The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba and the Zonal Organizing Secretary (ZOS, South South) of APC, Paul Obi have warmly welcome Senator Florence Ita Giwa who really dumped the People's Democratic Party, PDP for APC to the party.

Recall that Senator Ita Giwa, a former Presidential Adviser on National Assembly matters who was appointed as the Chairman of Cross River Port Authority by Governor Ben Ayade on Friday defected with over 1,000 supporters from the PDP to APC.

In a separate statement issued by the duo, they described the decision of Ita Giwa to move to the party as a great development that shows her commitment to deploy her wealth of experience in moving Nigeria forward.

Clara Braide, Special Assistant, Communication to the NDDC Chairman who signed the statement on his behalf quoted Ndoma-Egba as saying that “Your coming to the APC at this point in our fledgling democracy is a pointer to your sincere commitment to deploy your wealth of experience, with other democrats, for the betterment of your Region and the Nation as a whole”.

He expressed optimism that judging from Sen. Ita Giwa’s antecedents as a team player, grassroots mobilizer and party faithful, the APC’s gradual push to take over the South-South is progressively becoming a reality.

“We all are aware of the interesting political story of this great woman of note and how she has been able to galvanize the people of her community to pursue a course that they hold dear in a non-political and non-military way.

“The party can benefit from her immense wealth of experience and tap into her political structure for our parties greater good. She is a good catch. This move is a further endorsement for President Mohammadu Buhari”, the system reads.

Obi, in his part noted that her coming was a great boost to the dream of APC to takeover government from the PDP in the state and other South South states.

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dumped the opposition for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). 

Ita-Giwa made the crossover on Friday, April 7 in a very flamboyant ceremony. 

It was gathered that Ita-Giwa revealed on Thursday, April 6 that she is defecting to the APC with her huge supporters from her Bakassi constituency to boost the fortunes of the party in Cross River state.

Ita-Giwa, a former special adviser on National Assembly matters to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo said she is joining her contemporaries in the ruling party. P

Ita-Giwa, according to media reports said her decision to move was because she had been idle in the PDP for over one year. 

She was received with pomp and ceremony by the APC on Friday.

Ita-Giwa was elected senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District under the platform of the All Peoples Party from May 1999 to May 2003.

After leaving the senate in 2003, she joined the PDP, and became former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters.

The Acting state Chairman of APC, Mr. John Ochala, said her defection was a welcome development.

“It is a welcome development,” Ochala said. “Her crossing over to the APC is good. She should take her time to study and understand the party’s constitution.”

Also, a chieftain of APC, Mr. Paul Adah, said her defection would be a big boost for the APC in the southern senatorial district considering her massive supporters.

Adah also said that the contentious issue of resettling the displaced Bakassi persons would be speedily addressed following her defection to the APC.

“She is a big fish for the party. Her defection is the right decision at the right time. I see it as a great sign of appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the so many things that he has done to the people of Cross River State. With her defection, the resettlement problem of Bakassi will be conclusively handled,” he said.

Following the warning from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC that all appointees of President Muhammadu Buhari to desist from making inflammatory statements capable of stoking executive-legislature tension, the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, PACAC, Prof. Itse Sagay said fired back at the party immediately, saying it can’t tell him what to do as he is not an APC appointee, adding that the party is “just compromising with evil.”

Sagay said he was not an appointee of the party and, as such, the party cannot tell him what to do. 

The party specifically took exceptions to comments credited to the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, PACAC, Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN; describing the lawmakers’ actions as childish and irresponsible and warned Sagay to exercise restraint and desist from attacking the Senate.

But Sagay fired back at the party immediately, saying it can’t tell him what to do as he is not an APC appointee, adding that the party is “just compromising with evil.” The warning is part of the efforts of the party to resolve the feud between the Presidency and the Senate following a battery of meetings with the APC caucus in the National Assembly. 

