CSO, Tinubu's Support Group Score Nigerian Navy High On War Against Oil Theft*

CSO, Tinubu's Support Group Score Nigerian Navy High On War Against Oil Theft*

... Laud CNS Ogalla's Giant Strides

By Dansu Peter
A coalition of civil society organizations, led by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors of Nigeria (RHAN) and the Centre for Action Against Corruption (CAAC), has unequivocally condemned allegations made by Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, that the Nigerian Navy is complicit in oil theft in the Niger Delta.

The group described Tompolo's allegations as unsubstantiated, baseless, frivolous and lacking in merit.

At a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, the group highlighted Tompolo's negative antecedents, including his history as a wanted fugitive and member of a militant coalition that terrorized and kidnapped oil workers, were highlighted. The coalition emphasized that Tompolo lacks moral justification to denigrate the Nigerian Navy.

The group praised Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), for his achievements in the fight against oil bunkering and theft.

Under his leadership, Abdullahi Bilal and Olayemi Isaacs said the Nigerian Navy has achieved significant milestones, including destruction of illegal refining sites, arrest of sea pirates, reduction in maritime crimes, and over 21,630 hours of patrol resulting in numerous arrests and seizures.

The coalition emphasised that CNS Ogalla's leadership has justified his appointment by President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope mandate.

They urged the CNS to remain focused and resilient in his fight against oil theft, noting that success is imminent.

The group called on lovers of peace to join them in condemning Tompolo's allegations, warning that unchecked misinformation could lead to chaos and increased criminality.

The statement added: “t is our collective responsibilities to fight against those forces and interest which tries to undermine our very collective existence and interest, and ensure we annihilate them. This is why we are here today.

“This, to us is an apt opportunity to take the bull by the horns and conscientize the public on the evil intentions of Tompolo and the sensitive nature of his allegation, as it tries to undermine the Nigerian navy and also reduce the morale of the fighting gallant men in the field.

“We must also warn of the chaos, destruction and up surge in criminalities if such misinformation and mischief continuous unchecked and unmitigated.
Our interest is basically the national interest.

“We believe that lifting up this curtain of secrecy and mischief will move the nation forward, encourage the Armed Forces and indeed the security forces all over the nation, as the sacrifice to secure us.

“We therefore call on all lovers of peace and workers with God to join us to condemn this orchestrated onslaught against those men who have decided to haphazard their lives so that we can live in peace and quiet.

“We call on the CNS to remain focused, unfazed and resilient in his dogged fight as success is just around the corner, and to discountenance the allegation as those that are with you are more than those against you. “

$2.2 Billion Loan: CSOs back FG's request for funds as a necessity for development

$2.2 Billion Loan: CSOs back FG's request for funds as a necessity for development

…laud Tinubu’s administration for judicious application of  resources.

By Dansu Peter
The Centre for Social Justice, Equity, and Transparency (CESJET) has backed Federal Government’s request to borrow $2.2 billion to capital projects.

The Convener of the Group, Emeka Theodore while addressing journalists on Thursday in Abuja, said the funds are essential to the advancement of revenue-generating plans and institutional improvements.

He said rejecting this proposal is not a sincere concern for the national interest; rather, it is populist posturing that goes against logic and same reasoning.

“We are gathered here today, to discuss a matter of vital importance to the development and prosperity of our country: the Federal Government’s planned loan request of $2.2 billion. This initiative has seen a lot of pushback in recent weeks, most of it being misguided and uninformed.

“Evidently, it is important to understand that the oppositions to the borrowing plan is obviously unwarranted and counterproductive to Nigeria’s development. In Setting the record straight, it requires us to address the baseless complaints made of this loan while emphasizing its benefits and justification it would do to our great country”, he said.

Theodore noted that Nigeria is one of the few countries that have continuously fulfilled its financial commitments to foreign creditors.

“Through a strategic and structural plan in executing loan servicing, the President Tinubu led-administration has maintained repayment schedules and built confidence with foreign lenders.

“For example, income generating reforms have been used to carefully control the 2023 debt service-to-revenue ratio, despite the fact that it is still worrisome.

“It is noteworthy stating that fulfilling these responsibilities has not only maintained Nigeria's reputation, but it has also increased foreign financial institutions' trust in our capacity to carefully manage borrowed money. Nigeria continues to benefit from favorable rates on development funding and concessional loans because of this confidence”, he stated.

He reminded critics of the loan that the money collected in the past have been used for important development initiatives, infrastructure growth, and institutional changes.

CESJET further noted that the judicious use of borrowed monies to promote economic growth and address infrastructure deficiencies is demonstrated in projects like the Second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan railway, and the ongoing Mambilla Hydropower Project.

“ This proposed $2.2 billion loan is no unusual; its goal is to fund vital industries that would help Nigerians in the long run”, the group said.

“In dispelling the myth on the borrowing-to-federal budget ratio, we wish to state categorically that, Nigeria’s borrowing plans are clearly in line with international best practices and do not impose an excessive cost.

“For example, a fiscal deficit of about ₦8 trillion is expected in the 2025 budget, which is estimated to be around ₦34 trillion. A manageable portion of current budget, the $2.2 billion loan fits the government’s fiscal policy to strike a balance between development requirements and long-term financial viability.

“Comparatively, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recommends that developing economies have a debt-to-GDP ratio of not more than 55%. Nigeria’s debt ratio of about 35% puts the country in a better situation than that of other African peers, such as Ghana and Kenya, whose debt ratios are more than 60%. Nigeria has the financial capacity to borrow responsibly, as these numbers demonstrate.

“However, some critics have attempted to sabotage this important project. It is depressing to observe that their ideas frequently lack basic economic reasoning and instead rely on populist hyperbole. To propagate false information, some organizations have been enlisted to paint Nigeria's borrowing as irresponsible and unsustainable.

“These organizations lack a thorough grasp of the economic forces at work and are frequently supported by anti-progress elements. 9. Opposing politicians should give up their populist stance and accept the realities of government for the benefit of the country.

“It will be in the good interest of the Nation for opposing lawmakers  to abandon their populist approach and embrace the realities of governance. Clearly, their opposition runs the risk of sabotaging Nigeria's growth, delaying the country's advancement and leaving important projects underfunded.

“It is crucial to emphasize that denying the loan request will have disastrous effects on ongoing programs and projects. If the necessary funding is not obtained, infrastructure development, healthcare expansion, and educational changes might all be shelved. In addition to being a waste of money, abandoned projects often represent missed chances for economic diversification, job growth, and higher living standards.

“For example, lowering transportation costs and boosting regional trade depend on the completion of ongoing rail projects. The provision of sufficient money is critical to the viability of these projects. Therefore, the $2.2 billion loan is essential to securing Nigeria's future and advancing its economic program, and not to be seen as a luxury, which a misguided thought and speculations occupying the mind of many.

