% and reduce pressure drop by 18% compared to solid pins.

Moreover, perforations reduce the heat sink’s weight by 37%, improving overall
heat transfer. Kore et al. [13] found that conical perforations in pin-fin heat
sinks significantly enhance flow turbulence and heat transmission. According to
Gupta et al. [14], circular perforations improve thermohydraulic performance by
28%, with a temperature reduction of approximately 16 K when using
square-shaped perforations.
Other studies have investigated the effects of varying perforation sizes and quan-
tities on the efficiency of heat sinks. Choure et al. [15] found that enlarging both the
quantity and diameter of perforations leads to a reduced pressure drop and an
enhancement in the Nusselt number. Foo et al. [16] found that perforated pin-fin
arrays, subjected to varying inlet velocities, transfer more heat and experience a lower
pressure drop compared to solid pin arrays.
Hayder et al. [17] examined the influence of pin geometry on thermal efficiency,
concluding that round pin fins facilitate better heat transfer than those with sharp
edges. Similarly, Kotcioglu et al. [18] discovered that circular pin fins demonstrate a
lower pressure drop in comparison with hexagonal or square pin fins. Hwang et al.
[19] proposed a thermal optimization model demonstrating that varying fin thickness
can reduce thermal resistance, particularly in water-cooled heat sinks. Koga et al. [20]
designed an enhanced heat sink using the Topology Optimization Method tailored for
small-scale applications, with an emphasis on reducing pressure drop while maximiz-
ing thermal dissipation.
In the existing literature on heat sink optimization through perforations, most
studies have focused on individual types of perforations [8, 12, 21–24], resulting in a
fragmented understanding of the effectiveness of circular perforated cylindrical fin
pin heat sinks.
Building on this extensive foundation, the current investigation seeks to push the
boundaries of heat sink design by examining the impact of various perforation con-
figurations on heat transfer efficiency. This research aims to identify the optimal
perforation pattern that maximizes heat dissipation efficiency. Experimental analysis
will be conducted on heat sinks with solid pin-fins, longitudinal perforations, longi-
tudinal/transverse perforations, and longitudinal/transverse/vertical perforations
across different inlet velocities and Reynolds numbers. Key performance metrics, including the Nusselt number, friction factor, thermal resistance, hydrothermal per-
formance, fin efficiency, and effectiveness, are evaluated to determine the most
effective design.
In essence, this study aspires to advance the state of the art in thermal manage-
ment for electronic devices, providing insights that could lead to more efficient and
compact cooling solutions. By systematically exploring and analyzing the effects of
various perforation configurations, this research aims to contribute valuable knowl-
edge to the ongoing quest for optimal heat sink designs.
2. Methods

The experiment was conducted using the Armfield Unit for Heat Transfer by Free
and Forced Convection, designed to demonstrate the principles of natural (free) and
forced convection. As depicted in Figure 1, this unit features a bench-mounted verti-
cal rectangular air duct (300 350 mm and 950 mm in height) positioned above a
centrifugal fan. Inside the duct, a hot wire anemometer measures and displays the air velocity on a dedicated display unit. The duct includes a 150 150 mm test section at
the rear wall, allowing the insertion of various heat-transfer surfaces.