“In furtherance of the All Progressives Congress efforts to resolve the rift between the Executive and the National Assembly, the APC urged all government appointees to stop making statements that may further worsen the relationship between the two arms of government and derail the party’s efforts to make peace. 

“Specifically, the party urges Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC) to exercise restraint and desist from making utterances that may be misconstrued as an attack on the institution of the National Assembly”, the APC said in a statement, yesterday, by its spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi. 

While Sagay had described the actions of lawmakers as childish, for which the Senate had summoned him, a move he has asked senators to withdraw or face litigation, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Babachir David Lawal, described some parliamentary resolutions as “absolute balderdash.” 

On his part, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, a retired army colonel had persistently refused to heed the Senate directives to appear before it in Customs uniform. While the APC fell short of calling out Lawal and Ali, it warned all government appointees, especially Sagay, to desist from abusing the Senate. 

“The Party wishes to reiterate its earlier position admonishing all elected or appointed officials of our government to desist from utterances that may endanger efforts to build harmonious relationship between the two arms of government. Prof. Sagay should not operate outside this admonition”, APC warned. 

The party was, however, silent on whether it has a mechanism for sanctioning those who flout its directives. Sagay must stop making enemies for Buhari and key into President’s plans It said: “The comments attributed to Prof. Sagay are uncalled for, regrettable and could further complicate the relationship between these vital arms of government. 

Our expectation would be that as a Law Professor of repute, Prof. Sagay would appreciate the need to not denigrate the institutions of democracy, be it the Executive, Legislature or Judiciary. 

“As an appointee of Mr. President, we should expect the learned Professor to key into his principal’s temper and help him to make friends that would make his job easier and not make enemies of people who, by virtue of the position they occupy under our law, are critical to the running of government and the nurturing of our democracy”. His posture on Senate summon unacceptable 

The Party said it, “specifically objects to the Professor’s call on the Senate to withdraw invitation extended to him. As someone appointed by our government, we find this kind of posturing unacceptable and potentially injurious to the peace efforts by the party.”

APC, however, praised President Buhari for rising above the fray and instituting a committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to mediate between him and the National Assembly. 

“The Party acknowledges the fatherly role being played by President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve outstanding issues with the National Assembly, by setting up a high-level committee led by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. 

The Party expresses happiness with the meeting it had with the Senate Caucus on Tuesday and is confident that all the issues raised will be addressed. It also urges the National Assembly to further intensify its efforts to ensure timely passage of the 2017 National Budget”, the statement added. 

Reacting to the APC warning, yesterday, Professor Sagay said he was not an appointee of the party and, as such, the party cannot tell him what to do. He disagreed  with the party’s statement that he was against the plans of President Buhari and insisted he would not honour the Senate’s summon. His words: “I am not an appointee of the APC. I don’t know where they thought they had the authority to tell me what I should do. 

I certainly will not honour it (Senate’s summons). My view about what we are doing is in consonance with what the President is doing. They (APC) are just compromising with evil. That is what the party is doing and they certainly will not get me to do that. 

I will continue with the original programme of Buhari to get rid of corruption in this country. I will not compromise.”

PDP Shrinks Further As Another Reps Member Cross-carpet To APC; Colleague Kicks

The strength of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, especially at the National Assembly further shrank today as a member of the House of Representatives from Benue State, Hassan Anthony, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr. Anthony’s defection was announced on the floor of the House at the start of Wednesday’s plenary.

The lawmaker who represents Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu constituency, cited division in the PDP as his reason for leaving.

Reacting to the defection, Nicholas Ossai (PDP-Delta) raised a point of order, urging the speaker to declare Mr. Hassan’s seat vacant.

“The Court of Appeal has on 17th February declared Modu Sheriff the authentic Chairman of the PDP, therefore there is no faction in the PDP,” Mr. Ossai said

But his argument did not see the light of the day as he was ruled out by the Speaker, telling him to bring a copy of the Court of Appeal judgement.