“Cases just like the Investments in digital technologies and infrastructure, would increase the effectiveness of tax collection, diversifying Nigeria’s revenue streams and lowering its need on oil earnings. Likewise, financing agricultural changes will increase output, guaranteeing food security and boosting exports. The government intends to use a portion of the loan for mechanized farming and irrigation projects, which will greatly increase agricultural productivity, provide employment, and promote rural development.

“This said loan is an additional source to strengthen diverse empowerment, and further upgrade many of our sectors in maintaining their global reputation amongst other nations. It is clear that the loan is more than just a financial tool; it is a driving force behind revolutionary change in several important economic sectors.

“Additionally, President Tinubu led-administration continuous initiatives to increase non-oil earnings and diversify the economy would strengthen Nigeria's ability to service its debt in no time unlike when the country was solely dependent on revenues from oil for its mega operations. These actions demonstrate the government's dedication to fiscal restraint and judicious borrowing.

“Evidently, public support is crucial for the successful implementation of development projects. By highlighting the benefits of the proposed loan and addressing concerns transparently, we can build consensus and ensure the smooth passage of the loan request by the National Assembly (NASS).

“In conclusion, the $2.2 billion loan proposal is clearly a necessity for Nigeria’s progress. Rejecting this proposal would be self-defeating, compromising current initiatives and endangering the future of the country. In light of this, we urge National Assembly members to put the interests of the country above populist digressions. A better future for all Nigerians is at stake when the loan is approved; it is not just an economic choice, but a mission to save generations”, the group added.

False Allegations Against Nyesom Wike Aimed At Stalling Massive Progress , Says Coalition

False Allegations Against Nyesom Wike Aimed At Stalling Massive Progress , Says Coalition

By Dansu Peter

The Coalition for Truth and Justice in Nigeria (CTJN) has said recent false allegations against Barrister Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is aimed at stalling the various massive projects  going on in the FCT.

The group lauded him for his remarkable achievements in transforming the nation's capital.

The CTJN said that false accusations against the Minister are aimed to derail the progress and frustrate his efforts.

The group, after an extensive appraisal of Wike's achievements, said the Minister has proven critics wrong, demonstrating exceptional leadership and vision.

Speaking at a pres conference in Abuja, convener Dr. Agabi Emmanuel said under Wike, infrastructure development has been prioritized, addressing population pressure, urban sprawl, and neglected areas.

Agabi noted that the FCT is being transformed into a useful and aesthetically pleasing capital, with proactive measures addressing housing, transportation, healthcare, and governance infrastructure.

He said Wike's administration has addressed land grabbing, reclaiming illegally occupied lands for mass housing projects.

The group also said that judges now have befitting accommodations, and rural healthcare has seen significant investments while teacher welfare packages have been improved, and the FCT Civil Service Commission has been established to decentralize governance.

The Coalition recommends continued support from stakeholders, religious and traditional leaders promoting peaceful coexistence, and security agencies maintaining vigilance. Wike's leadership represents a paradigm shift in governance and infrastructure development, creating a legacy worthy of duplication.

Given the right support, the group said Nigerians and FCT residents can expect improved living standards.

The Coalition commends Wike's initiatives and encourages other states to replicate them. His achievements demonstrate commitment to equitable development, improved quality of life, and sustainable growth.

“Our findings revealed that the FCT administration under Barrister Neysom Wike indeed prioritized the provision of necessary infrastructures across the various area councils in the federal capital territory.  In the past, the FCT has had problems because of population pressure, urban sprawl, and the disregard for important areas,” the statement said.

“Right now, FCT is being transformed into a useful and aesthetically pleasing capital thanks to the proactive measures made by Barrister Wike’s leadership to address these problems. In order to identify priority regions across the many area councils, the administration has used a rigorous approach.

“Undoubtedly, a functional road network is a critical factor to urban development, economic activities, and the general well-being of residents. Recognizing this, it was also observed that the FCT Administration under Barrister Nyesom Wike has undertaken a major renovation of the road network within the Federal Capital City Centre.

“This is evident in the news look of the city centre and other adjourning areas in the federal capital territory. The FCT administration has also commissioned new roads in areas that were neglected by successive administrations in the country. These efforts are not merely about repairing roads but transforming them to meet modern urban standards.

“The FCT administration, led by Barrister Wike, has made large investments in security, which is a fundamental component of any flourishing community. The FCT Administration under the leadership of Barrister Nyesom Wike has also addressed the notorious issue of land grabbing in the FCT.

“The honourable minister went a step further by reclaiming these lands which obviously are not backed with any legal  or verifiable documents, and reallocating them for mass housing developmental projects. This is indeed commendable and a step in the right direction in addressing the housing deficit in the FCT while ensuring that land resources are utilized for the public good.

“The FCT administration under Barrister Nyesom Wike recently initiated steps towards providing befitting accommodation for judges. This in our opinion is brilliant and a welcome development in line with standard practices in other climes. It is believed that the members of the law deserve dignified living conditions.

“Supporting the judiciary is a step toward strengthening governance and promoting sustainable development. The Coalition for Truth and Justice in Nigeria recommends this brilliant initiative to other states in the country in our quest for sustainable growth and development.

“It is indeed a statement of the fact that the FCT administration has made substantial investments in improving access to healthcare for rural dwellers within the FCT. This much was recognized by the Coalition for Truth and Justice in the construction of new healthcare centres and the equipping of existing healthcare centres across the FCT. The value of lives and properties have been at the top priority of the working Minister.

“The FCT Administration under the leadership of Barrister Nyesom Wike has substantial improvements in the remuneration and welfare packages for school teachers in the FCT. This, in our opinion, is the manifestation of a premium placed on improving workers' welfare in the FCT towards achieving a productive workforce to aid in the development of the FCT.

“The FCT Administration in an attempt to decentralize governance in the FCT, established the FCT Civil Service Commission with the appointment of nine permanent secretaries to oversee critical sectors of the FCT.

“The Coalition for Truth and Justice in Nigeria wishes to state in unequivocal terms that the FCT Administration under the leadership of Barrister Nyesom Wike has indeed fared brilliantly in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.

“Barrister Nyesom Wike’s leadership of the FCT administration represents a paradigm shift in governance and infrastructure development which is unmatchable by no one so far. He has created a legacy of transformation that’s worthy of duplicity by any leader that wishes to make a difference. We commend his initiatives and encourages other states to replicate it”.

Good Governance Advocates Laud Aviation Minister Over Improved Global Rating

Good Governance Advocates Laud Aviation Minister Over Improved Global Rating

By Dansu Peter

The Good Governance Advocates of Nigeria (GGAN) has lauded  the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development,  Festus Keyamo on his recently improved gpobal ratings.