Each heat sink unit is equipped with a polycarbonate sheet with low thermal
conductivity at its base, serving as an insulator to ensure upward heat flow through
the heat sink. A 60-watt Peltier module (heating pad) with stabilized heat flux mimics
the thermal heating of electronic components. The heat sink, characterized by high
thermal conductivity, is connected to the heating pad using high-conductivity thermal
tape to minimize contact resistance. Thermocouples positioned on the heat sink’s base
measure the temperature across the surface.
The duct’s front wall is constructed from acrylic to allow clear observation of the
heated surface and measurement sensors. A throttle that can be adjusted manually regu-
lates the airflow, while pressure sensors placed both upstream and downstream of the
orifice plate monitor the difference in pressure across the test section. Thermocouples
measure air temperatures before and after the heated surface, as well as base and surface
temperatures at various points along the extended surface of the heat exchangers.
The base plate has seven primary thermocouples (T3–T9) to measure its surface
temperature, while the pins have eight secondary thermocouples (T1–T8) to measure
extended surface temperatures. Air inlet and outlet temperatures are recorded by sen-
sors T1 and T2 at the duct’s top and base. Thermocouple attachment points are covered
with adhesive for protection. Air velocity can be adjusted from 0 to 12 m/s, depending
on local mains voltage and supply frequency, with the sensor permanently mounted in
the duct and connected to the console via a plug and socket. All thermocouples are
“Duplex,” with primary thermocouples using miniature plugs and secondary thermo-
couples using two-way edge connectors suitable for the Risepro Data Logger.
Four different configurations of staggered pin arrays have been used, namely:
i. Solid pin-fin heat sink depicted in Figure 2a,
ii. Heat sink with longitudinal perforated pin-fins shown in Figure 2b,
iii. Heat sink featuring both longitudinal and transverse perforated pin-fins
illustrated in Figure 2c, and
iv. Heat sink incorporating longitudinal, transverse, and vertical perforated pin-
fins as shown in Figure 2d.
Each pin-fin array contains 23 pins, 8 mm in diameter and 45 mm in height, with a
pitch of 20 mm.
2.1 Experimental procedure
The experiment entailed testing four types of heat sinks at five flow speeds (0.5,
1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 meters/second) with a constant heat flux of 5000 Wm2
, resulting
in 20 experimental runs using a consistent approach.
2.1.1 Preparation
i. The laboratory air conditioning system was activated to stabilize the room
temperature at 25°C.
The HT10XC heat transfer service equipment was powered on.
iii. The centrifugal ventilator was started to induce fluid flow through the test
section. The air velocity at the entrance was adjusted to the desired value and
maintained constant.
2.1.2 Measurements

2.1.2 Measurements
i. The digital differential manometer was zeroed to record the pressure
difference.
ii. The variable transformer was set to provide the required input power
to the heating pad, monitored via a digital wattmeter to ensure the desired
heat flux.
iii. The system was allowed to reach steady-state conditions over approximately
80 minutes, as determined by stable specimen temperatures (fluctuations
within 0.1°C over 10 minutes).

The Chairman, Inter party advisory council IPAC, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantelle has cautioned the Civil Society Organisations CSO's not to allow themselves to be used by politicians with inordinate ambitions , who are insisting on hijacking council administration against the judgment of the Supreme Court.

He made this declaration in Lagos on Tuesday during the ongoing three days workshop on political party development in Nigeria organised by the Kukah Centre in conjunction with the European Union.

Dantelle who said the position of INEC towards conducting local government elections is non negotiable, stating the parlour nature of local government elections conducted by state independent electoral commission SIEC was obvious.

"As political parties, we are the players , on the field and knows what it takes to have a virile and robust local government administration in Nigeria."

He said the ongoing three days program by the political parties will be another opportunity to continue to insist on allowing INEC to conduct local government elections, in the interest of fair , free and credible elections.

While he will continue to disagree with the Civil Society Organisations on the position of local government elections in Nigeria, he asked them to reconsider their stance towards a virile nation.

Protest: APC youth wing, Nigerians March in thousands against Kyari Over failure of NNPCL to fix local refineries

By Dansu Peter

No fewer than 20,000 activists took to the three Arms Zone in Abuja  on Tuesday to demand the resignation of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), citing his alleged incompetent leadership.

The protesters under the auspices of the APC Solidarity and Development Forum, comprising youths and civil society organizations, decried the skyrocketing fuel prices, endless fuel queues, and economic hardship plaguing the nation.

