JUST IN: At Last, Trump Concedes Russia Hacked Into U.S. Election

JUST IN: At Last, Trump Concedes Russia Hacked Into U.S. Election

Trump Concedes Russia Hacked Into U.S. Election
After several weeks of denial over the involvement of Russia in the U.S. presidential election, incoming President Donald Trump has finally conceded that the Russians actually carried out the hacking.

Trump, who spoke at his first press conference monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria however denied that he had links with Russia over the hacking to sway the election in his favour.

When asked by a reporter as to what he would say to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the hacking, he responded: “He shouldn’t have done it. I don’t believe he will be doing it more.

“As far as hacking, I think it was Russia. But I think we also get hacked by other countries and other people”, he said.

He promised to protect the U.S. cyber space when he assumes presidency on Jan. 20, berating the Democratic Party for doing a poor job in defending its systems.

“And we’re going to put those minds together, and we’re going to form a defense. And I have to say this also — the Democratic National Committee was totally open to be hacked.

“They did a very poor job. They could have had hacking defense, which we had. And I will give Reince Priebus credit because when Reince saw what was happening in the world and with this country, he went out and went to various firms and ordered a very, very strong hacking defense.

“And they tried to hack the Republican National Committee, and they were unable to break through. We have to do that for our country. It’s very important.”

The President-elect, however, dismissed reports that Russia had his dossiers, saying they would have released it if they had.

“Well, you know, President Putin and Russia put out a statement today that this fake news was indeed fake news. They said it totally never happened.

“Now somebody would say, “oh, of course he’s going to say that” — I respected the fact that he said that. And I will be honest, I think if he did have something they would have released it. They would’ve been glad to release it.”

He also, in a rare case, condemned Putin’s action, saying “hacking is bad” and that he should not be doing it.

“He shouldn’t be doing it. He won’t be doing it. Russia will have much greater respect for our country when I’m leading than when other people have led it. You will see that.

“Russia will respect our country more. He shouldn’t have done it. I don’t believe that he will be doing it more now.”

Trump described Putin’s likeness for him over Democratic Hillary Clinton as an asset.

“Well, if Putin likes Donald Trump, I consider that an asset, not a liability because we have a horrible relationship with Russia.

“Russia can help us fight ISIS, which by the way is number one tricky. I mean, if you look, this administration created ISIS by leaving at the wrong time. The void was created, ISIS was formed.

“If Putin likes Donald Trump, guess what folks? That’s called an asset not a liability. Now I don’t know that I am going to get along with Vladimir Putin,” he said.

REVEALED: Why Senate Sacked Ndume, ...The 'Coup', The EFCC Conundrum, How Saraki Used Him As Sacrificial Lamb

REVEALED: Why Senate Sacked Ndume, ...The 'Coup', The EFCC Conundrum, How Saraki Used Him As Sacrificial Lamb

ALI NDUME AND SARAKI
For speaking against the Senate over its failure to confirm the appointment of the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, members of the All Progressives Congress caucus in the chamber on Tuesday sacked the Majority Leader, Ali Ndume.

He was replaced with Senator Ahmed Lawan, who had been nominated by the APC to be President of the Senate, a position Senator Bukola Saraki is occupying.

Towards the end of plenary on Tuesday, Saraki, who presided over the session, read a letter written to him by the APC caucus in which its leadership was changed.

The letter read, “This is to inform Your Excellency and the Senate that after several meetings held on Monday, 9th of January, 2017, and upon due deliberation and consultation, the APC caucus of the Senate hereby wishes  to notify you of the change in the leadership of the Senate, that the new Senate Leader is now Senator Ahmad Lawan, representing Yobe North Senatorial District.”

Ndume, who rushed to the Press Centre of the Senate shortly after the announcement, said the development caught him unawares.

He said, “Let me say I don’t have much to say because I was leading the business of the Senate and when it was like 12.45pm, as usual, I asked my deputy (Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah) to stand in for me while I go to pray.

“On coming back, I discovered that the session was over and one of your colleagues (journalists) approached me and said, “Leader, what happened?” And I asked what happened and he said there was an announcement of a change of leadership. I said I didn’t know. And at this point, that is the position. I didn’t know that there was change of leadership because I was not there; I went to pray and I didn’t know what actually happened and I cannot say much than that.”

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Sabi Abdullahi, who also briefed journalists after the plenary, said the decision was by the APC caucus and not the Senate as a whole.

He said, “…The Senate made the announcement and the announcement is self explanatory. Another leader was announced and as far as I am concerned, it is an announcement that somebody is announced as the new leader of the majority because it is the majority leader.”

