ONDO Governorship: APC Appeal Panel 'NULLIFIES' Akeredolu's Victory, Recommend Rerun
News Proof 20.9.16 No comments Edit Post
The Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Appeal Committee has recommended the cancellation of the disputed shadow poll that threw up Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) as the governorship candidate.
The committee headed by Mrs. Hellen Bendega also recommended that a rerun primary should be held immediately to beat the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC).
The panel also suggested that the party’s national leadership should revert to the earlier delegates’ list, which was distributed to aspirants in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), shortly before the controversial primary.
According to the committee, a final and properly harmonised list acceptable to all contenders should be compiled, adding that the delegates’ list should be released, not on the eve of the primary, but much earlier to give sufficient time for the take-off of elections and avoid being used in favour of any aspirant.
The panel pointed out that although there was substantial compliance with rules during the primary, “that consideration may not be sufficient reason to ignore such serious and weighty, identified irregularities”.
“In view of the change mantra of this administration, it is pertinent that the party blazes the trail by refusing to condone a less than perfect exercise. We, therefore, formally submit our recommendations for the National Working Committee (NWC) to use its discretionary powers in line with the APC constitution and the Electoral Act to arrive at a final decision,” the committee said.
No fewer than 24 aspirants participated in the primary conducted at the Dome, Akure, the state capital on September 3. The exercise, which was widely condemned by party chieftains and observers, was supervised by Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru.
The committee received six petitions. The complaints came from three aspirants; Chief Olusola Oke, Dr. Olusegun Abraham and Prof. Ajayi Boroffice; the Chairman of Ondo Central APC, Mr. Adegboyega Adedipe, his Ondo East counterpart, Mr. Akintunde Temitope, and Mrs. Toyin Ajinde, a delegate.
Oke, a lawyer who called for the nullification of the primary, alleged that the confusion started before the shadow poll when he received two delegates’ lists, adding that non-delegates were hired and financially induced to vote.
Rejecting the results, Abraham called for a fresh poll, saying that 157 fake names were injected into the delegates’ list. He also alleged that some delegates voted twice because of lack of thumb printing ink after voting.
Boroffice said the primary was not credible because the delegates’ list was fraudulent, adding that the improper accreditation of delegates dented the process. He urged the committee to cancel the primary and order a fresh one.
In his petition titled: “A call for the nullification of the fraud-ridden primary,’ Temitope alleged that 64 fake delegates from his zone voted. He said accreditation and voting should have taken place at the same venue to prevent fraud.
Ajinde, the Ondo South Women Leader, said it was unimaginable that her name was omitted on the delegates’ list, adding that she was prevented from voting.
However, Akeredolu, who also appeared before the committee, said the delegates’ list was authentic. He also denied tampering with the accreditation, saying that he had no hand in the distribution of delegates tags.
The committee observed that the delegates’ list was a bone of contention, stressing that its content was disputed and its late distribution enraged many aspirants and party members.
On the late release of the list, the committee said: “The late distribution, the aspirant claimed, didn’t afford them sufficient time to lobby delegates. The situation was further compounded by the appearance of strange names of persons they couldn’t easily locate.”
Faulting the accreditation process, the panel said the confession of non-delegates on the television that they were hired from the streets to rig for a particular candidate cast doubt on the credibility of the process.
It added: “Equally disturbing is the public perception of the primary. there have been so many negative reports on this exercise all over the print, electronic and social media…A party founded on a platform of due process and which prides itself with zero tolerance for corruption and fraud, cannot be seen to condone illegality.”
Tension In Akeredolu's Camp As APC Appeal Panel Sets To Nullify Ondo Guber Primary Over Delegate Padding
News Proof 14.9.16 No comments Edit Post
Barring last minute change, the All progressives Congress, APC Appeal Panel is considering out-rightly cancellation the primary election of the party party's gubernatorial primary election in Ondo State over allegation of delegate list padding, News Punch has learnt
According to 247Ureport, the Appeal Committee of the party is at the top gear even as the panel is ready to annul the election, which was declared won by Rotimi Akeredolu.