In an open letter to the Senate President   Godswill Akpabio and  Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the conveners Comrade Kabir Matazu and Danielsi Momoh said the ongoing fuel scarcity has revealed a systemic failure in leadership and operational oversight within NNPCL.

Despite assurances of resolving fuel scarcity, they lamented the situation remains dire, causing untold hardship to Nigerians.

They said this crisis not only undermines public confidence but also adversely affects the reputation of the presidency and its Renewed Hope agenda.

The protesters criticized Kyari's management for failing to operationalize local refineries, despite the Federal Government's $4 billion investment.

They noted that the failure to provide a clear roadmap for the revitalization and operationalization of these vital assets raises serious questions about the stewardship of resources entrusted to Kyari.

Other concerns include unresolved corruption cases within NNPCL.

“Kyari’s continued leadership is detrimental to NNPCL and the Nigerian populace. It is time for new leadership that prioritizes accountability and efficiency,” the protesters said.

“We demand a clear roadmap for the revitalization and operationalization of our local refineries to ensure self-sufficiency in petroleum products and reduce reliance on imports.

“The National Assembly must enact and enforce strict regulations to prevent the importation of substandard petroleum products, protecting the health and safety of Nigerians.

“We urge the President to appoint a qualified individual who possesses the integrity and expertise necessary to navigate the complexities of the oil sector and restore public confidence.

“We call for the immediate establishment of a committee to investigate the ongoing allegations of sleaze and fraud under Mr. Kyari’s leadership. Furthermore, we demand that he be held accountable for any misconduct and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.

“As the representatives of the people, the National Assembly must rise to the occasion and fast. Mele Kyari should be gotten rid of with dispatch. And NNPCL should be repositioned for optimal productivity, transparency and accountability. “

Forum Backs Keyamo's Position on Allocation of Airstrip to Oyedepo, Others

Forum Backs Keyamo's Position on Allocation of Airstrip to Oyedepo, Others

By Dansu Peter

The Forum of Security Experts (FOSE) has thrown its weight behind Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, regarding the allocation of airstrips to Bishop David Oyedepo's Living Faith Church and other qualified individuals.

This move has been surrounded by controversy, with some lawmakers calling for the revocation of Oyedepo's airstrip license due to security concerns.

However, Keyamo has clarified that the House of Representatives did not direct the revocation of any private airstrip licenses.

In a statement signed by Danladi Adamu, the Forum hailed Keyamo's efforts to promote Nigeria's aviation growth, particularly his emphasis on modernizing Nigerian airports and investing in cutting-edge technologies to enhance efficiency, safety, and security.

Adamu said the allocation of airstrips to qualified individuals and organizations, like Living Faith Church, offers numerous benefits such as economic growth, jobs and stimulates local development.

He added that private airstrips also increase access to remote areas, facilitating humanitarian aid and medical evacuations.

Moreover, Adamu noted that private airstrips promote tourism, enabling visitors to access Nigeria's rich cultural heritage and natural attractions, boosting local economies and supporting small businesses.

He added that Keyamo's reforms has fostered an investor-friendly aviation sector, reassuring investors with transparency and accountability.

As minister, Adamu said he drives growth, modernization, and security enhancements while promoting Nigeria's aviation growth.

The group, therefore, urged the National Assembly to support the Ministry's efforts in enhancing aviation security and development.

The statement said in part: “The Forum of Security Experts (FOSE) strongly endorses Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo's, stance on allocating airstrips to Bishop David Oyedepo's Living Faith Church and other qualified individuals. Despite controversy surrounding the move, Keyamo clarified that the House of Representatives did not direct revocation of private airstrip licenses.

“Keyamo's dedication to promoting Nigeria's aviation growth is laudable. His emphasis on modernizing airports and investing in cutting-edge technologies enhances efficiency, safety, and security. Regulatory reforms encourage local and international investments, while investments in training and development of aviation professionals foster excellence.