The defection of Mr. Hassan to APC has brought the number of APC representatives to 226 and that of PDP to 124.

Recall that in March last year, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kano State chapter had initiated moves to suspend him over what it termed anti-party activities.

The then chairman, Kano chapter of the party, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa, had told newsmen in Kano that the senator had, during a visit to the state, allegedly exhibited actions capable of compromising the party’s unity.

According to Doguwa: “The case of party indiscipline by Kwankwaso would be thoroughly investigated and dealt with in accordance with the constitution of our party.”

However, the true reasons why the Senator may have defected to the opposition party is yet to be ascertained.

It would be recalled that sometime in November 2013, 5 governors elected on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was an unprecedented move in Nigeria’s political history and formed the foundation for APC’s victory at the 2015 general elections.

The governors who led their supporters and political structures to APC were Governors Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers).

They were joined by other political heavyweights such as Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Senator Bukola Saraki, the then Speaker of the House of Representatives – Aminu Tambuwal, Shaba Lafiagi, Mohammed Ndume, Danjuma Goje, Abdullahi Adam, Bindo Jubrilla and Abdullahi Gobir.

Others include Dr. Samuel Ortom, former Speaker Aminu Bello Masari, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu and Barrister Simon Lalong. In fact, of the 17 state governors elected on the platform of APC in Northern Nigeria only 7 are not ex-PDP members

Speaking through its state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party expressed delight over President Buhari’s successful medical trip to London, adding that his return had vindicated its claim that the President was not terminally ill as being portrayed in some quarters opposed to the anti-corruption war of the APC-led Federal Government.

It also expressed appreciation to Nigerians who offered prayers and goodwill for the quick recovery of the president.

The party, which accused Fayose of a death wish for him, enthused that the governor “has been put to shame with Buhari’s arrival hale and hearty on Friday.”

It added: “We also commend the Presidency and the President for not dignifying Fayose with a response when he cynically requested Buhari

to call him to prove that he was alive.”

But, reacting, while speaking to newsmen when he signed a condolence register in honour of  late General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo, Governor

Fayose said: “Whether they say shame to us or they abuse me, good luck to the Presidents’ loyalists and APC. Nobody would wish President Buhari dead. What is important is that for the President to stay away for that long, anybody would feel concerned about it. So, we pray that may God give him the strength to do his job. He has a job to do, so we will continue to pray for him to be well to fix the economy, put food on our table, we cannot task a sick man on these challenges, we will continue to pray for him to be well and bring the dollar back to N200 or less.

“We don’t have power over life and we have to continue to thank God that the President is alive strong and back. Anybody can be sick whether you are young or old. What is important is that God should give him the strength to be alive and do what we expect him to do for our country. I just leant that he said he would be going back in a few weeks’ time we have to keep our fingers crossed.

Clarifying his earlier critical position Fayose said: “There is no doubt that age is not on his side like every other person and there are many health challenges that comes with aging. What is best is that we continue to pray for him because the Holy books say we should pray for our leaders in authority.”

President Muhammadu Buhari will officially resume work on Monday after being away from his desk for 52 days on medical vacation.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed this while clarifying a statement  by the president purportedly misconstrued by the public.

Adesina, through his twitter handle, @FemAdesina, said the president, who returned to the country yesterday after some weeks medical vacation in London, would on Monday transmit letter to the National Assembly to formally register his return to the country.

“…That makes his return to work formal, and constitutional,” the presidential spokesman said.

Likening the effects of corruption to a nation to that of cancer to human immune system, the APC chieftain added that not just stealing of public funds is corruption as Ethnicity, nepotism, selfishness, greed and godfatherism are all components of corruption and should be fought head-on.

He said that "no meaningful development can be achieved with endemic corruption. All developed nations frown seriously at the monster and bastard called corruption because corruption impedes progress, development and prosperity and is to a nation what cancer is to the body.