The fear of the perceived cancellation has reportedly birthed tension in the camp of the former Nigeria Bar Association, NBA Chairman, Rotimi Akeredolu
Our source says the Appeal Committee sat all through the Sallah holiday considering allegations raised by three of the 24 APC aspirants.
A member of the appeal committee who pleaded no to be named confirmed that it has almost considered all the reports and would submit report this week, our source reported
It was, however, gathered that there were pressure from most stakeholders and party leaders across board to set aside the primary that produced Akeredolu as APC candidate.
The Appeal Panel Committee headed by Mrs. Helen Bendega, have received petitions from majority of the aspirants who contested the primary demanding the cancellation of the outcome of the exercise.
Among those who submitted their petitions to the panel alleging irregularities in the primaries are Chief Olusola Oke, Senator Ajayi Borofice and Segun Abraham.
Another aspirant who also submitted their petition to the APC Appeal panel Akinwale Akingbade, alleged in his petition that fake delegates list was used during the primaries among other irregularities. Akingbade, said that the names of the people on the delegate list were unknown to the party, whereas the real delegates were left out.
Fallout Of Ondo APC Guber Primary: APC Candidate Opts To Quit, In Talks With Other Parties
News Proof 13.9.16 No comments Edit Post
As aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Ondo State await the decision of the Appeal committee on the recent concluded primary election, there are indications that one of them, Chief Olusola Oke, is set to dump the party.
Sources within Oke’s camp disclosed that the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, who decamped to the APC after the Presidential election is already in talk with the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) and the Peoples Party of Nigeria, (PPN).
Oke, with another aspirant, Mr. Segun Abraham and the APC chairman in Ondo North East, Mr. Akintunde Temitope have petition the party’s appeal committee allegeding fraud in the primary which was won by Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
They particularly alleged that the delegates list used was padded, therefore, called for a fresh exercise. The sources said that Oke has made up his mind to dump the party and cross to any of these parties if the committee fails to call for a fresh election.
When contacted, his media aide, Rotimi Ogunleye said they are still waiting for the outcome of the committee before they make any decision. He, however, reiterated the commitment of Oke to the APC.
2019: Top APC, PDP Leaders In Secret Alliance To Form New Party; Holds Meeting Abroad
News Proof 13.9.16 No comments Edit Post
New Telegraph - Barring any unforeseen circumstances, a new political party that would challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would emerge in the first quarter of 2017. New Telegraph learnt from authoritative sources that the political party, which would be a third force, will be made up of aggrieved members of the ruling APC and the opposition PDP.
It was also learnt that though clandestine, talks on the emergence of the party are at advanced stage with leaders of the main two political parties involved. It was gathered that meetings on the new party have been held both in Nigeria and outside the country.
It was learnt that the emergence of the party became imminent following a research revealed by a United Kingdom-based professor that Nigerians are neither happy with the governance style of the APC nor the present state of the PDP.
Thus, concerned leaders of both parties, who are equally not satisfied with the goings on in the polity, are “talking to find a way out of the Muhammadu Buhari presidency.” A top APC leader from the South-South told New Telegraph over the weekend that talks were still ongoing. According to him, it is not certain that the APC or the PDP would go into the 2109 election as presently constituted. “Yes, there are talks about a new political party.
I would not be honest with you if I say I am not aware of it. People are talking across party lines. I am aware that there is an opinion poll showed me by a United Kingdombased Nigerian Professor (names withheld), which showed that Nigerians are not happy with the APC.
By the same token, they are not sure where the PDP would end with this crisis. The opinion poll is one of the many conducted recently, which showed that Nigerians are fast losing hope in the APC.
Nigerians are particularly irked by the non-inclusive nature of the party and the protracted crisis in the PDP. The opinion poll also showed that Nigerians would not be happy to see the PDP return to power under the same name. For many who have seen the report, it is a wake-up call,” he said.
It was gathered that even though some top politicians in the APC are still on the surface, showing solidarity with President Muhammadu Buhari, they are rankled by the strength of what they called the ‘cabal’ around the president’s cabinet. Thus, many top members of the party are dissatisfied with the vice grip of the group on the president.