“At the NCAA South-West Regional Air Transportation Summit (SWRATS) 2024, Keyamo underscored aviation's critical role in economic growth. A well-developed aviation sector attracts foreign investments, grows industries like logistics, travel, and tourism, and connects Nigeria to global markets.

“Nigeria has achieved notable milestones in the sector, including improved ratings under the Cape Town Convention. The country's aviation working group rating jumped from 49.5% to over 70%. This renewed confidence will provide airlines with better financial instruments.

“The allocation of airstrips to qualified individuals and organizations, like Living Faith Church, offers numerous benefits. It enhances economic growth, creates jobs, and stimulates local development. Private airstrips also increase access to remote areas, facilitating humanitarian aid and medical evacuations.

“Moreover, private airstrips promote tourism, enabling visitors to access Nigeria's rich cultural heritage and natural attractions. This, in turn, boosts local economies and supports small businesses.

“Keyamo's reforms will foster an investor-friendly aviation sector, reassuring investors with transparency and accountability. As minister, he drives growth, modernization, and security enhancements.

“FOSE commends Minister Keyamo for addressing security concerns while promoting Nigeria's aviation growth. We urge the National Assembly to support the Ministry's efforts in enhancing aviation security and development.

“By working together, we can reposition the Nigerian aviation industry for financial capability and economic viability. Keyamo's leadership has instilled confidence in Nigeria's aviation future.

“The benefits of allocating airstrips to qualified individuals extend beyond economic growth. They also enhance national security by providing alternative landing strips for emergency situations.

“Private airstrips also support agricultural development, enabling efficient transportation of perishable goods to markets. This boosts Nigeria's agricultural sector, promoting food security and economic diversification.”

EFCC Considers Strategic Partnership With AMP To Leverage Film For Anti-Corruption Advocacy

EFCC Considers Strategic Partnership With AMP To Leverage Film For Anti-Corruption Advocacy

In a bid to strengthen advocacy against corruption and financial crimes, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is exploring a potential partnership with the Association of Movie Producers (AMP). This collaboration aims to leverage film and creative content to promote anti-corruption messages and enhance public awareness of the commission’s mission.

The proposal was discussed during a courtesy visit by AMP National President, Amb Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson, accompanied by FTC Chapter AMP members, including Dr. Chris Oge Kalu (Chairman of the Abuja Chapter), Desmond Utomwen (Publicity Secretary), former Chairman Amb. Imaobong Abia, and National member Barbara Odoh. The delegation was received by EFCC Secretary Muhammad Hammajoda on behalf of the Chairman, along with EFCC officials, including Deputy Director/Head of EFCC Radio, Nwanyinma Okeanu, Head of Media and Publicity Dele Oyewale, Chris Oluka, and Ola Oji.

Dr. Ebigieson underscored the importance of AMP and EFCC collaborating to bring anti-corruption messaging to a broader audience. She emphasized the need for training opportunities for AMP members to ensure that films carry the right messages and accurately reflect EFCC's work, fostering a deeper understanding among the public.

Dr Ebigieson added that as the premier association in Nollywood, with over 10,000 members across 28 state chapters, including the FCT and diaspora, AMP represents, protects, and promotes the interests of the entire producing team in film, television, and news media. Registered over 27 years ago, the association is committed to upholding core values that benefit the industry as a whole.

Muhammad Hammajoda welcomed the proposed partnership, noting that with about 4,500 EFCC staff responsible for fighting financial crimes in a nation of over 200 million people, the collaboration could be instrumental in scaling up the reach of anti-corruption campaigns. He remarked that foreign media often paint a negative image of Nigeria, and by working with film producers, the EFCC hopes to shift this narrative and enhance the country’s reputation. Although the EFCC’s budget for strategic advocacy may be limited, Joda confirmed the commission’s willingness to explore partnership opportunities with AMP.