The group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for its remarkable achievements in the aviation sector, particularly the significant improvement in Nigeria's global aviation compliance score.

Under the leadership of Minister Festus Keyamo, the group said the aviation sector has witnessed a spectacular turnaround, with notable milestones achieved in the past year.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Executive Director of the group Dr. Opialu Fabian noted that Keyamo's focused leadership and intentional reforms have fostered interpersonal relationships, trade, and economic expansion and development.

He said the Minister's proactive interaction with aviation sector stakeholders has guaranteed inclusivity and conformity to international best practices.

Fabian stated that operators in the sector now have more confidence, creating a sense of hope for personal collaboration and business development.

He noted that Keyamo's strong commitment to safety has strengthened Nigeria's compliance with global standards.

The group said the Ministry has significantly improved safety protocols, earning accolades from international bodies.

Fabian further said that the smooth execution of the Cape Town Convention is among Keyamo's notable achievements, adding that this accomplishment demonstrates the Federal Government's dedication to bringing aircraft financing and leasing in line with worldwide standards.

According to him, these achievements align with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on infrastructural development, economic diversification, and international partnerships.

Fabian further said that the Minister has also emphasized human capital development, sponsoring training programs that improve aviation personnel abilities through international collaborations.

The organization urges stakeholders to support Keyamo's initiatives, highlighting the sector's far-reaching implications for Nigeria's economy and global reputation.

“For the record, the Honourable Minister has achieved more than just operations and infrastructure, though of particular relevance is his emphasis on the development of human capital. Mr Keyamo understood that to create a successful aviation and aerospace sector, he needs to create successful individuals, and it was in this light the Ministry sponsored training programs that improve the abilities of aviation personnel through collaborations with international aviation organizations,” the statement said.

“This strategy makes sure that the reforms in place are sustainable and gets the industry ready for new challenges that could be handled by competent individuals. In addition, Mr. Keyamo’s dedication to promoting diverse global partnerships has given Nigeria new prospects.

“His foresight in creating good policies and reforms have improved the industry’s reputation internationally and drawn in foreign direct investment by fortifying relationships with overseas aviation associations and financiers. Evidently, the Minister’s focus on transparency and accountability in the management of aviation resources has enhanced public trust.

“The tales of mismanagement and misappropriation of funds is now a closed chapter in our aviation sector. For sustainability within the sector and entrenching a mindset of equity among the citizens, Mr Keyamo  obtained approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to withdraw the ticket payment exemption granted to highly placed Nigerians at the nation’s airports.

“His sagacious approach in sweeping through the Ministry, has shown a steadfast commitment and positioning of sector that’s delivering value to Nigerians while adhering to global best practices.

However, while there are still small issues such as  operating costs, inadequate infrastructure, and regulatory barriers, nonetheless, we have faith that these problems will be successfully resolved by the Honourable Minister’s comprehensive reform strategy.

“Moreover , in position and retaining a man who have proved himself worthy through his work a commitments, It is clear that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s innovative leadership was essential to the aviation sector’s achievements. These accomplishments have been made possible by the backing and policy guidance of the president led-administration.

“It is worth mentioning that Nigeria’s aviation sector now serves as a model for other African nations. The reforms and achievements under Mr. Keyamo’s leadership have positioned the country as a leader in aviation, showcasing what can be accomplished through strategic vision and collaborative effort.

“The Nigerian aviation sector is on an upward trajectory under the leadership of Hon. Festus Keyamo. While reflecting on the milestones of the past year, it is undoubtedly clear that the aviation sector is on a trajectory of growth and sustainability.

This progress is a speaks so much of the Honourable Minister’s dedication, expertise, and passion for excellence.  “

Wantaregh Paul Unongo : My Fascinated Encounters

Wantaregh Paul Unongo : My Fascinated Encounters

By Akosu Emmanuel

When I heard of the late Wantaregh's death earlier in 2022, I could barely muster the courage to pay a tribute to this great son of Tiv nation  and Nigeria owing to some obvious distinctive  parameters . Firstly I belong to the much younger  generation, so I thought I  entirely lacked the basic latitude and depth  to make   any substantial and credible commentary  on this Iconic son of Tiv nation who is a detribalised Nigerian  and quintessential statesman. But impulsively my moral instinct began to gradually aggravate naturally, knowing  that I owe a bit more of a moral compass to dare some eulogy in honor of this remarkable figure.  Afterall I could , no matter how feeble, attempt some conscious visible instances of  rare encounters with this sage which I consider worth mentioning , especially now that he has gone the way of all mortals,  howbeit at an impressively great age with very impactful prints on the sands of time.

In the early and late 1990s, Wantaregh Paul Unongo was very much relevant in the politics and leadership direction  of this nation, and at this time I had started growing up into a knowledgeable adult and already a student  in the college . So I owe atleast the moral impetus to pay some  tribute to our very revered Wantaregh.

Paul Unongo's public personality became pronounced in 1983 as far as  my infant fascinations could  hold .  This was  when he squared it up against then incumbent governor Aper Aku for the Benue governorship . I was a little innocent boy in basic  school then, and in my innocence I  could listen  and  perfectly recite  the then political songs on his campaign vehicles  with lines like ' _antakeda anmbayev mba hen ato , bende tso u nenge Iorpuu Unongo awase u yo '_ composed by Faga Ajinge , a folksinger who was  famous for  Unongo's campaign songs.  These songs  daily blazed on the ahojas mounted on the  campaign vehicles of the NPP, the party which Unongo flew for the Benue governorship as its flagbearer.   Fondly too, I could also recite the famous ' _Aku baba wamooo, taver a taver Shima heregh , orapipi nguer gomna, orapipi una ya gomna yoo, saa jackie anyor Sha ihyura nuragh ...One Nation! ,_
which on the other hand  was Aku's famous  campaign song of the NPN.  I recollect when my father's eldest Sister in the Akosu family line , now Mrs Veronica Sohemba Chianson,  the first child of the Akosu's dynasty  would visit our family house  in Gboko  and I would literally become her  folksinger virtually mimicking these separate songs to her admiration. For her, I usually sang the Unongo's campaign  song that thrilled her the most, for she was an ardent supporter of the Paul Unongo's governorship in 1983 .  My audience especially my aunt  would consequently reward me with the  1 Naira currency note which I spent handsomely with my peers  buying biscuits, sweets etc.