The politician added: “You could see that their bent on holding the president is manifesting negatively for the party. All the promises made before the 2015 general elections are not kept. It is as bad as the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, asking us why we are using drop in oil prices as an excuse for the economic downturn.
Oil is only 15 per cent of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). So how can the failure of 15 per cent of our GDP drag us into recession? It is simply because those who are around the president have made it so hard for him to address the problems frontally. We are not happy with the development.”
Sources told our correspondents that at the head of discussions for the new party are a party leader from the South- West, another one from the North-East and others in the National Assembly who feel that the way things are running at the Assembly was not right.
The trio forms the core of the leadership even as members of the PDP who are not sure of the way the pendulum would swing in the battle against Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the party have joined the discussion.
Already, the PDP governors and the Ahmed Markarfi faction of the party have filed a suit at the Appeal Court to challenge the Justice Okon Abang’s ruling on the party, which recognised Sheriff as the National Chairman of the party.
A PDP governor from the South-South, told New Telegraph at the weekend that they were hopeful that the Appeal Court would give the matter an accelerated hearing from September 19. “Our only constraint now is the Sallah festivals coming up this week. We had hoped that from September 12, the Appeal Court would begin sitting. All the papers have been filed. We are only waiting for the break to pass. As from September 19, we will push for an accelerated hearing and throw Sheriff out.
We hope that the Judges of the Appeal Court would see reason with us on the decision of the National Convention that dethroned Sheriff and restored mandate to us. By that, we will be able to make progress in the party.”
While not unaware of the plot for a new party, he said that those looking for a new party were deluding themselves. He said that the Buhari presidency was too strong to be threatened by the formation of a new party. He said: “Make no mistake about it.
This is not a Jonathan presidency where all sorts of things happened. If you make the false move now and they know, all they need is to show you some papers and tell you what you had done in the past. That is trouble.
The cabal now is stronger than that of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua. Don’t be fooled that you can threaten them. Our safe passage is to go to Appeal Court and get judgement and start rebuilding our party.”
Indeed, another top politician from the South-West PDP told New Telegraph that talks are at advanced stage. He emphasised that the PDP, as at now, cannot convince Nigerians on returning in 2019, hence the need for another vehicle.
“You heard what former President Olusegun Obasanjo said last week about the state of PDP in opposition and APC in governance. Neither is strong to give Nigerians hope. There are ongoing talks now. By November, it would be clearer.
The truth is that talks are at advanced stage. They are being spearheaded by the people you know from both the APC and PDP. It is going to be a very strong party that will rival the big two. What is not clear is, for instance, if people would remain in the PDP after. But the way Sheriff is behaving shows he has a back up from the APC-led Federal Government.
So, we don’t know if PDP will survive it. There is need for a back up on our side.” It was learnt from multiple sources that many leaders in the APC are unhappy with Nigeria sliding into recession under their leadership. Multiple sources attributed the state of the economy to a lack of capacity of those saddled with the responsibility.
Like former President Goodluck Jonathan, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said his ambition is not worth the blood of anyone.
Obaseki said though he was disappointed with the postponement of the governorship election, he would rather drop his governorship ambition than to have hoodlums hijack the election and shed the blood of innocent citizens.
He explained that he had no option but to accept the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to shift the election from September 10 to September 28, 2016, based on security report by the police.
A statement by his media aide, Tunde Oladunjoye, quoted Obaseki as saying this in a chat with journalists in Lagos on Sunday. He said, “We were ready for the election, but when the police belatedly raised the issue of security, there was nothing we could do.
“I will rather not be a governor than to have the blood of many people shed by miscreants that were imported into Edo State to cause havoc.
“How many people have been tried or charged to court for the wanton killings and violence in Rivers State, let alone being convicted? How many people have been arrested for the blatant murder of the Port Harcourt lawyer?
“These imported hoodlums have nothing to lose, they are not from Edo, and would not think twice before killing our people the way they killed people in Rivers State.”
He, however, said he was optimistic that he would achieve victory come September 28, the new election date. “The APC will win the election convincingly any day or time.
The postponement was just a mere shift of the doomsday for the People’s Democratic Party and others,” Obaseki said. “The people of Edo State have made up their mind never to go back to the dark era. “They know me, they know the lineage of my family, they can trace me from four, five generations back; they know I don’t have a violent past; I have never been charged or tried for violent behavior.”