This potential alliance between the EFCC and AMP highlights the growing recognition of creative media’s power in shaping public perception and addressing social issues. It could provide a significant boost to national efforts in combating financial crime and corruption. The planned collaboration was given a boost with the Commission instantly decorating Dr. Ebigieson as an EFCC anti corruption Ambassador.

Dangote PMS is cheaper than imported PMS - Sources

Dangote PMS is cheaper than imported PMS - Sources

By Dansu Peter
The unending imbroglio between the Dangote refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited took a dramatic turn recently with insinuations that it is cheaper to import Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country.

According to Yakubu Suleiman, the National Assistant Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), buying petrol is cheaper when they import than buying from Dangote Refinery. He stated that “Dangote’s price is higher than other places. Dangote sells at N995/litre and you have to bring your cargo to load.”

This medium undertook a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics in the PMS regime using various variables that determine the pricing and quality of PMS in Nigeria. The findings from the report indicated that the oil and gas sector in Nigeria is undergoing a phase occasioned by the entry of Dangote refinery into the market.

Energy experts consulted were of the opinion that it was unrealistic for imported PMS to be cheaper than a locally refined PMS. They cited the escalating dollar rates and the attendant landing cost associated with the importation regime.

According to findings, it costs $650,000 to $800,000 for freighting 30kt cargo from Europe to West Africa. NPA and NIMASA charge an average of $350,000 for each cargo, aside from other related costs. The implication is that all of these charges are eliminated when PMS is produced locally, as in the case of Dangote refinery.

It was also revealed that Dangote Refinery sells PMS 11 naira cheaper than what is imported into the country. This was confirmed by industry stakeholders who preferred anonymity. They also cited the quality of PMS as a factor in determining the retail price.

“Dangote PMS is of international standard, meeting the requirement in terms of Sulphur content, and that means that there would be less emission and improved engine performance as compared to what is imported into the country. The sad tale is that the regulatory agencies have been derelict in their functions and as such all manner of substandard PMS have been imported into the country, causing untold hardship on vehicle owners”

“The NNPCL in most instances imports blended PMS that does not meet regulatory standards, and it is also bought cheap, and with a higher profit margin when sold to motorists. The quality of PMS imported into the country is sourced from regions in Europe with high Sulphur content in the refining process. This cannot be said of the Dangote refinery because it is a new refinery and the process of refining undergoes strict adherence to the specified average Sulphur content per litre.”

Another source conversant in the refining of PMS stated that the entry of the Dangote refinery into the market was not good business for the NNPCL and the independent marketers.

“Buying from the Dangote refinery eliminates several bottlenecks and associated costs. These are areas where independent marketers make humongous profits. These marketers are not interested in the quality of the PMS they sell. They are out to maximize profit and that has been the regime.”

“ The challenge independent marketers have with buying from Dangote refinery is that there is a limit to the profit margin, which is not good for business for them, and as such, they prefer to continue to importation regime, where they buy very cheap adulterated products and add all the profits and pass down to the end users.”

It was also gathered that should Dangote refinery reduce the quality of its PMS to the standard imported and at the same price sourced from Europe, the independent marketers would patronize it. But this has not been the case and is a reason for the unending imbroglio between Dangote refinery, the NNPCL and independent marketers.

According to a top staffer of the NNPCL, the reason why NNPCL is at loggerheads with the Dangote refinery is the attempt to bring down the price of PMS in the country.

“The government refineries have been moribund for years and it is deliberate. The NNPCL's major source of income is the importation of PMS, and if our local refineries work, the NNPC would go out of business as such the coming of the Dangote refinery is not good business for the revenue base of the NNPCL, hence the unending drama.”

“The only way the NNPCL can convince Nigerians about its sincerity of purpose is to make our local refineries work, despite the huge amount of monies expended over the years. The argument that imported PMS is cheaper than locally produced is indicative of the rot in the system, and why despite the presence of Dangote refinery, the quest for importation is still rife. In truth, we don’t have any business importing PMS into the country.”