Again it became compelling for me  to attempt a simple  memoir on the legendary Wantaregh because of other significant fascinating encounters with him . This time it was at the return of democracy in the aborted second republic of 1992/93 when he became a prominent  figure during the SDP/ NRC  era. This time ,  I lived and was mentored by my cousin , the late Basil Chianson,  a famous social crusader and politician  who was a strong protege of Wantaregh. I lived with him at his  home at 7th Avenue   Iyorkyaa Ako Street Makurdi which also became  a beehive of political interactions with a retinue of politicians as guests including Prof David Iornem, Iyorchia Ayu, and the legendary Wantaregh who I beheld  visiting on one  rare occasion . Sometimes , Basil Chianson would take me  in company to the Unongo's residence located  at School Lane in Makurdi where I would behold the elegance of this great son of Tiv land , even though I was a bit naive to relate with the sage at the time , his simplicity and communication prowess with his several supporters and admirers inspired me quite good and  as a young man of my age it  made me grow some confidence which I was eager to indulge in for the rest of my life  . Basil  my cousin was a regular face at the Wantaregh's Makurdi even when the leader was not around. He  usually took over the management of affairs at Wantaregh's Makurdi home including some occasional incidences of  security threats on the family residence . For Wantaregh Unongo was in the opposition APP at the  time  George Akume  was governor under the ruling  PDP in the state . Basil was literally a son and confidant of Unongo . I began to see more of Wantaregh's replica  in my cousin who was bold , courageous, wit and.intellectually  agile in his social conducts and relationship with people . The philosophy that I could vouch for that  kept both going was because , the people mattered in their agenda , both the  high and mighty, destitute and rich, maimed and strong,  all mattered in the scheme of their social dealings and interactions. They saw the people as supreme and would sacrifice all for them as they sought for the people's mandate pre 2003.

In 1993 during the IBB's SDP and NRC era. I could feel the pulse of politics filled all over with MKO Abiola as the Presidential  flagbearer and Revd Moses Adasu as the newly  elected governor towards the phase leading to the civil rule which was unfortunately aborted by the IBB military  regime .

I began to learn alot reading and writing of what made the pieces of the machinery and party propagation of the SDP,  and in the latter times the  APP which Basil Chianson did alot good work on . There were politicians like Samuel Ortom,  Hyacinth Nyakuma, Bem Dzoho, Hon Terfa  Atii, Hon Azer Ukende,  Hon Simon Kwaghbula, Pastor Atim Daa, Shima Ayati , Charles Torbunde, etc, who usually came around.

By 2007, Unongo returned back to the PDP and we were at the ACC playground for the grand ceremony where he addressed the mammoth crowd of admirers on his signature apparelled overall  glistening white robe . I would thereafter confirm his traditional role as symbol of Tiv leadership at his Unongo Kwaghgise village when he took on the full regalia in the _nyamtsam_ symbolizing its great potentials and interaction with the ancestral world and the living . This time it was when he would lead the ritual towards the installation of Gabriel Suswam as governor of Benue State in 2007. Indeed Suswam won the elections.

I am privileged to be Tiv and that Wantaregh really represented the symbol and pride  of Tiv nation anywhere in the world makes me proud anytime . This too is much to inform a tribute on this sage . Learning some impactful lessons from his life and times is so indelible .

 Adieu  the legendary Wantaregh!

Excitement At NNPCL As Board Sacks Eyisan , Ajiya

Excitement At NNPCL As Board Sacks Eyisan , Ajiya

There was unusual jubilation at the headquarters of Nigeria National Petroleum Company limited ( NNPCL)  over the sack of the Executive Vice President(upstream ) Oritsameyuwa  Eyisan and the Chief financial officer Unar Ajiya.

The Board of the NNPCL  yesterday expelled the duo in a management shake up and consequently appointed their  replacements.

The sacked officers were accused of being a clog in the wheel of progress and believed to be antagonist to the leadership of Kyari .

The staffers of NNPCL who were seen discussing the development in groups noted that the  board acted swiftly to save the company from the antics of the sacked officers.

It will be recalled that the sacked officers had been on a collision course with the group managing Director in what was seen as power tussle .

The new appointment according to NNPCl spokesman Olufemi Soneye is  to  reflect the  continued dedication to enhancing corporate governance, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term success in Nigeria's energy sector.

They included:
1. Mr. Adedapo A. Segun has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Segun previously served as the Executive Vice President, Downstream, where he made significant contributions to the company’s downstream operations.

2. Mr. Isiyaku Abdullahi has been named Executive Vice President (EVP), Downstream.

3. Mr. Udobong Ntia has been appointed Executive Vice President (EVP), Upstream.

The NNPCL added that "these appointments align with NNPC Limited’s commitment to building a unified and competent leadership team to drive operational excellence and support the organization’s strategic objectives .

"The Board and Management also extend their deepest appreciation to Mr. Umar Ajiya and Ms. Oritsemeyiwa A. Eyesan for their outstanding dedication and service to NNPC Limited.

"NNPC Limited remains committed to achieving operational excellence, enhancing global competitiveness, and ensuring financial sustainability, while prioritizing the interests of the Nigerian public in the petroleum industry.

N'Delta, Industry Stakeholders Welcome Eyesan, Ajiya's Sack

N'Delta, Industry Stakeholders Welcome Eyesan, Ajiya's Sack

By Mohammad Yau

The Spokesman of Niger Delta Consultative Assembly (NDCA), Sylvester Utuedon, described the sack of Eyesan and Ajiya as "bold and courageous."

A press release issued on Friday reacting to the new development, the various Niger Delta Stakeholders and groups commended the removal of the two duos , further describing them as "good riddance to bad rubbish '.

There was unusual jubilation at the headquarters of Nigeria National Petroleum Company limited ( NNPCL), on Thursday, over the sack of the Executive Vice President(Upstream ) Oritsemeyiwa  Eyesan and the Chief Financial Officer, Umar Ajiya.

The Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), on Wednesday night, expelled the duo in a management shake- up and consequently appointed their  replacements.

The sacked officers have roundly been accused of being a cog in the wheel of progress and believed to be antagonistic to the leadership of the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, Engineer Mele Kyari .

This was also corroborated by the reactions of staffers who welcomed the positive development.

"The staffers of NNPCL, who, were seen discussing the development in groups noted that the  board acted swiftly to save the company from the antics of the sacked officers. "

"It will be recalled that the sacked officers had been on a collision course with Kyari, in what was seen as power tussle ."

Eyesan and Ajiya were engaged in unholy moves to unseat and replace Kyari.

"Rather than working collaboratively to achieve the set goals of the company, Eyesan and Ajiya engaged in unsavoury activities to sabotage and  discredit Kyari in grandplan to plot his disgraceful exit from office."

"The new appointment, according to NNPCL's spokesman Olufemi Soneye, was to  reflect the  continued dedication to enhancing corporate governance, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term success in Nigeria's energy sector."

"In the new dispensation as announced by Soneye, Mr. Adedapo Segun replaced Ajiya while Udobong Ntia, was appointed to succeed the embattled Eyesan."

"Many employees of NNPCL were in joyous mood on Thursday when the report of the sack of duo was made public."

"They described their sack "as long overdue."