"It is corrosive, dangerous, and destructive. Ethnicity, nepotism, selfishness, greed and godfatherism etc are all enemies of rapid progress and accelerated development of any nation.

"The one solution to being like Dubai in UAE is for us all to resolve to do away these devils and we will be up there as an advanced, developed, modern and world class nation in just 10 to 25 years".

Ochicha recounted that "It took Dubai less than15 years to be what it is today, Malaysia 22 years, Singapore 25 years and China 30 years to be developed and world class. Give Nigeria just 10 to 25 years with the right, sincere, purposeful, focused, progressive, innovative, imaginative, creative and caring leadership, quote me, we will be like Dubai in UAE".

Explaining further on how government can recover looted funds he said that "The new devise to take this humongous amount of money back from the looters for me is simple. Grant all looters amnesty for their co-operation. Give them three months to willingly return all stolen funds.

"Failure to return the funds will attract stiff penalty. Tell their wives and children to persuade their fathers/mothers to return whatever they may have undeservedly stolen from the state treasury.

"Make it clear to them that public office is a public trust which must not be violated. Grant them a grace period of another two months  to return all stolen funds. Visit them with seizure of all stolen funds and properties acquired with stolen money for failure to comply and other punishments as may be considered necessary

"We have all it takes to be developed and world class. We can make it. Yes, we can with determination and focused leadership".

Another PDP NASS Lawmaker Defects To APC

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member of the House of Representatives from Akwa Ibom State, Hon Emmanuel Ukoette, on Wednesday, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter to the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara, notifying the House of his defection, which was read at the plenary, the lawmaker said he was leaving the PDP because of “irreconcilable” differences in the party which has led to its factionalisation.

The PDP is currently broken into two factions led by National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

Ukoete, who represents Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, said the other reason for his defection was “the string of legal battles”, trailing the leadership crisis in the PDP, which might end in “fiasco”.

Immediately the speaker finished reading the letter, APC members present at yesterday’s plenary swarm round Ukoete to welcome in into their fold, with chants of “APC, Change!”

As the APC members celebrated the new entrant into their caucus, the minority leader, Leo Ogor (PDP, Delta) raised a point of order.

While recognising Ogor, the Speaker, jocularly told the minority leader to specify which of the PDP faction, he belongs to before speaking.

Speaking on the defection of the former PDP member, Ogor said it was not true that the opposition party is factionalised.

Ogor said the defection of Ukoete would be challenged in court, so that the latter can go back for a fresh election and see if he could win an election on his new platform.

The minority leader added that “democracy is not about jumping ship”.

After the Ogor’s speech, shouts of “PDP, Power to the People!” by the opposition party legislators, rented the air.

Speaking on the defection, the majority leader, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) admonished Ogor to accept the lose with equanimity.

“I understand the feeling of the minority leader. But I believe that he should accept the lose and more to come,” he said.

EFCC Arrest: Gov. Mimiko's Plot To Abscond Before Handing Over EXPOSED

The All Progressives Congress  (APC) in Ondo State says it has discovered a plot by the outgoing Governor Olusegun Mimiko to proceed on vacation ahead of February 23 handover date. The Party Publicity Secretary, Abayomi  Adesanya, in  a  statement in Akure on Tuesday, alleged that Mimiko planned to abscond before the expiration of his eight years tenure.

He said, “If this happens, it will create complexities and pit-holes in the smooth take-off for incoming Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN). “Mimiko’s plan is designed to create complexity and pit-holes in the smooth take-off of the new administration as against the seamless transition he once promised. “Mimiko is making plans to relocate to Canada or China, thereby evading possible arrest by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for interrogation and prosecution and to launder his last minutes’ loots. “The governor has concluded plans to proceed on a 10-day vacation and to delegate power to his deputy to act as governor prior to the handing over date.