“Of course, Dangote PMS is cheaper and of better quality, but it is not good business for the NNPCL and the independent marketers. This is what they don’t want Nigerians to know. At the end of the day, the end users are bearing the brunt of the actions of the NNPCL and independent marketers.”

PDP Lauds Judiciary Over Landmark Ruling On Rivers Allocation

PDP Lauds Judiciary Over Landmark Ruling On Rivers Allocation

By Dansu Peter

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Frontiers has commended the Federal High Court's landmark ruling, stopping the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing monthly allocations to the Rivers State Government.

This decision comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara presented the 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly, violating Sections 91 and 96 of the 1999 Constitution.

According to Justice Joyce Abdulmalik's judgement, Governor Fubara's actions constituted a "constitutional somersault and aberration" that must not continue.

The PDP Youth Frontiers at a press conference on Wednesday, praised the ruling, stating it revives hope in the judiciary as a guardian of Nigeria's democracy.

The court's decision declared the four-member assembly's actions void, referencing prior Federal High Court and Court of Appeal rulings that annulled its authority.

Consequently, Comr.  Henry Owolabi, the National coordinator of the group, demanded an immediate reversal of all decisions made by the illegitimate assembly and a refund of illegally spent funds.

Owolabi also urged Governor Fubara to respect the party that gave him the platform to become governor and to retrace his steps to avoid further constitutional breaches.

He called on the PDP to provide guidance to the Rivers State House of Assembly to prevent the people from suffering due to the governor's actions.

Owolabi emphasized the need for Governor Fubara to take corrective action, warning that persistence in his current path may necessitate further legal action.

He added: “We are pleased that the ruling, in citing constitutional violations by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, was specific in stating that the decisions made by the four-member Fubara-backed assembly were void and referenced prior rulings by the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal that had annulled its authority.

“For us, this implies that all other violations that Governor Fubara used the four-man assembly to illegally validate must also be reversed and this must be done immediately. We shall be setting up a team to identify and collate all such decisions and then take the necessary steps to ensure they are reversed. We hope Governor Fubara will not persist in his destructive recalcitrance that might necessitate our going to court to, again, compel him to do the right thing.

“We hope that Governor Fubara will explore the face-saving chance that this court ruling has provided to retrace his steps and return to respecting the PDP as the platform that magnanimously gave him the platform that made him the Rivers State Governor.

“This timely counsel becomes necessary to avert a situation where the PDP Youth Frontiers is compelled to take far-reaching actions to restore democracy in Rivers State, where the governor’s penchant for constitutional breaches has completely muddled the waters.

“We call on our great party, the PDP, to take steps to stop further constitutional aberrations by providing the needed political guidance to the Rivers State House of Assembly to properly resume its functions of receiving and passing a legitimate 2024 budget for the state. This is to ensure that they prevent the people of the state from being plunged into suffering because of the governor’s error.

“The party should also mandate its members in the state house of assembly to cause the parliament to trace all illegally spent funds and seek a refund of the same from Governor Fubara.“

Tax Bill: Arewa Civil Society Counters Northern Governors Over Plot to Block Legislation in NASS

Tax Bill: Arewa Civil Society Counters Northern Governors Over Plot to Block Legislation in NASS

By Dansu Peter

The Arewa Civil Rights Movement (ACRM) has expressed disappointment over the Northern Governors Forum's opposition to President Bola Tinubu's tax reform bills, which are currently before the National Assembly.

The bills, aimed at reforming tax collection in Nigeria, include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Dr. Agabi Emmanuel, National President of the group, said the governor's rejection of the bills is ill-conceived and would set the country back.

The movement argues that directing lawmakers to reject the bills due to issues with one is unjustified and oversteps the governors' authority.

The contentious issue lies in the proposed Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing template, which reduces the federal government's share from 15% to 10%.

However, the allocation among states will consider the derivation principle, encouraging states to attract businesses.

The ACRM views the governors' claim that the North would be disadvantaged as disingenuous.