"The Executive Vice President (Upstream), NNPCL, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan and the Chief Financial officer of the company, Umar Ajiya, have long constituted a nuisance in the wheel of progress of NNPCL. Instead of them to work in synergy with other board members to achieve the goals set for the company by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they are pre-oocupied with intrigues to ease out the GCEO, Engineer Mele Kyari and take over from him."

"They are not interested in the discharge of the duties of their offices but daily engage in activities to bring Mele Kyari into disrepute and pull down the roof. Two of them are just after Kyari’s office, which has not been declared vacant by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who solely has the power to hire and fire our GCEO."

"They opposed major policy decisions aimed at achieving far-reaching results at the board meeting just to ensure that the board and management of the company fail in their endeavours. So, it's a good development that they have been asked to go eventually."

"We thank the board for this courageous and bold move, which would consequently generate positive outcome. We are excited about their disgraceful exit, which is long overdue. It's a good radiance to bad rubbish."

"We are overjoyed. The company can now move forward in all its patriotic endeavours in aid of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed  Tinubu," one of the elated workers of NNPCL excited stated in Abuja on Thursday.

Similarly, Niger Delta and industry stakeholders have also welcomed the exit of Eyesan and Ajiya from the board of NNPCL.

According to them, their exit will stabilize the industry going forward, stating that they were necessary distractions .

"With their exit, various stakeholders were unanimous that NNPCL's could henceforth move in steady progression to achieve set goals and objectives."

They lamented the delay in booting out the duo from the board of the strategic board.

"A senior member of staff in one International Oil Company (IOC),  who pleaded that his name should not be mentioned in print, said, "We applaud the removal of these guys from the board of NNPCL. Their sack would ensure ease of doing business in the oil industry."

"These two guys have negatively impacted the board because of their antagonistic tendencies and deliberate attempts to pull down the roof. With their presence on the board, NNPCL find it difficult to push through in vital business decisions. It's a good thing that they have been pushed out. The board of NNPCL can heave a sigh of relief and move forward with the new numbers of the board, who are expected to tow progressive path," the oil worker, who didn't want his name in print, stated.

We Remain Committed To Attainment Of Over 2 Million BPD - Tantita

We Remain Committed To Attainment Of Over 2 Million BPD - Tantita

Ecomiums have been pouring in for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and a private security outfit, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) as the nation's crude oil production hit 1.8 millions barrels per day (1.8m bpd)

The board and management of NNPCL, which announced the feat on Thursday, also disclosed that gas production has also risen to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (7.4bscfd).

Stakeholders have hailed NNPCL and private security agencies hired to safeguard the nation's economic assets, especially Tantita, for achieving the feat.

Tantita has lately led a relentless war against crude oil theft and pipelines' vandalism, pursing oil thieves out of the nation's coastal environment as well as seizing and confiscating their equipment of illicit trade.

It was gathered that most of the oil thieves abandoned the nefarious business in the wake of the onslaught and ceaseless heat by the operatives of Tantita security services positioned in the coastal axis of the Niger Delta.

These collaborative efforts with other state actors significantly contributed to the latest rise in the quantum of production of crude  and gas resources.

It was gathered that Tantita has initiated clampdown measures to keep the oil thieves at bay with a view to realising 2million bpd of crude oil production by the end of December, in conjuction with other industry stakeholders.

NNPCL's Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), who announced this at a press briefing on Thursday, said the feat was achieved in compliance with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Kyari  congratulated the Production War Room Team that anchored the production recovery process.

“The team has done a great job in driving this project of not just production recovery but also escalating production to expected levels that are in the short and long terms acceptable to our shareholders based on the mandates that we have from the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board,” Kyari stated.

Giving details of the efforts of the Production War Room, the Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser to the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lawal Musa, said the feat was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract partners, the Office of the National Security Adviser, as well as government and private security agencies.

He said the interventions that led to the recovery of production cut across every segment of the production chain, with security agencies closely monitoring the pipelines.

He stressed that when the Production War Room team was inaugurated on the 25th of June 2024, production was at 1.430 mbpd, but the team swung into action, culminating in it sustaining the production recovery to 1.7 mbpd in August and hitting the current 1.808 mbpd in November.

“We are confident that with this same momentum and with the active collaboration of all stakeholders, especially on the security front, we can see the possibility of getting to 2MBPD by the end of the year,” he added.

It will be recalled that the Chairman of TSSNL, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo,
while speaking during an award bestowed on him by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), promised to ensure that the daily crude oil production output continued to increase and boost the nation’s revenue.

“The only place I have to call my country is Nigeria, so I will do everything within my powers to see that crude oil production increases.”

Reacting to the latest feat yesterday, Tompolo, said he was excited to be part of the success story.

Tompolo, who spoke through his Special Adviser Media and Public Communication, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, said Tantita was committed to the realisation of 2mbp by December as directed by President Tinubu.

Tompolo said, "This milestone, as you know, was achieved in collaboration with NNPCL, security forces and of course, Tantita, which has been at the forefront of oil pipelines protection in the Niger Delta . We are determined to take it to 2mbpd before the year runs out as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu."

"All the needed machinery has been put in place to ensure that the target is achieved. No effort will be spared to ensure that the economy of Nigeria is galvanised."
"This will lead to a boost in government's revenue, thereby making more funds available for the President and his team to run the country effectively.  I am assuring you that we are not going to rest on our oars until the target is achieved and even exceeded."

"New technologies were being deployed to monitor the facilities with a view to ensuring  that there won't be any disruption and that the theft of Nigeria's commonwealth is halted."

"So the 1.8mbpd that it has got to, certainly by the end of the year, by God's grace, we will work to get it to 2mbpd and even exceed. We are working towards that," Tompolo assured through Bebenimibo.

UBEC: Driving Digital Innovation Hub To Fruition

UBEC: Driving Digital Innovation Hub To Fruition

By Abubakar Yusuf

The Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC and it's determination to provide a level playing ground for a robust technology and technological advancement in Basic Education hub to provide innovation , drives Initiative in line with the global community practices.

The recent convening of Basic Education stakeholders across the country was the determination to ensure all round transmission of the sector technologically towards meeting the demands of the global community.

With it's efforts and early decisions to migrate the commission from analogue to digital era, it is obvious that providing Basic Education with the technology hub, will attain not only the desired and expected templates, but drive the entire system towards its expectations.

The Multi billion Digital Resource Centre DRC initiated by the management of the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC under the leadership of Dr Hamid Bobboyi has perfected plans to turned around not only the centre, but it's activities towards realizing the Digital Innovation Hub idea.

This will allow the overhaul of our entire Education system, not relegated to only Basic Education, but will contribute greatly to Secondary, and the Tertiary Education with the already laid solid foundation from the basis.

With the stakeholders drawn from across the 36 states and FCT, relevant government Agencies, Ministries and Departments, the organised private sector, entities and volunteers in the area of technology transfer, no doubt the new Technology Hub and digital innovation will take Basic Education to the promise land .