“He had transmitted a notification letter the state House of  Assembly under  the  leadership  of  the  former  Speaker, Ms Jumoke Akindele,  some  days  before  her  removal  from  office  over  N15 million fraud  allegation. “This arrangement failed because the  former  Speaker  could  not announce or read  the  governor’s  vacation  letter  at  the plenary as  a  result  of  her  removal.”

Adesanya alleged that Mimiko planned to sneak out of the country to a neighbouring country through the land border, before travelling through a chartered flight to either Canada or China. “We,  therefore,  call  on  security  agencies to beef-up security and surveillance in and around the country’s borders to prevent the outgoing governor  and  his  cronies from  escaping with alleged state’s looted funds,’’ he stated.

Reacting to the allegation, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, described it as the imagination of the writer. He said, “I’m a member of the transition committee and am aware that the governor and the governor-elect met three days ago to fine-tune the transition programme and they had useful discussion. “I am aware that there are lined up projects to be commissioned by the governor between now and the handover day, so if somebody is coming up

that the governor is planning to proceed on vacation, that means such person is coming from outer space. “This is concocted information. There is no iota of truth in what he is saying.”

2019: 7 Parties Join PDP Merger Talks; Falae, Balarabe Musa, Others Names Filter

Seven political parties reportedly in merger negotiation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of 2019 general elections, News Punch understands.

About two weeks ago, Chairman of the PDP Strategy Review and Interparty Affairs Committee, Prof. Jerry Gana, met with the SDP leader, Chief Olu Falae in Lagos.

The meeting might be in connection with the moves to merging with the SDP. At the submission of the committee’s final report to the PDP leadership yesterday, Gana announced that the initial contacts made by the committee “have yielded positive responses from seven people-focused and social democratic parties.”

He, however, said the meeting between the PDP National Caretaker Committee and leaders and selected delegates of the seven parties has “nothing to do with the rumoured mega party, but a separate and highly principled initiative of the PDP.”

According to Gana, “Our desire is to have all genuine democrats and friends of the people to flow together and provide a fresh and trustworthy leadership to promote and ensure a people-friendly process of national development.”

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, confirmed the meeting later at a press conference.

A source, who confided in our correspondent yesterday, said that PDP and PRP met penultimate Saturday and have raised a six-man Contact Committee each, for further negotiations.

“Professor Jerry Gana will head the PDP six-man committee, while the National Leader of PRP, Alhaji Balarabe Musa will head his party’s team,” the source confided in New Telegraph.

Although details of the maiden meeting, which held in Abuja about 12 days ago, remain sketchy, the source said that PRP had insisted on an alliance and not a merger because it wants to maintain its unique pro-masses ideology.

When contacted, Balarabe, a former governor of Kaduna State, confirmed that a meeting between his party and PDP actually held, but didn’t divulge the details.

He, however, told New Telegraph that: “PDP has approached us even before the 2015 elections. And we had an understanding that in the event that they lose the presidential election, we will come together to strengthen democracy in Nigeria. That time, they will be in the opposition.”

The chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, was specifically mandated to get across to Balarabe in order to sound him out on the possibility of working together.

It is still not clear what kind of alliance will exist between PDP and PRP, but another source said that the working relationship is aimed at making inroads in the North, the stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“In spite of the failure of the APC-led government, the masses still love President Muhammadu Buhari. Balarabe and PRP are also very popular in the North, so we intend to slice into Buhari’s heartland,” he revealed.

PDP had maintained that it is not part of the rumoured mega party and does not want to change its name.

Meanwhile, the submission of the Gana report attracted many founding fathers of the party. Among PDP elders present at the occasion included former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma; businessman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu; former Jigawa State governor, Dr. Sule Lamido and Ambassador Aminu Wali.

Chairman of PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, said the party’s leadership does not want to be distracted by the plan of people who want to make PDP remain irrelevant.

“We have been facing challenges. One of the ways evolved to hold PDP down and destroy opposition party in the country  was to tie us down and make us irrelevant by using the court to tie us down,” he added.