Instead, Emmanuel suggests this is an opportunity for northern states to create a more investment-friendly climate.

The movement disagrees with the Northern Governors Forum, stating that their rejection paints the North in a beggarly light and contradicts the region's history of tax compliance.

Dr. Agabi urged northern lawmakers to disregard the governors' directive, emphasizing their responsibility to constituents. Rejecting the bills would confirm lawmakers' inability to serve and potentially lead to recalls.

The Arewa Civil Rights Movement called on northern governors to focus on their duties and account for excess earnings from the Federation Account since assuming office.

The movement also advised governors to reassess sectarian extremism, which harms revenue generation.

Agabi said in part: "Our Movement is concerned with the far-reaching consequences of the ill-conceived directive to northern lawmakers to reject the bills. First, it is wrong to direct lawmakers to reject the four bills because they have issues with just one.

"This will set the country back as it is creating needless drama and distraction that is unnecessary at this point. Secondly, we are of the view that the governors overstepped their remit by directing federal lawmakers to reject the bills.

"These are not state lawmakers, and even if they were it would amount to validating the allegation of rubberstamp parliaments that states are known for because of the overbearing attitude of these governors. But we are talking about federal lawmakers, who are employees of their constituents and sworn to protect the interests of the constituents.

"Additionally, the claim by the governors that the North would be disadvantaged by the VAT sharing formula on account of major companies being headquartered in southern states where their taxes would be captured is totally disingenuous.

"What we expect is that this is a wake-up call for us in the north to create a more investment-friendly climate. The governors cannot exploit sectarian extremism that discourages investments and expect profit-oriented organisations to site their headquarters in their states.

"Furthermore, we disagree with the Northern Governors Forum because their rejection of the proposed tax reforms paints the North in a beggarly light making it appear as if those of us from there are unwilling to be tax compliant.

"This is especially true when their opposition to the Tax Bills creates the impression that northerners are so impoverished that they cannot pay the associated taxes when the North has a rich history and tradition of being tax compliant.

"The Arewa Civil Rights Movement urges the northern lawmakers to disregard the directive from the state governors as they had no basis to issue such a directive. The lawmakers’ responsibility is to their constituents.

"Should the northern lawmakers reject the Bills based on the interference from the governors they would have confirmed to those who voted them into office that they are incapable of serving. Such disrespect for the wishes of their constituents will definitely result in a wave of recall as the people will not accept rubberstamp lawmakers.

"We urge the Northern Governors to get back to work while also preparing to account for what they did with the excess earnings that came into their states’ coffers from the Federation Account since they assumed office on May 29, 2023.

"They should also begin to explore how to walk back the sectarian extremism they adopted for their states that is now proving injurious to revenue generation."

Nigeria Finally Gets it Right with Yilwatda as Humanitarian Affairs Minister - Group

Nigeria Finally Gets it Right with Yilwatda as Humanitarian Affairs Minister - Group

By Dansu Peter
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda's appointment as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has been hailed as a significant step towards addressing Nigeria's humanitarian challenges.

The Coalition of Lawyers for Truth and Justice (CLTJ) hailed President Bola Tinubu for Yilwatda’s nomination as strategic to uplift Nigeria's most vulnerable citizens.

In a statement signed Barrister Moses Okino, the group said Yilwatda's impressive credentials, including a PhD in Digital Systems Engineering, make him an outstanding fit for the role.

Okino added that his passion for humanitarian work is evident in his previous projects, such as Nigeria's first Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) and the World Bank-funded STEP-B project.

According to Okino, his penchant for uplifting marginalized communities, particularly Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), is evident in his previous projects, including setting up schools for IDP children and empowering IDP women through skill acquisition programs.

“Unlike his predecessors, Betta Edu and Sadiya Farouq, who faced numerous controversies during their tenures, Yilwatda's appointment brings a sense of hope and renewal,” he said.