A source close to the leadership of the Senate told one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity that members of the APC caucus were angered by Ndume’s recent activities in the Senate, one of which was his stance against the lawmakers, who rejected Magu’s nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari based on a security report by the Department of State Services, which indicted the nominee.

One of the pro-Lawan group of the APC senators under the auspices of the Senate Unity, Senator Kabir Marafa, however, told a select journalists after the announcement that the step was part of  the move to settle the dispute between Saraki, the Senate Unity Forum  and the APC leadership.

He said, “What you have seen today is just a culmination of all the pressure mounting over time.”

When asked why members of the caucus met in Ndume’s absence on the decision to sack him, Marafa stated that the rule did not make it compulsory for the former Senate Leader to have the knowledge of his sacking.

When asked if the APC had forgiven Saraki for hijacking the leadership of the Senate from the APC, Marafa said Ndume’s sacking was part of the moves to pacify the party.

Marafa also hinted that the caucus might be moving to reclaim Ekweremadu’s seat except the Deputy Senate President defected to the APC.

When asked how the APC would reclaim Ekweremadu’s seat if he failed to join the APC, Marafa retorted, “He will!”

Meanwhile, the APC has  supported  the replacement of   Ndume with  Lawan.

The APC, in a statement on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary,   Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, linked the development  to the party’s efforts to resolve the  crisis generated by the election of the Senate leadership.

It stated, “The party views this as concrete expression of faith by the APC Senate Caucus in our efforts to resolve the lingering issues that have trailed the election of Senate leadership.

“We believe this is a major step forward in our efforts to reunite the various interest groups in that Senate election, thereby presenting a common legislative front for our great party.”

Arms Deal: Why Fayose Must Be Arrested - CSOs

Arms Deal: Why Fayose Must Be Arrested - CSOs

A coalition of five anti-corruption Civil Society  Organizations under the auspices of Corruption and Democracy Watchers in Nigeria has given reasons why Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose must be impeached as well as prosecuted for his role in the arms deal scandal.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an interactive session by the coalitions in  Lagos  On the Theme “The Buhari Anti-Corruption Drive: An Assessment” said

It said the huge loss of innocent lives, destruction of the properties of Nigerians and the humanitarian crisis arising from this neglect of insurgency, railroaded by the looting of the $2.1 billion arms procurement fund are enough reasons to demand the arrest of the governor.

According to the comminque signed jointly by Comrade Abdulmalik Shaba, Chairman, Communiqué drafting Committee and Comrade Aisabo Tunde, Secretary,  Communiqué drafting Committee, the coalitions urged the EFCC in conjunction with the DSS to commence immediate investigation of the Governor, as immunity clause does not shield him from criminal probe pending his arraignment in court at the expiration of his tenure.

It said Governor Fayose  should be compelled to return the huge sums of money he allegedly looted from the arms procurement fund to the coffers of the Federal Government of Nigeria without further delay or Nigerians would be forced to massively protest against him to compel compliance.

The communique reads partly, "we are particularly irked at the amazing revelations on the looting and criminal diversion of the $2.1 billion arms procurement fund under the office of the former National Security Adviser (ONSA), headed by Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) (otherwise known as Dasukigate) voted for the purchase of arms and ammunitions to battle Boko Haram insurgency in Northeast Nigeria.

"It expressed concern at the slow pace of investigation and prosecution of the suspects involved in the Dasukigate and other corruption acts, by the judiciary, and urged security agents and the judiciary to expedite action on the pending cases in order to dish out justice to families affected by the insurgency.

"And that Nigerians and international community should enlist in the campaign of prevailing on Governor Ayodele Fayose to do the needful by coughing out the looted arms fund. Failure in this regard would imply the failing in assuaging the pains of humanity which suffered as a consequence of his criminal and wicked act on defenseless and vulnerable Nigerians.

Fayose Not Above IMPEACHMENT: I should Be Left alone, By Osuagwu Ugochukwu

Fayose Not Above IMPEACHMENT: I should Be Left alone, By Osuagwu Ugochukwu

My attention has been drawn to an outcry by Governor Fayose that certain former Governors and APC members are plotting to impeach him. Fayose had raised this alarm in a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria. I have also read some comments in social media that I may have a hand in the Plot to impeach Fayose.

To me Governor Fayose is not above being impeached. Any Governor can be impeached by His or her state house of Assembly and there is nothing undemocratic about it.The process for impeaching a Governor of a State in Nigeria is contained in Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.

Once provision of section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution is completed a Governor can be validly impeached upon a resolution to be adoptedby not less than two-thirds majority of all the member the State House of Assembly. Once adopted the Governor shall stand removed from office as from the date of the adoption of the report.