Makarfi said the party has realised its mistakes, which he stated include imposition of candidates and taking people for granted, which the report identified. He apologised on behalf of PDP leaders for these mistakes, and described the Gana report as “excellent”, which he added, would help in repositioning the PDP.

Ciroma, who felt elated at the gathering of members of the party since PDP lost the 2015 general elections, said he was convinced that the party is still alive.

“I feel very proud of being here. I feel proud of being involved with the PDP. I feel very proud of being one of the members who initiated the formation of this party.

And I can say today that the party is alive and well,” he said. Iwuanyanwu, who dismissed the report that he has left the PDP, described the Jerry Gana’s report as a very important milestone in the rebuilding process of the party.

Daily Times - An alleged plot to sack the All Progressive Congress National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a former vice president of the country, Atiku Abubakar has been revealed. 

The revelation was made by the embattled Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the political party, Comrade Timi Frank, who accused the National Chairman of the Party, Chief Oyegun of scheming to sack both chieftain of the party.

Timi Frank made this known in a statement released to journalist in which he warned the National Chairman against running the party like a dictator adding that the chairman and his review committee’s plan “is a grand plot against the national leader of the party, Bola Hammed Tinubu, myself and other leaders who oppose his leadership style.” 

The allegation comes on the heel of the review committee constituted by the National Chairman on Wednesday and headed by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire. 

The constituted committee was tasked with the duty of closely speedily neutralising members of the party who pose threats to the leadership of the party. 

Timi Frank in his release said: “Chief Oyegun is vigorously working to ensure that he pushes out some prominent members of the party including the National Leader Bola Tinubu, myself and so many other leaders who have spoken against his leadership style which is now more of a dictator.” 

He added that the National Chairman of the party was not right standing to talk about indiscipline “when he has breached the same constitution more than any other persons. His leadership has breached party constitution several times, even as regard to National Convention which the party law states clearly that it must be held every two years.” 

He continued: “Oyegun is talking about indiscipline when there are several allegations of bribery and favouritism yet unanswered hanging on his neck.” 

He further questioned the National Chairman;s plan to fill some vacant position in the NWC which he described as “non elective national convention.” adding that “some of us have prepared to meet them at the convention no matter the evil agenda they are planning against us.”

At its 73rd National Executive Committee (NEC) and Expanded Caucus Meeting in Abuja yesterday, the party leaders said the party was repositioning to be much more vibrant to play the role as main opposition in the country.

Blueprint - Indications emerged yesterday that the governors on the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), may have concluded plans to pass a vote of no confidence on the current National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

It was also gathered that the Chief John Oyegun leadership was not ready to hold a National Convention any soon, contrary to a press statement put out last week, for fear of being sacked.

Blueprint gathered that some of the governors involved in the plot have, however, begun a serious search for possible replacements of the current NWC members of the party.

A dependable source and a senior member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), who pleaded not to be named in print, said most of the APC governors, had lost confidence in their representatives and Oyegun’s general leadership style.

Already, the source said, “the current NWC had breached the party’s Constitution “which clearly states that National Convention must hold within every two years, but the reverse has been the case.

“Most of the current national officers are having one issue or the other against their governors. In Imo, Rochas Okorocha is not in the same camp with the National Organising Secretary, Osita, who is representing his state. In Kano, the current National Treasurer is a

core loyalist of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, which Governor Ganduje is not comfortable with.

“The same thing in Edo, the current National Chairman cannot continue to enjoy the support of Governor Obaseki because of the former governor’s interest in the same seat.

Abdulkadir, and the list goes like that. So, the current NWC members know these facts and they are just buying time.”

When reminded of the move by the party to hold National Convention in April, the chieftain who dismissed the statement, said: “It is only a tree you will tell that you are going to cut down and it would still be standing and waiting for you. The NWC members know that some party members are not happy with them, and would not risk to convoke the gathering of the party that would lead to their ousters.”

Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, had revealed during a visit to the party secretariat in the thick of the crisis between the NWC members and the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that the party leadership was in need of

“restructuring.”

However, in a statement issued by the new APC National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, last week, the party said the decision to hold National Convention not later than April, this year, was one of the outcomes of the NWC’s meeting which held last week at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The statement added that the processes leading to the National Convention would begin with the congress to fill vacancies in the state party structures across the country.

“The vacancies to be filled occurred principally from political appointments, deaths and resignations. The Congress to fill the vacancies would be followed closely by another Congress to nominate delegates into the mid-term non-elective Convention of the party.

“The Congresses will be followed by the National Caucus meeting, and finalised with the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, which will consider and set the dates for the National Convention, which is expected to hold not later than April of 2017.”

On Oyegun’s possible replacement, it was gathered that the former Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, had intensified efforts to become the number one party member.

It was gathered that the former governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Kazzim Afegbua, was at the party secretariat last week.

Although his mission was not known, a source said Afegbua, who was SA (media) to Oshiomhole, took time out to move round the party secretariat and some offices.

In a chat with journalists at the weekend, another chieftain of the party at the state level said: “As you know, some persons are angry with the National Chairman and these are people who are supposedly to finance the party.

“They believe that if Oyegun is removed, they can continue to finance the party and this is what some NWC members would like to see happen in the party.”

Former Senate President Ken Nnamani has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nnamani registered as a member of the APC in Amechi-Uwani, Enugu south local government area of Enugu state, on Sunday.

He became a member of the ruling party a day after Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, told south-east politicians that there is “no future outside the APC”.

Ben Nwoye, chairman of the Enugu chapter of the ruling party, had earlier advised politicians in the state to take advantage of the three weeks set aside for the registration of APC members in the south-east.

Nwoye also told journalists that his party was expecting the influx of old and new politicians from PDP.

“We have worked tirelessly since 2016 to build our structure, as well as convince these politicians to join us for a better Nigerian,” he had said.

“As it stands, we want the world to know that the PDP is in comatose in Enugu state, and we are fully prepared to wrestle power from them in 2019, because we have the structure.

“You will quite agree with me that all those politicians that made PDP tick in Enugu state in the past, including former governor of old Anambara state and ex- senator, Ifeanyichukwu Jim Nwobodo have all dumped the opposition party, for APC.”

Elected to the upper chamber of the national assembly in 2003, Nnamani emerged senate president in 2005, and held the position until 2007.

In October, the federal government named him head of a 24-man electoral reform committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The financial fortune of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has gotten worse even as the party now resulted to selling of about 100 bags of rice donated to it for staff during Christmas to raise fund.

This is coming even as the party National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, rejected proposed staff salaries increments made to him by the party’s Director of Administration.

It was gathered that some APC governors and chieftains had donated hundred of bags of rice during the Christmas and New Year celebrations for the party to distribute for its staff but decided to sell about 100 bags at rate of N14,500 each.

Some aggrieved APC staff who spoke with our correspondent revealed that more than 200 bags, 20 cows, chickens and Turkey were donated to the party late last year with high expection that it will would be share to the staff but the party acted contrary.

One of them accused the party Director of Administration Abdullahi Kari, of being the brain behind how the party sold the 100 bags of rice.

“Many of us were shocked when we resumed this January to discover that more than 100 bags of rice had disappeared from the store where these bags of rice were kept.

“But when we asked questions we were told that Alhaji Kayri, who is the director admin, came one Saturday morning and sold 100 bags at rate of N14,500 per bag but we don’t know what the money is used for and explanation were not given.”

Our reporter leant that the same Director of Administration had prepared a Memo for the staff increment but the National Chairman John Oyegun rejected it based on allegation that the director selected his “girl friends and relatives as beneficiaries.

The source said Chief had insisted that if there would be salary increment, all the junior staff should be the beneficiaries and not some selected staff.