With the attainment of digital literacy and advancement, alot of advantages and myriads of development not restricted to Basic Education alone , but expanded to other scope to develop other opportunities.

The integration of other areas as cutting edge technologies into Basic Education will facilitate quick  and access towards the goal of enhancing digital literacy.

The presence of both local and foreign partners, various relevant institutions, schools and colleges, universities among many others will leverage on the the new initiative to provide an enabling environment for easy access to automated activities.

UBEC's efforts was a right step in the right direction aimed at utilizing the huge investment provided at the new Digital Resource Centre DRC, which will further translate not only the rejuvenation of Basic Education, but to other relevant areas of National Development.

All hands must be on deck to support the new area geared towards more unique performance of Basic Education policies and programs to mitigate the economic, social importance of the new platform.

SDGs; Mulling Global Funding To Address 2020-2030 Agenda

SDGs; Mulling Global Funding To Address 2020-2030 Agenda

By Abubakar Yusuf

The Decade of Action Agenda is gradually approaching the climax , about five years to the global community decision to end not only multidimensional poverty, social inequality, gender disparity, economic quagmire among many others that encompassed the 17 SDGs goals .

The combination of domesticated efforts of the leadership of the SDGs in Nigeria under Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire as the Senior Special Assistant to the President SSAP -SDGs along with the international communities and collaboration with the sub-nationals was aimed at driving the program to fruition.

This has brought fore the global campaign by the United Nations and the United Nations Deputy Secretary General, UN-DSG , Ms Amina J. Mohammed advocating for more funding and supports both locally and globally.

Going by the magnitude of natural and artificial occurrences and global resurgence, the quest by the leadership of the global body at the UN level for more supports in terms of funding by Federal, State , Local Government, along with Private Sector, Civil Society Organisations CSO's, Non Governmental Organizations NGO's ,  Corporate, privileged and Multinationals had become imperative.

The recent pronouncement by the global body for the need to redouble the funding of the global program domesticated in Nigeria to the tune of $10 Billion annually, will ameliorate in greater stead the execution of not only laudable programs that will improve the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, but bridge the wider gap of poverty ridden society prevalent in all parts of the country.

For raising this alarm towards the achievement of the decade of action Agenda, 2020-2030 inspite the global community supports to the program, is an indicator of the need for government at all levels to show more religious commitment ,disposition and obligations towards achieving the targeted requirements in all areas .

With some level of quantum supports from the federal lawmakers through domiciliation of constituency projects , apathy from sub-nationals, particularly states and local government, through  refusal to fund counterpart arrangements, and seamless efforts from the handlers of the program in Nigeria, the desire for more government fundings, international intervention cannot be overemphasized.

The proposed $10 Billion annual funding , which is dependent on the reliable and meticulous leadership, financial prudence displayed under the current leadership of Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire who is determined to take the country not beyond 2020-2030 Agenda, but to Eldorado in all areas of social stratification.

The desire for more funding beyond the proposed UN proposal as advocated by the United Nations Deputy Secretary General UN-DSG, Ms Amina J. Mohammed will even be more glaring considering the effects of the debilitating three C's, which ranges front "COVID, CONFLICT and CLIMATE" and it's consequences locally and globally.

Aside all these negativity,  natural and artificial occurrences, the need to double budget allocation to SDGs for domestic purposes stemmed towards the local efforts through provision of health facilities and special centers from primary, secondary and tertiary, prioritizing the provision of Quality Education through mass intervention with building and renovation of schools spanned from basic, primary, secondary and tertiary institution's, an indicator of the workability of the global SDGs Goal 3 and 4.

Provision of quality social amenities and services through intervention, were many boreholes were built and renovation was carried out to meeting the global requirements and revolution, as well as women parity, empowerment, skill development and advancement, as well as capacity building of the women in line with the global provisions to achieving the 17 SDGs goals.

The concerted efforts to ameliorate the global program of 17 SDGs goals and impact on the ordinary Nigerians in line with the 2020-2030 Agenda , with agreement from sub-nationals, private advisory groups PSAG, the international communities must show alot of willingness.

While advocating the global community funding beyond the current stead, the position of UN SDGs as a global managers and administrators, was envisaging the precarious situations prevalent across the globe, and the need to make provision for any eventualities, particularly from the already heightened three C's prevalent across the globe.

Beyond the global advocate for more funding, government at all levels particularly states and local government whose efforts are at a low ebb , aside funding, but adequate attention towards resolving the social disequilibrium across the globe with Nigeria not left out.

All hands must be on deck considering the huge impact of all round development status of the leadership of SDGs in the country, the position of the UN-DSG should be considered without further delay , so as to take the global crises and resolution beyond 2020-2030 Agenda.

... calls on CBN to investigate payment claims

The Coalition for Economic Liberation and Transformation (CELT) has raised alarm over alleged N3 Trillion fuel importation fraud traced to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited's (NNPCL) and some of its business partners in the last  42 days.

This revelation came to light during a press conference held in Abuja on November 15, 2024.

According to CELT, Nigeria imported 1.5 million metric tonnes of premium motor spirit, 414,018 metric tonnes of diesel, and 13,500 metric tonnes of aviation fuel between October 1 and November 11.

Henry Owolabi, the Executive Director of the coalition criticized NNPCL's Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kolo Kyari, for prioritizing fuel importation over domestic refining, despite the availability of local refineries.

The Dangote Refinery, with a capacity to process 650,000 barrels of oil daily, is one such refinery that could significantly reduce Nigeria's reliance on foreign fuel.

CELT questioned Kyari's decision-making process, citing the detrimental impact on Nigeria's economy and currency.

The coalition accused Kyari of sabotaging domestic refineries and undermining the Central Bank of Nigeria's policies aimed at strengthening the naira.

CELT demanded Kyari's immediate sack and urged the Central Bank to halt further payments for fuel importation.

Furthermore, CELT called on regulatory agencies to verify the quality of imported fuel and investigate financial claims.

The coalition emphasized the need to prioritize domestic refining, highlighting benefits such as significant cost savings, energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

Owolabi added: “Kyari and his fake fuel-importing associates have successfully rubbished the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)'s policies targeted at strengthening the Naira. They mopped up the limited dollars that would have gone into procuring manufacturing-related imports.

“The irresponsible importation, which is compromising the naira, borders on criminal when one recalls that President Bola Tinubu, personally, intervened to broker the naira sale of crude oil to Indigenous refineries to reduce the pressure on Nigeria’s currency and make refined products more affordable. Kyari and his lackeys insult our president by persisting in this criminal trade.

“Kyari's leadership role in the fuel importation racket perhaps explains why he has deliberately sabotaged the nation's investments in the three major government-owned refineries in the last two years. Why would a man who has not allowed our refineries to work be allowed to continue to lead the NNPCL?