If the impeachment process succeeds in Ekiti state then Fayose stands removed as Governor. The office of the Governor will pass to the incumbent Deputy-Governor, and he will take the oath of office. Fayose should note that once he is impeached he loses immunity from arrest and prosecution and can be arrested by the IGP and prosecuted if there is any crime he may have committed.

There is no point running to the Chief Justice of Nigeria. The CJN cannot save him from impeachment which is a legislative process. Those who are linking me to the plot to impeach Fayose are wrong. Besides there is nothing unlawful if the Ekiti House impeaches Fayose by complying with the Constitution. Let Fayose face his cross alone .

Abuja women celebrate Boko haram victory
Thousands of market women as well as non governmental organizations on Friday took to the streets of Abuja to celebrate the defeat of Boko Haram by the Nigerian Army.

The procession started at the Wuse market to Garki before moving to Farmers market and making a final stop at the 3 arms zone where the leader of the group finally delivered a powerful appreciation speech to the President and the Chief of Army, Lt. General Buratai, the other service chiefs and all the officers and men of the Nigerian military for their relentless and selfless efforts.

In her address, the FCT Cordinator of the Africa Arise for Change Network, Lilian Cosmas who led the procession said Nigerians had never thought the day would come when "the blood sucking demons called terrorists" will take flight before the Army.

She said the street march is to show appreciation to the President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire military for the defeat of the terrorists.

According to Cosmas, the coalition will embark on a nationwide sensitization exercise to enlighten members of the public on how to remain vigilant and ensure that Nigerians assist the Nigerian Army to track every fleeing terrorist in the country.

She said the promises the President made while assuming office are already being fulfilled.

She said, "Beyond the anti-corruption crusade, the war on terrorism attained a crescendo on December 24 of last year when the Nigerian Army, under your able direction defeated Boko Haram by clearing out its "Camp Zero" in Sambisa Forest.

"Nigerians had never thought the day would come when the blood sucking demons called terrorists will take flight before the Army.  It took your leadership for us to acknowledge the truism that action speaks louder than voice.

"Mr President, we salute your directive that the fleeing terrorists should be tracked down and brought to justice. The implementation of this directive would send a clear message to insurgents in other parts of the country that there is always a price to pay for breaching the security of Nigeria. It is this reckoning that brought Boko Haram to its deserved end."

She said Nigerians are convinced beyond every reasonable doubt that Boko Haram no longer exists. She therefore commended the President and the Nigerian military for achieving such feat

She said further, "Our appreciations go to the entire Nigerian Army, family members of troops and other partners in progress that contributed to liberating Nigeria from the grip of evil .

"The presentation of Boko Haram's black flag to your Excellency by General Buratai was symbolic for us as it marked the a new beginning for the country to focus on development issues even as the military continues to fish out the fleeing fighters and their collaborators.

"It is the start of when anyone caught committing acts of terror should be swiftly treated as a common criminal and dealt with accordingly."

She expressed as sad the existence of "the people who wanted the anti-terror war to fail simply for them to be able to exonerate the historic failure of the past administration.

She however described them as "a few saddistic parts of the population, who while not being Boko Haram sympathizers or sponsors nonetheless derive a perverted pleasure from seeing the group unleash terror on the populace simply to denigrate Mr President's efforts at ending the insurgency."

She assured that the coalition will back the 'thank you' march with action by partnering and assisting the Federal Government to make sure that the country gets relief from  the menace of Boko Haram with 2016 and it does not rear its ugly head in our nation again.

She said the coalition will embark on sensitization exercise will involve its members going into major markets, transport hubs and public places in Kaduna, Kano, Yola, Jos, Minna, Sokoto, Birni-Kebbi, Ilorin, Lokoja, Okene, Ibadan, Enugu, Port Harcourt and other major cities  during the week with fliers to share to everyone to educate them on how they can contribute towards  preventing a resurgence of terrorism.

Year 2017 Resolution The South East Should Make, By Charles Ibekwe

Year 2017 Resolution The South East Should Make, By Charles Ibekwe

Year 2017 Resolution The South East Should Make, By Charles Ibekwe
It is usual for people to have resolutions with the arrival of a New Year and the several groups claiming to represent the interests of the Igbo nation in southeast Nigeria would do well to announce realistic resolutions for the year 2017. The resolutions should centre around advancing the geo-ethnic agenda without engaging in acts that amount to self harming. Self harming is precisely what all the groups –IPOB, BIM, MASSOB - that agitated for Igbo interests did in the preceding years.