Edo Guber Election: Landlord Throws Out 5 Tenants Over Support For APC
News Proof 7.9.16 No comments Edit Post
In an act that could be described as extreme measure, a landlord sympathetic to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reportedly evicted 5 of his tenants who are supporter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC ahead of Edo State governorship election scheduled to hold this Saturday, News Punch has learnt
According to source, the landlord identified as David Agberemole has rendered at least 5 tenants in his house in Uzea Community in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State homeless for supporting the All Progressives Congress, APC against the People’s Democratic Party PDP.
The tenants, Mr Sylvester Chukwuemeka, Okosun Christiana and Ogbeide Elizabeth who lamented their ordeal said they have suffered untold hardship from their landlord for not supporting the PDP which the landlord was sympathetic to.
One of the tenants, Okosun Christiana who spoke in her native dialect (Esan) said, “We don’t have any problem, just party differences, he told us he wanted everyone in the house to support PDP, because he is a member of the party, but i refused.
“I told him that i have been in APC for a very long time that even if the PDP is buying me a car I prefer to remain in the APC, and he said since that is my stand; I should consider myself evicted from his house”. She explained.
Also speaking, another of the evicted tenants Sylvester Chukwuemeka revealed that his rents were up to date, adding that the action of their landlord negates the principle of fair play and justice just because they refused to support the PDP.
“I don’t understand why the landlord will just decide to drive us out of his house because we are not supporting PDP. I pay my rent regularly and this is not fair to me.
“The state government should come to our aid because I don’t know when it became a crime to support a party.”
Chukwuemeka called on relevant authority to come to their aid just as the Acting Executive Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Barr. Emmanuel Usoh has given the evicted tenants some bags of cement and money to build their own houses.
2019: A Battle Of Old Foes? IBB Campaign Posters Filter Online
News Proof 6.9.16 No comments Edit Post
Though the former military leader, Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida has said in different fora that he would not delve into any elective political position in Nigeria again due to his age, but his 2019 presidential posters have filtered on social media.
Some facebook users shared the poster with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party's logo and the inscription, 'CHANGE THE CHANGE'
In Nigeria, our leaders often say something in the morning and in evening say a contrary. This is a country where anything goes.
We would not be surprised if the aged Babangida, popularly known as IBB is being recalled from political retirement to vie for the Presidency.
Nigeria in deep economic mess, funny enough, some desperate political gladiator my call on the ex-military leader to face an old foe, the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari
Could this be a kind of PDP joker of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the 2019 Presidential election? Let keep our fingers crossed, time will definitely tell.

Finally, Buhari Agrees To Nigeria's RESTRUCTURING, Begins Process Already - FG Reveals
News Proof 6.9.16 No comments Edit Post
Contrary to public insinuation that President Muhammmadu Buhari is vehemently opposed to several calls by Nigerians to restructure the nation, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Monday said the All Progressives Congress government of President was not against restructuring and as a matter of fact has already begun restructuring of the nation
Speaking with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital according to Punch Newspaper, Ngige said the Buhari administration had already begun the restructuring process with the nation’s economy.
He said the impact might not be felt immediately but with time, Nigerians would all smile because of the ongoing restructuring by the APC administration.
He said, “Nigerians have positively changed their way of doing things for the better and have become more prudent and judicious in their spending pattern.”
The minister assured Nigerians that Buhari would look into the political restructuring of the country at the appropriate time.
“It’s one after the other. After economic restructuring to reposition the economy of this country, the Buhari administration will embark on the political restructuring and will set the modalities for the exercise,” he said.
Asked whether the restructuring would revisit the 2014 National Conference report, Ngige said, “When we get there, we shall address the issues.”
The minister called on various agitation groups in the country to sheathe their swords, noting that violence would not do anybody any good.
“Militancy and agitations are not the answer to resolving Nigeria’s myriads of problems, which the Buhari administration didn’t create in the first place.
“What is required is for all to support this administration to meet its set goals for the development and transformation of all sections of the country,” Ngige said.