“Additionally, this importation has severe economic consequences. The money used for importing fuel could be effectively utilised in areas, like healthcare, education and infrastructure.

“The government and other appropriate bodies must promptly tackle these concerns. They must emphasise the importance of boosting manufacturing and supporting our refineries to function at their potential.

“Consequently, the Coalition for Economic Liberation and Transformation urges the CBN to stop further payments to Kyari's cronies in the name of fuel importation. Those who persist in importing what is readily available locally should bear the brunt of sourcing the foreign exchange to pay for their indulgence.

“Furthermore, our Coalition demands that Kyari be sacked without hesitation to restore the industry’s transparency and accountability and to prevent the NNPCL CEO and his associate from spreading contagion to other sectors of the economy.

“Finally, we demand that the necessary regulatory and anti-graft agencies step in to arrest the anomaly around fuel importation.“

Suswam At 60: You Are The First Politician That Gave Me Financial Support

...I Wish You A Blissful Birthday And Many Years Ahead

By Terfa Naswem

Your Excellency, Sen. Dr. Gabriel Torwua Suswam,

I wish you a blissful birthday anniversary as you clock 60 years on planet earth. May God Almighty in His infinite grace and mercy, continue to guide and protect you in all your daily activities and grant you long life and prosperity.

My predilection for you began since you were a member of the House of Representatives for Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency in Benue State.

When you were elected in 1999 to represent your constituency in the National Assembly, you made commendable and memorable impact on your constituents. One of the things you did was the scholarship you gave to students of higher institutions from your constituency. Some of my friends significantly benefited from it.

In 2006 when you were given the ticket to contest for governor of Benue State, I supported, campaigned and voted for you in the 2007 gubernatorial election. That was when I began active political participation. In your first term in office, you made commendable impact on Benue State. You rehabilitated and reconstructed the roads and streets in Makurdi and other parts of Benue State.

In September 2008 when you awarded the contract for the installation of solar street lights to Solex, a reputable company in electrical installations for the provision of solar panels along Makurdi major roads and streets, I also participated in the installation of the solar street lights from September to November 2008 and made some money from it which helped me to put so many things in order.

In March 2011 when you went to Jos to obtain your PhD in Law from the prestigious University of Jos, I was one of those who covered the convocation ceremony as a practicing journalist from Department of Television Journalism, NTA Television College, Jos, Plateau State where I obtained my Diploma in Television Journalism.

You gave me Ten Thousand Naira  (N10,000) including ten of my school mates in NTA Television College at the reception venue which took place at Gyado White House after Secretariat Junction in Jos. You became the first politician that I directly benefited from financially. The money, as a student helped me so much to fix some issues I had which enhanced the completion of my programme in 2012. You played a part to my success in journalism.

The Television Journalism Students' Association (TEJOSA) T-shirt of NTA Television College, Jos, Plateau State that I wore in the attached photograph was the exact T-shirt I wore when I covered your convocation in Jos 13 years ago.

When you became the governor of Benue State, you made commendable impact, although you had your shortcomings which affected you from living up to the general expectations of the good people of Benue State.

You touched my life directly and indirectly, that is why I have never cast aspersions on you or written any apocryphal story against you.

When you were at the National Assembly, you did so much for Zone A. I have a comprehensive list of all the projects and empowerment programmes you executed and I commend you for that.

I hold you in high esteem and will continue to do so irrespective of your political party or other affiliations.

Your birthday anniversary should rekindle your desire to continue to elevate the human race through the darkness to another mile!

Happy Birthday Anniversary!!

5 CSOs reject Coastal Guards Bill as Anti-Nigerian Legislation

5 CSOs reject Coastal Guards Bill as Anti-Nigerian Legislation

... Say Proliferation of Armed Forces will escalate security issues in Nigeria

Five civil society organizations in the country have strongly rejected the Nigerian Coast Guard Bill currently before the National Assembly as anti-Nigerian.

The Coalition in Support of National Security Advancement (CSNSA) at a world press conference held in Abuja said the bill is an attempt to amend the constitution through the backdoor by creating another arm of the Armed Forces.

The groups raised concerns over national security, economic implications and constitutional conflicts.

In a joint address by Okwa Dan and Bilal Abdulahi, the coalition also highlighted the economic burden of establishing a Coast Guard which would require significant funding, potentially diverting resources from the Nigerian Navy.

Furthermore, the CSNSA emphasized constitutional issues, noteworthy to state that the proposed Coast Guard contradicts Section 217 of the Nigerian Constitution, which recognizes only the Army, Navy, and Air Force as branches of the Armed Forces.

Instead, the CSNSA proposed strengthening the Nigerian Navy and establishing a civilian-controlled maritime agency to handle non-military duties.

While urging the National Assembly to discard the bill, the groups said the legislation was not in the best interest of citizens hence the sponsors must apologise.

“We call upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly leadership to carefully consider the demands of our country's present security, economic realities, and constitutional obligations. Several important issues have been brought to light by our thorough analysis of the Coast Guard Bill as well as observations from regional and global perspectives,” the statement said.

“However, the Nigerian Navy's function and responsibility overlap is one of the main problems. It is noteworthy to start that, International acclaim has been given to the Nigerian Navy for its successful management of marine security, which includes law enforcement, counter-piracy, and hydrographic services.

“Moreover, establishing a new Coast Guard can lead to potential jurisdictional conflicts and operational inefficiencies; examples from the US, UK, and South Africa show how different duties might prevent such overlaps. Nigeria's unique resources and structure, however, don't seem well adapted to implementing this distinct strategy exemplified by these countries, considering Nigeria’s present effort in stabilizing the economy.

“The proposed Coast Guard Bill has been observed to bring up issues of command organization and constitutionality. The Nigerian Constitution's Section 217 recognizes only the Army, Navy, and Air Force as branches of the Armed Forces.

“Thus, creating a second military duty would necessitate constitutional amendments, and could create legal ambiguities. Unity of command is essential during emergencies, and military service under a civilian ministry may make this more difficult.

“Furthermore, we discovered that the costly burden of building a Coast Guard is exacerbated by Nigeria's economic constraints. To put it in perspective, the U.S. Coast Guard spends more than $13 billion a year. It seems like a more effective and long-term option would be to use these funds to bolster the Nigerian Navy.

“Additionally, the Coalition in Support of National Security and Advancement believes that the proposed Coast Guard under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy would create a complex administrative structure that could lead to inefficiencies.

“Specific security requirements that might not fit into a single framework are being addressed by each agency, and thus operational inefficiencies may also result from the Coast Guard's administrative complexity when placed under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

“Under the Ministry of Defense, military services typically need a rigid chain of command. A civilian-led command structure for a military service could result in contradictory orders, compromising Nigeria's ability to respond timely to security threats. Rather than strengthening security, the Coast Guard, as proposed, may exacerbate threats.