“Edu and Farouq were embroiled in scandals, including allegations of mismanagement and corruption, which hindered the ministry's effectiveness.

“In contrast, Yilwatda's track record of transparency and accountability, demonstrated during his time as Resident Electoral Commissioner at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), inspires confidence in his ability to lead the ministry with integrity.

“As Nigeria faces numerous humanitarian challenges, including food insecurity, disease outbreaks, and displacement, Yilwatda's expertise and commitment to humanitarian work are crucial in addressing these pressing issues.

“The CLTJ believes that Prof. Yilwatda's appointment will bring significant positive change to Nigeria's humanitarian landscape. His expertise in digital systems engineering and electronic governance will undoubtedly enhance the Ministry's impact.

“We commend President Tinubu for this thoughtful appointment and pledge our support for Prof. Yilwatda as he embarks on this critical mission.

“Prof. Yilwatda's achievements are a shining example of dedication to public service. His commitment to humanitarian work, support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), development of voting frameworks for People Living with Disabilities (PWD), and engagement with the Nigerian Diaspora demonstrate his unwavering resolve to uplift the vulnerable.

“As Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Yilwatda will play a pivotal role in addressing the challenges facing Nigeria's most vulnerable citizens.

“We urge him to continue his exemplary work, leveraging his expertise to drive meaningful change. The CLTJ are confident that Prof. Yilwatda's expertise, passion, and leadership will usher in a new era of hope and progress for Nigeria's most vulnerable citizens.

“We urge all Nigerians to join us in congratulating Prof. Yilwatda on this well-deserved appointment.
Together, we can build a Nigeria where everyone has access to opportunities and a better life.”

African Nationalists Hail FIRS Boss for Unprecedented Revenue Growth

African Nationalists Hail FIRS Boss for Unprecedented Revenue Growth

By Dansu Peter
The Nationalist Front of Africa (NFA) has commended the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, for his outstanding leadership and achievements in Nigeria's tax management and administration.

Under Dr. Adedeji's leadership, the group said the FIRS achieved record-breaking revenue growth of 12.36 trillion Naira in 2023, surpassing its target.

In a statement signed by Moses Idoko, the group said his innovative approach has introduced significant reforms, positioning Nigeria's tax system among the most progressive on the continent.

He said: "Dr. Adedeji's focus on technology integration has transformed FIRS into a model for efficient revenue generation. The introduction of the TaxPro Max system, which has enhanced efficiency and reduced manual work by 80%, is a testament to his vision," the statement said.

"This digital platform enables taxpayers to file returns, pay taxes, and access essential services from the comfort of their homes or offices. Furthermore, Dr. Adedeji has established a strong data management unit within FIRS, ensuring precise planning and execution.

"His commitment to educating the public on tax compliance has also yielded significant results, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability."

The group also said the FIRS boss has also introduced progressive reforms, addressing longstanding issues in Nigeria's tax framework.

The statement noted that his leadership has clarified guidelines for crypto transactions, simplifying tax reporting for digital asset transactions.

Additionally, they said Dr. Adedeji has streamlined the Withholding Tax framework, removing bottlenecks that once hindered efficient tax collection.

The statement added: "Dr. Adedeji's anti-corruption stance has been equally impressive. He established an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit within FIRS, collaborating with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to maintain standards and prevent malpractice.

"The NFA applauds Dr. Adedeji's commitment to fairness, transparency, and anti-corruption policies. His leadership has rekindled confidence in Nigeria's tax system, demonstrating his aspiration for a tax authority that is reliable and untainted."

The organisation urged Dr. Adedeji to continue his exemplary leadership, building on FIRS's success to secure Nigeria's economic future.

"What Dr. Adedeji has done for Nigeria's tax administration is enormous; it touches so many aspects of what's done in Nigeria today, “ Idoko said.

"He has pretty much changed the narrative on how the tax sector and the economy should be for Nigeria."