Less than one week into the year it became apparent that the mistakes of 2016 would be repeated wholesale with the one month ultimatum issued by the Biafra National Guard, BNG, for the release of IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra) leader, Nnamdi Kanu failing which they will attack the government. It is inconceivable that one Ruben Okoro signed the statement issuing a threat to commit treason in his capacity as Public Relations Officer of BNG.

A few things are lost on these characters here. First, one does not threaten to attack a constitutionally installed government and not expect the relevant security institutions to act regardless of whether the southeast voted against that government enbloc; other nationals will hold the government responsible if it does not treat the BNG avowal to attack seriously.

Secondly, committing a crime in pursuit of forcing the government to release suspected insurgent from detention will inevitably attract repercussions. Furthermore, the notion of being 'freedom fighters' as these element want to portray themselves does not arise; they waived their right to use that label from the moment they began the expression of their grievances from the point of attrition as opposed to dialogue.

Part of the self harm being done in the region is such that people are not even able to objectively assess issues anymore. The Nigerian Army for instance launched Operation Python Dance in the southeast during the Yuletide and while it generated goodwill for the institution as it helped to curb the activities of criminals during the period, BNG's best input is to parody it. In the fixation to attack the state and the army the antagonists failed to realize that their geo-political zone celebrated Christmas and New Year without being under siege from kidnappers and robbers as was the case in the past. Much as the separatist elements are in denial.

Fortunately, the leaders of thought from the area inundated the Nigerian Army with accolades - governors, traditional rulers and clergymen were full of appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen. TY Buratai during a short working visit to the southeast. They showed the power of intellectual approach to issues.
Tragically, this capacity to approach issues intellectually using dialogue is one that is lacking among those agitating to commit crimes as one increasingly sees ethnic jingoists that cannot even make meaningful contributions to national debates online without resorting to calling Nigeria a 'zoo' and other ethnic nationals dismissed as 'animals in the zoo'. It is therefore not surprising that even the CSOs and NGOs pursuing the Igbo interest have taken on aggressive stance that has left them increasingly militarized like the other separatists groups.Even some groups that were hitherto nationalistic in outlook have been hijacked by ethnic warriors as in Campaign for Democracy (CD) that has now been reduced to a southeastern mouthpiece.

The devious intent for hijacking such NGOs can be seen in the use of CD to claim that 2000 persons have been killed by the state. No such deaths occurred anywhere and just like their counterparts in Amnesty International who claimed 150 deaths, the sudden jump in the figures given by CD has exposed the purposeful and deliberate disdain for federal authorities.

A statement issued by CD’s national publicity secretary, Dede Uzor, which made that claim made a futile attempt at looking nationalistic by exploiting the Southern Kaduna killings. One can only hope that the request to include IPOB and MASSOB members in the panel to investigate the Kaduna killings has nothing to do with attempts to cover up the allegations that some persons of Igbo ancestry fought as mercenaries on the side of the rampaging herders.

That demand for the National Assembly to include IPOB and MASSOB members on the investigative panel exposes the delusion that is prevalent among these separatist group whose members hallucinate about their phantom acceptability as mainstream entities. What parliament in the world would hobnob with insurgents? If that demand was meant as a devious way of worming their way into legitimacy then is dead on arrival. The best members of these outlaw groups can hope for from the National Assembly is for some selected lawmakers that would negotiate lesser punishments for their errant members.

There is a lesson for all the separatists groups in the southeast – IPOB, MASSOB, BIM, BNG, CD and just any other acronym that will join the growing list – Boko Haram fanatics started out with the same delusion of righteous sense of hurt but eventually ended up as something the entire world is eager to hear the last about. From the way the various separatists groups are behaving it is a matter of time before they attempt staging spectacular attacks as face saving measures once Nigerians begin to realize their threats are empty.
God forbid that things get to such sorry pass since the response to such provocation would be no lesser than the one given to Boko Haram. The difference would be that with the benefit of experience no one would wait until they get out of hand before acting.

It is therefore time for the Nigerian state to call time on this nonsense and say enough of the IPOB, MASSOB, BNG, and BIM distraction. They cannot threaten the government with a 30 day ultimatum for the release of Nnamdi Kanu who is facing trial before a competent court of law. If things were to work the way they are demanding then the clan members of every armed robber apprehended by law enforcement agents would threaten to bring the country down like these groups.

The lot therefore falls to the so-called human rigths NGOs, whether local or international to hold seminars and workshops to educate these would be hooligans what sovereignty means and the consequence of their action should they take up arms against the state. The separatist groups on their own should re-assess their option; perhaps they will come to the realisation that their current choices are hurting more than helping their interests. This should be their New Year resolution.