“Given these worries, we humbly request that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly consider increasing the support to the Nigerian Navy as a step which would be a practical way to improve maritime security without adding more red tape.

“Secondly, Nigeria would be able to handle non-military duties more effectively, openly, and responsibly if civilian control for non-military maritime functions were given priority. For a better replacement for establishing a Military Coast Guard, Nigeria might set up a civilian-run organization to manage tasks like environmental protection, customs enforcement, and search and rescue.

“In addition to avoiding duplication of Navy operations, this strategy would be in line with global best practices. Finally, it is crucial to adhere to constitutional limits by making sure that any reorganization of Nigeria’s maritime security does not conflict with the 1999 Constitution.“

... vow to mobilise citizens against Bill at public hearing as an anti-Nigeria agenda

BY Dansu Peter
The Coalition in Support of National Security Advancement (CSNSA) has rejected the Nigerian Coast Guard Bill, currently before the National Assembly, citing concerns over national security, economic implications, and constitutional conflicts.

The proposed legislation aims to establish a specialized maritime security agency.

The CSNSA which made this known at a press conference argues that creating a new Coast Guard may duplicate existing duties of the Nigerian Navy, jeopardize national security, and reduce administrative effectiveness.

In a joint address, Okwa Dan and Bilal Abdulahi also highlight the economic burden of establishing a Coast Guard, which would require significant funding, potentially diverting resources from the Nigerian Navy.

Furthermore, the CSNSA emphasized constitutional issues, noting that the proposed Coast Guard contradicts Section 217 of the Nigerian Constitution, which recognizes only the Army, Navy, and Air Force as branches of the Armed Forces.

Instead, the CSNSA proposed strengthening the Nigerian Navy and establishing a civilian-controlled maritime agency to handle non-military duties.

They urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly to reconsider the bill, emphasising the importance of constitutional adherence, effective resource allocation, and national security sensitivity.

"It is crucial to adhere to constitutional limits by making sure that any reorganization of Nigeria’s maritime security does not conflict with the 1999 Constitution," the statement said.

"Although the Army, Navy, and Air Force are the only three branches of the armed forces recognized by the Constitution, the proposed Coast Guard would legally be an additional department under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, classified as a military service.

"Adding a new branch without a constitutional amendment could lead to serious legal problems and threaten the rule of law. In Section 217 of the Nigerian Constitution, the existing framework gives the armed forces a defined structure and establishes the guidelines for Nigeria’s defense policy.

"In order to avoid any conflicts within the country’s security and military systems, establishing a fourth branch such as a militarized Coast Guard would need a careful legal scrutiny.

"In the event of a national emergency or conflict, concerns about the Coast Guard’s legal authority, responsibility allocation, and chain of command may surface in the absence of constitutional clarity.

"Furthermore, circumventing constitutional processes to create a new branch might erode the security services' legal basis in Nigeria, which could result in disjointed command structures and inefficiencies within the armed forces .

"The Coalition in Support of National Security and Advancement believes that improving marine safety through the reinforcement of Nigeria's current security frameworks is a more viable and long-term solution than establishing a distinct Coast Guard.

"It is imperative that this fervor is tempered with a deep understanding of the nuanced challenges facing the nation at the moment. Our position demonstrates a dedication to constitutional observance, effective resource allocation, and sensitivity to matters of national security.

"Establishing a new, independent Coast Guard may seem appealing on the surface, but the practical implications suggest that a more integrated, resource-efficient, and constitutionally aligned approach would be far more beneficial for Nigeria’s long-term security and economic stability.

"We support the Nigerian Navy and encourage all parties involved to carefully weigh these insights because today's choices will determine the type of destiny we desire for the Nigeria of our future."

Civil Society Demands Presidential Action As Wike Allegedly Orchestrate Secret 500-Hectare Land Grab For Private Estate

Civil Society Demands Presidential Action As Wike Allegedly Orchestrate Secret 500-Hectare Land Grab For Private Estate

A civil society group, Integrity and Transparency Watchdog, has called on the President and Commander-in-Chief President Bola Tinubu to stop the alleged  move  by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike to allocate a newly created Plot No. 267, encompassing a substantial 500 hectares in Usuma District to a private entity.

The group also called on members of the National Assembly to assert their oversight role and protect citizens from this form of administrative overreach.

The group in a statement on Monday signed by Dr. Ibrahim Sodangi, claimed that Wike’s  secretive  moves underscores concerns that such maneuvers not only circumvent due process but also reflect a larger disregard for transparency and equity in the management of public lands.

Recall that Wike, recently issued plot allocation papers to Radcom Nigeria Limited in the Lugbe area of Abuja shortly after demolition activities began there.

In October 2024, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) initiated the demolition of duplexes and bungalows in Sabon Lugbe, led by Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the FCTA's Department of Development Control. Initially targeting 10 buildings, the demolition ultimately involved nearly 50 structures.

The move drawn strong criticism from residents and estate developers, who claim the demolitions were conducted without prior notice, displacing hundreds of people. They allege the demolition serves as a form of intimidation and oppression, accusing Wike of reallocating the land to his allies and associates.

Similarly, the civil society group said ‘‘This  particular 500 hectares in Usuma District has already been allocated, with numerous lawful occupants holding valid Rights of Occupancy as authorized by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). Many of these occupants have invested significantly in the area, paying rent and contributing to its development.’’

The group further warned that ‘’seizing land from these rightful owners to favor a private estate not only breaches established norms but could also establish a dangerous precedent for future land allocations, potentially jeopardizing public trust in the FCT’s land governance system.’’

Sodangi expressed deep apprehension about the minister’s alleged actions, describing ‘‘them as a blatant abuse of authority.

"We are witnessing the creation of new plots from previously allocated land, disregarding the rights of current landholders and disrupting lives," Dr. Sodangi stated.

Sodangi also said,  ‘‘The minister’s decisions are perceived as not only unlawful but fundamentally unfair, with significant implications for those who have staked their livelihoods in Usuma District.’’

The group also claims that ‘‘official documentation for the newly created Plot 267 is already being processed under Wike’s directive, raising fears that this allocation may soon be formalized despite the outcry.

‘‘Current landholders in the district have been left in limbo, facing potential displacement and the loss of investments they have poured into developing their plots. ‘’
The group argues that these tactics undermine the integrity of land administration, and could deter investors and citizens alike, as trust in land governance systems erodes.

Sodangi reminded Wike that his position is not permanent, as he cautioned against the use of ‘‘public office to make unilateral decisions that could damage public trust for years to come.
He  called on the President, the National Assembly, and other key stakeholders to ensure that the rule of law prevails and that the rights of citizens are upheld.
